Today is Zero Discrimination Day. As part of writing Llyfr Enfys I've begun to name oppressions which don't yet have words in Welsh, such as exorsexism, aphobia, arophobia etc. It is my hope that Llyfr Enfys can help the fight against queerphobia.

People living with HIV have the right to...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Everybody has the right to work, marry and have children, travel, to have shelter, to live in safety and in health” says Dr Hussein A. Gezairy, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean. “Sadly, for people living with HIV this is often not the case. Too often they find themselves denied their rights and marginalized. The truth is that many of our societies have failed to address such breaches of the rights of people living with HIV. Every day we hear stories from around the world where HIV infection is the only reason given for denying them their rights.”
Another basic human right is the right to treatment. This means comprehensive treatment, care and support, including access to antiretroviral therapy and other medicines, diagnostics and treatment for related opportunistic infections, the availability of good nutrition, and the provision of social, moral and psychological support. As stated in Article 25(1) of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights: “everyone has the right to a standard of living adequate for the health and well-being of himself, and of his family, including food, clothing, housing and medical care and necessary social services.”
Like all human beings, people living with HIVhave the right to marry and have children. They should have access to counselling, to know that there are medicines that women living with HIV can take during pregnancy to prevent their children from contracting the infection. Health and legal systems must recognize the right of people living with HIV to have children, as stated in Article 16(1) of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights: “everyone has the right to marry and found a family.”

"Gege is ruining his own series" in jjk zero manga, Gojo made fun of Miguel's accent. IN THE MANGA. I've been reading JJK since I was in my gap period before uni and I clocked Gojo's racism years ago which made me iffy about him. Gege is not ruining shit, Gojo has always been throwing microaggressive comments at Miguel from DAY ONE. Are you people fucking slow or stupid? "Why is he making a dead man racist" as if dead people could not be possibly racist while they were alive. "He could have used Getou" why?? Why should he have used Getou to do anything when Getou NEVER discriminated against Miguel and respected him as a sorcerer without ever mentioning anything about his skin colour??
Just admit it. You people cannot handle Gojo's recent attitude because it will make you uncomfortable about your own racism. Coupled with everything that has happened in this fandom this year, you people need to hold a mirror to your fucking selves and check yourself. Gege Akutami did nothing wrong in writing Gojo being micro aggressive because it's not strange for ultra successful people to be microaggressive. You people just don't want to do the work and think. "Oh I'm scared of reblogging Gojo fics" I don't fucking care. Check your racism.

