What is your favourite historical era?

I always get sketched out about answering this question, because so many people seem to think that if you're interested in a historical era, or like some aspects of it, it means you are Romanticizing It and glossing over the bad things. So, with the caveat that my interest in these eras does not mean I think everything that happened then was good...

It's a toss-up between the Weimar Republic era in Germany (particularly Weimar-era Berlin), and the post-WWII era in the United States c. 1946-about 1957 or so, particularly the Beat Generation and the adjacent arts/jazz/literary scenes.

9. favorite smell in the summer?

this is so funny bc rn, my dad is spraying the hose outside and the smell is so strong, haha. but, I think just how fresh the air smells and the water if you visit the ocean or a lake. winter lasts so long here that to just sit outside on a summer day and breathe in the scent is something I'm so grateful for.

73. favorite weird flavor combo?

Hmm, not sure if I have a current weird flavour combination, but when I was younger, I liked chocolate and carrot, and the flavours slapped.

Ooooh okay this is really difficult because I love far too many, but maybe Elizabethan era and queer France in the first half of the 20th century (France in general from about 1920s-50s lol). I kinda wanna get back into antiquity eras though. If fashion alone was considered, then I'd be listing way more again, bahaha :P

Right off the bat with the tough questions! Honestly, just even pretending to care about my interests is a great way to bond with me and get to know me lol IRL I am very obsessed with my horse... so if you also like horses you are instantly one of my best friends. I don't know I'm pretty easy, I've very extroverted.

73. favorite weird flavor combo?

I'm super picky so I'm not sure if there is anything I like the could be considered *weird* It sometimes freaks people out when I do the red wine / diet coke thing because I live in the US but I also know that's very normal in other places haha

88. your greatest wish?

If we're talking like actual serious wishes, not to be super heavy, but I wish we could either find a super easy cure for cancer, or that it could just, not exist at all. If we're talking light hearted omfg do I wish Pop could talk. I would absolutely love to know what he's thinking, and also that way I could make sure he know how much I love him.

Don’t quote me on this but I think it’s called iris atrophy? My old cat Anders had the same thing going on and I had asked doc about it and he said it was just pretty normal aging changes. Anders didn’t have any glaucoma or anything so there was no eye treatment needed. And he had such a laundry list of issues I didn’t ever bother to ask any other questions like “what is this called”

Modern au where Eddie has a decent following in social media and is known as both a guy who does ttrpg with a few friends and does cool metal covers of different song genres. He's weird, sure, and will also post two minute video monologues but it's done while camera is mildly unfocused on a worm on the wet pavement, or he'll rant about prog rock and then two minutes later go "I'm sorry my statements on Keith Emmerson were inappropriate and I guess" *pauses and looks off camera* "he totally deserves to be in the rock and roll Hall of Fame" like it's a hostage video and someone made him say it because he looks like he's having a terrible time about it.

Anyways he's an internet funny little man and one day he posts a tiktok or what have you labeled "tfw ur bf is sitting in his platonic soulmate's lap instead of yours" and it's just of Steve sitting sideways across Robin's lap on someone's couch chatting and smiling with her before turning to Eddie and giving a little finger wave.

This is of course met with internet hullabaloo because is that Steve Harrington and Robin Buckley? Famous indie music duo who are also starring in a popular new tv series? Social media weirdos? Beloved and popular and bizarre and memeable? Queer icons RobinandSteve? Was Eddie serious? He was dating thee Steve Harrington?

An hour later Robin tags Eddie in a post that is a video obviously taken from slightly under Steve as the angles are a bit weird, and Eddie can be heard saying "oh my god how could I have forgotten you're, like, really famous how'd I do that Steve! Babe, Stop laughing! It was supposed to be a silly relatable post! You're no better Buckley-hey why are you filming this? My mortification isn't funny!!" While the video is just shaking of Steve curling in on himself and Robin trying to focus on Eddie and you can hear them both cackling over Eddie talking. She captions it "tfw ur QPP's bf forgets you two are famous and that most ppl don't know they're dating. Or didn't, at least"

40 - weirdest thing to ever happen at your school?

This doesn't specify whether it means grade school or college. Also 'my school' implies just one, and I moved around/transferred schools a lot as a kid and as a 20-something. I'll go with college. This was back when I both studied and worked in the Fiction Writing Department at Columbia College Chicago. One morning, I was working in the office with my friend and coworker K., and Billy fucking Corgan walked in. Turned out he was pals with one of the professors, and she’d invited him to sit in on her class. He politely asked us to direct him to said class, and K., who was like, in love with Billy, briefly lost the power of speech. Though I am a long-time Pumpkins fan, I was not starstruck by Mr. Corgan’s presence, so I had to direct him to the class.

58 - four talents you're proud of having?

I make really good mix tapes/playlists. I can cook well—I'm no professional chef, but for a home cook, I think I'm pretty damn good. I make great zines. And I can play a lot of instruments—some very well, some just okay, some poorly. But still.

as of now, I think shows because it gives more time to flesh out the plot and build a slow burn. but, realistically, I watch more films than shows because I'm terrible at keeping up w shows LOL

Fiona and Cake spoilers seriously

(Something I noticed abt Betty and Simons relationship)

I love Betty and Simon’s relationship, I think their back story is so cute and romantic and all that lovely stuff don’t get me wrong.

But there’s this under tone of Betty constantly giving things up for Simon and we don’t really talk about it a lot???

Like, Betty let Simon have his moment with the artifact and the pubic, she also doesn’t go to her trip in favor of going on an expedition with Simon. Then when she goes to leave again she stays for Simon.

Even Fiona is like “you went with her on the bus?” And Simon just looks all confused like “what? No, why would I do that?” Like- hello???

Then after that she gave up her entire life and mind to get Simon back to the point where she literally says “I don’t know who I am without him anymore.” And that just sucks! Since the beginning Betty has been the one giving up the most, her mind, her own possible career, and it’s a story of love of course and it’s very sweet but it’s also a story of sacrifice.

Their love wasn’t a perfect solution, it was already sort of imbalanced when it started and I lowkey love how we see those cracks even before they’re together.

Again, I love their relationship and I think it’s sweet. I just think we should talk about Betty’s side more, especially when she tells a story of what most women do in relationships, sacrifice.

The art direction is in part ableist.

You can enjoy the movie and still say that.

Note: it's ableist because it's using common animation and color choices KNOWN to cause seizures (and death) in audiences. This includes people who don't have epilepsy.

I will never not be bitter about this because the first movie message was about "anyone can wear the mask" when it clearly was excluding people by simply making it impossible to watch this film in a safe manner.

If you got a headache after watching that film. That's a photosensitive reaction and it means you're not immune to these effects. A movie you love should not give you a headache or dizziness or disorientation. It should not give an above average amount of people seizures.

And those effects causing these symptoms should not be hailed as the reason the film is good.

Spiderverse utilises other aspects of comic art to already stick out.

Rapid Glitch effects, large bright high contrast red and blue areas covering the screen, prolonged moving patterns, and flashing lights are not what make this film look good.

You're in this room with these heroes and I don't know anything about you but still I never imagined someone like you could look so small. I don't know what they plan to do with you. I don't know what to do either. I used to think you should leave us alone, locked up and shut away. But the way my son looks at you, the way he hangs onto the hope for your future, the way he looks even more changed after coming out of that final battle, I wonder if he wants there to be another way.
