writing every day in march // day three
today definitely felt like the first day of spring!
i find it really hard to accept that first drafts suck, and that it’s okay to start drafting to explore ideas without having 100% of the plot outlined yet
spending this afternoon/evening doing a first draft for one WIP, and just taking notes and brainstorming for another. i’m definitely gaining a better understanding of them both and why i’m writing them, which is great :)

More about the pretty consistent body pain thing that's happening, I'm not sure if something is actually wrong with me or if its just the affect of overworking myself for liiiiikkkke 6 years??? ( arguably also overworking nyself before that now that u thjnk about it but moreso te past 6 years )
yeahhh and then also before that I'd did marching band and like- did it knowing I didn't have great knees :/ hmm just thinking thoughts
Sorry for the rambles I just like to think aloud and it helps doing it somewhere public :/

writing habits tag
Tagged by @space-writes!
RULES: Bold or color the things that you relate to and then tag some people to play.
I write: daily | most days | a few times a week | a few times a month | random
I write most often: when I first get up | later in the morning | afternoon | evening | the wee hours of the night | whenever
In one sitting, I tend to write: a few sentences at a time | a few hundred words | a few thousand words | a complete chapter/ section no matter how long | an outline | whatever comes
I tend to write scenes: in chronological order with no skipping | mostly in order but with some filler/skipping | whatever scene I feel like | who knows what’s gonna come out
The things that comes easiest to me are: dialogue | description of senses | description of action | description of characters | exposition | other
I tend to write: on a phone | on a laptop | in a notebook | on whatever paper I can find | with speech to text | in the blood of my enemies | it doesn’t really matter to me | on paper first and then typed up | old school typewriter | on a computer
When I take a break from writing, it usually lasts: a few days | a few weeks | a few months | it’s kind of random
My favorite thing to do when I’m on a writing break is: recharge with other creative hobbies | read/consume other media | do something physical | catch up with old friends | work on my WIP in other ways like with playlists or art | other
In general, I think my writing habits are: pretty much what I need them to be | okay, but I’m working on making them better | non-existent | not great | i’m excited to develop them further | totally random | perfect for me
Gently tagging @e-klair, @cream-and-tea, @scroll-of-aves and @squarebracket-trick for this!

writing every day in march // days eight & nine
still writing my short story, very slowly. it’s nearly done (yes, I’ve said this for a week now)
I think I need a break from it and to work on something else. I want to write something under 1500-2000 words because everything I’ve written lately is 3-5000 and variety is good!
I feel pretty sad about being such a slow writer. It makes me wonder if I’ll ever get anywhere with my work.

I spent the last two days doing a jigsaw puzzle. A liberating activity for a depressed brain that feels like it's been pressure-cooking for several months now. One piece after another disappears into the whole. The darks get separated from the whites. The standard pieces from the abnormal ones. It should come as no surprise that I relate to those latter.
My therapist has been trying to convince me that I can have days like this. Even the governmental organ that provides me with the financial and health benefits that are perhaps the only reason I'm still alive has told me not to feel pressured. That I can take time to heal. I wonder if it's days like these that count.
I have loved puzzles my whole life. I love them in all shapes and sizes. Word puzzles, number puzzles, logic puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, ... I like to use my brain, solve a problem, figure things out. This one ended with two pieces left over that didn't fit the two that were still missing in the picture. There were false fits. Another excellent metaphor for my own experience in this world.
My mum and I hunted them down and completed the puzzle. Then, after taking a picture and admiring my work for a while, I broke up the puzzle and put the pieces back in their box. It's an old favourite and I have made it many times. I will make it again. The joy is not in the end product, but in the journey.