Determined to use her skills to fight inequality, South African computer scientist Raesetje Sefala set to work to build algorithms flagging poverty hotspots - developing datasets she hopes will help target aid, new housing, or clinics.
From crop analysis to medical diagnostics, artificial intelligence (AI) is already used in essential tasks worldwide, but Sefala and a growing number of fellow African developers are pioneering it to tackle their continent's particular challenges.
Local knowledge is vital for designing AI-driven solutions that work, Sefala said.
"If you don't have people with diverse experiences doing the research, it's easy to interpret the data in ways that will marginalise others," the 26-year old said from her home in Johannesburg.
Africa is the world's youngest and fastest-growing continent, and tech experts say young, home-grown AI developers have a vital role to play in designing applications to address local problems.
"For Africa to get out of poverty, it will take innovation and this can be revolutionary, because it's Africans doing things for Africa on their own," said Cina Lawson, Togo's minister of digital economy and transformation.
"We need to use cutting-edge solutions to our problems, because you don't solve problems in 2022 using methods of 20 years ago," Lawson told the Thomson Reuters Foundation in a video interview from the West African country.
Digital rights groups warn about AI's use in surveillance and the risk of discrimination, but Sefala said it can also be used to "serve the people behind the data points". ...
'Delivering Health'
As COVID-19 spread around the world in early 2020, government officials in Togo realized urgent action was needed to support informal workers who account for about 80% of the country's workforce, Lawson said.
"If you decide that everybody stays home, it means that this particular person isn't going to eat that day, it's as simple as that," she said.
In 10 days, the government built a mobile payment platform - called Novissi - to distribute cash to the vulnerable.
The government paired up with Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) think tank and the University of California, Berkeley, to build a poverty map of Togo using satellite imagery.
Using algorithms with the support of GiveDirectly, a nonprofit that uses AI to distribute cash transfers, the recipients earning less than $1.25 per day and living in the poorest districts were identified for a direct cash transfer.
"We texted them saying if you need financial help, please register," Lawson said, adding that beneficiaries' consent and data privacy had been prioritized.
The entire program reached 920,000 beneficiaries in need.
"Machine learning has the advantage of reaching so many people in a very short time and delivering help when people need it most," said Caroline Teti, a Kenya-based GiveDirectly director.
'Zero Representation'
Aiming to boost discussion about AI in Africa, computer scientists Benjamin Rosman and Ulrich Paquet co-founded the Deep Learning Indaba - a week-long gathering that started in South Africa - together with other colleagues in 2017.
"You used to get to the top AI conferences and there was zero representation from Africa, both in terms of papers and people, so we're all about finding cost effective ways to build a community," Paquet said in a video call.
In 2019, 27 smaller Indabas - called IndabaX - were rolled out across the continent, with some events hosting as many as 300 participants.
One of these offshoots was IndabaX Uganda, where founder Bruno Ssekiwere said participants shared information on using AI for social issues such as improving agriculture and treating malaria.
Another outcome from the South African Indaba was Masakhane - an organization that uses open-source, machine learning to translate African languages not typically found in online programs such as Google Translate.
On their site, the founders speak about the South African philosophy of "Ubuntu" - a term generally meaning "humanity" - as part of their organization's values.
"This philosophy calls for collaboration and participation and community," reads their site, a philosophy that Ssekiwere, Paquet, and Rosman said has now become the driving value for AI research in Africa.
Inclusion
Now that Sefala has built a dataset of South Africa's suburbs and townships, she plans to collaborate with domain experts and communities to refine it, deepen inequality research and improve the algorithms.
"Making datasets easily available opens the door for new mechanisms and techniques for policy-making around desegregation, housing, and access to economic opportunity," she said.
African AI leaders say building more complete datasets will also help tackle biases baked into algorithms.
"Imagine rolling out Novissi in Benin, Burkina Faso, Ghana, Ivory Coast ... then the algorithm will be trained with understanding poverty in West Africa," Lawson said.
"If there are ever ways to fight bias in tech, it's by increasing diverse datasets ... we need to contribute more," she said.
But contributing more will require increased funding for African projects and wider access to computer science education and technology in general, Sefala said.
Despite such obstacles, Lawson said "technology will be Africa's savior".
"Let's use what is cutting edge and apply it straight away or as a continent we will never get out of poverty," she said. "It's really as simple as that."

Off My Chest
Rant about Hybe under the cut. I give you my word I will try to post a majority of positive content, because the world (and my mental health) doesn't need more negativity, but sometimes you just gotta vent.
Folks, if you've known me for a hot second, you've realized I am a Jimin-biased Jikooker... but I am OT7, and I sincerely love and support BTS.
I believe Jimin is a grown man who can advocate for himself and I believe Jungkook absolutely supports and adores him, whatever their relationship status is.
I always try to accentuate the positive and avoid online drama and negativity as much as possible, but I need to get this off my chest.
I will never be gas-lit into believing that the way Jimin was treated in solo era was fair, or equitable, or even made any kind of business-sense. I've genuinely tried to entertain other people's points of view and listen to people who claim to have industry expertise, but...
I will never forget his mail being tampered with four times, his leaked insurance information, denial of more music videos, overlapped solo release, only 9 days of promotion, split title tracks, no radio or play-listing, no bio for his Spotify for months, no restock of his single CD for months, hundreds of thousands of frozen and deleted sales, millions of culled streams, shady articles in WeVerse and Billboard, insulting dialogue in In the Seom, failure to submit to RIAA certification for months, only a paywall documentary on WeVerse, zero official acknowledgement of his Hot 100 #1, 1 billion streams on Spotify, or wins for The Fact, MAMA, and two Webbys, plus broken in-ears, anemic little balloons and a sad background tarp as decorations for his fan events… and the company telling him how doing more would just be impossible.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I compare all that to the push that other members and other groups got, and I know it just isn't true. It wasn't impossible.
Hell, Jeon Jungkook put in more effort to promote Jimin’s work and showed more respect for Jimin as an artist during his at-home lives than that whole company did, which honestly makes no sense from a profit standpoint.
I will never forget it, and I will not entertain arguments that say I’m a solo or an anti or jealous about it. I have eyes.
I am not out to shade any other members nor put forth any conspiracy theories. I simply want all our boys to get everything they justly deserve.
And yes, other members have suffered mishaps and neglect, but nothing of this scale, this consistently. It baffles me, I cannot understand it, and I'm done trying. Something strange was going on behind the scenes and we may never be privy to the details.
In trying to put this awful feeling behind me, I will say I am elated that Jikook are serving together and can support each other. I am glad there will be a Jikook travel show. I'm continually impressed with all of Jimin's success (in the military and professionally) despite all odds. I will always love and support all of BTS with my full heart.
And I sincerely hope the company has been taking notes and course-corrects for PJM2, even if it rubs some higher ups the wrong way if they had a different vision. Considering Jimin’s unique talents and his amazing star power—even his ability to bring Paris and New York to a screaming standstill just for the opportunity to see him exit a car—I would hope the company will “do their best to promote all labels and artists without discrimination” going forward.
But what happened truly sucked, and I needed to get that off my chest. I am not interested in further discussion or debate. I am now going to do my best to shift my focus and energy on to the things I want to manifest, instead of the things that enrage me.
So let me end on a positive and hopeful note: I put all my trust in Jimin, who signed a new contract with Hybe and who unfailingly adores all his members. There can be no love without trust. I will always do my best to trust BTS.
Tumblr media
But I'm watching carefully. For Jimin and all our boys.
Love, Roo

What makes Lelouch’s character so intriguing and so distinct from other genius protags is how he compartmentalizes his facades so perfectly that it has become his fatal flaw, and how it ends up driving the story.
Lelouch is a prince, a big brother, an ordinary student, Zero - he lives different lives that are equally important to him. And in his mind, he separates them so well he foolishly thought they could never overlap.
So when Shirley’s father died because of Zero, Lelouch was just in shock. He struggled to reconcile the two worlds in him. He never imagined it.
And he continued to not learn from it. Suzaku was unique in that he knows all of Lelouch’s facades sans Zero. Suzaku belonged in a unique position in Lelouch’s mind that someone as smart as him didn’t figure out Suzaku was at least related to the Lancelot. This is telling because even Suzaku have always had an inkling Lelouch was Zero. Lelouch didn’t ignore the signs; he was simply so blind to it because of how he divided his facades are.
And this part of Lelouch wasn’t something he chose to be. He didn’t wake up one day deciding to cut up himself in separate identities because it suited him. It was the consequence of his trauma being rejected brutally by a parental figure. This was his shield from a world full of discrimination and violence. Lelouch feared being rejected again, which is why he was always at peace around Suzaku, who knew him as a whole person, yet chooses to protect him. Suzaku rejecting Lelouch at the end of season 1 brought out wild anger and hurt and vulnerability; Suzaku, who was supposed to be the one person who would always be his ally and never hurt him - because both of them have shared their pains and joys honestly when they were children.
Genius protags aren’t supposed to be like robots. They are as human as anyone else.

As Elon Musk whines about imaginary reverse discrimination against white men and “unqualified” women + non-white people being hired into jobs that they are neither deserving of nor qualified for (according to Apartheid Clyde, the privileged nepo baby born into wealth), please keep in mind that the pilot who landed Alaska Airline flight 1282 is a woman.
Tumblr media
In a transcript of the conversation between the pilot — who so far remains anonymous — and the control tower, we get a glimpse into how she managed to rest cool, calm and very collected.
During the incident the cabin had become depressurized when a part of its structure blew out. As a result passengers’ phones were sucked out of the plane, and a teenager’s shirt was torn off his back.
While the passengers were left in a terrifying position, no doubt fearing the worst, the plane’s pilot kept things calm.
Grace under pressure
In the transcript published by IAM14 that you can listen to here, the pilot displays zero panic. In fact, she needed to be asked if she were declaring an emergency!
Here’s a snippet:
Air traffic controller: “1282 foreign approach. Good afternoon. You still have information zero?”
Alaska Airlines pilot: “Yeah, we do have information zero, we’d like to get lower, if possible.”
Air traffic controller: “Possibility 1282 descend and maintain 7,000.”
Air traffic controller: “Alaska 1282 did you declare an emergency or did you need to return to …”
Alaska Airlines pilot: “Yes, we are in an emergency, we are depressurized, we do need to return back to, we have 177 passengers. Fuel is 18-eight.”
When she states: “We’d like to get lower, if possible,” most people would have had a slightly different reaction. It would have been understandable to hear something along the lines of: “Help, we’re in big trouble!” (source)
And remember: there are also Black pilots who do the job every single day, not to mention the intersection of other marginalized groups who are also right there doing the damn thing.
