Here's a challenge. Stop for a moment, don't say a word, don't make any noise. And now listen. What do you hear? Isn't it noisy all around? The cars driving on the streets, your neighbors fixing their furniture, somebody's walking in the staircase. A motorbike, far away. If you listen closely, you'll realize that there's so much noise surrounding us, noise that we make. Natural sounds have been replaced by human created noises, a bird's song by a car engine, the sound of the wind, by a crackling motorbike. Can you name a place without any human created noises? I personally can't, at least not close by. I've been trying to find such a place for a while now. The mountains will always be a shelter from the loudness. And so is Norway. Natural sound is luxurious. It's something we don't get easily. You have to walk far to reach it. #nature #norway #geoleserfoto #northernorway #lyngenalps #snow #arctic #naturelover #outdoors #adventure #findingbalance #sunrise #mountains #mountain #love (at Lyngen Alps) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co5M2mvMQMZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

My date with a blue whale. Valentine's Day 2015. 8 years ago today. Some encounters will always make my heart beat faster. One of those moments that gave me a new perspective, that made me realize how small I am. Some might say, jumping alone into the ocean to swim with a blue whale is reckless and dangerous, and indeed, there's risk. I don't deny it. But if the reward is so incredible, who wouldn't dare to take the risk, to venture into the unknown and come back with experiences, so special. #bluewhale #srilanka #ocean #whale #diving #diver #adventures #adventure #travel #asia #explorer #island #sea #beautiful #love (at Sri Lanka) https://www.instagram.com/p/CopsE2OsJMX/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Why visit Svalbard in winter? When you could go to a tropical beach or all inclusive ski resort for like half the price? I received this particular question pretty often. What if I told you, Svalbard in winter is a place of pure exploration. Where the chaos of the arctic storms meets the calmness of the polar nights, while the bright colors of the auroras dance in the skies above. What if I told you, Svalbard in winter is a place of contrasts. Where the cold of the north meets the warmth of people welcoming you. What if I told you, Svalbard in winter is an experience, so extraordinary, it can't be compared to anything you've ever seen before. Where the soft blanket of fresh snow meets the rocky and harsh mountains around. Would you still ask me, why I decided to go there? Or would you reconsider going to a warm place yet again? Thanks so much for being my photo model @felix_irving 😸🙌 #svalbard #longyearbyen #spitzbergen #norway #northernnorway #polarnight #norwaytravel #travel #arctic #northernlights #adventure #love (at Svalbard and Jan Mayen) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnfDgLXMaqF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

An interesting fact about Svalbard is, that the polar bear populations is larger than the number of human inhabitants. While around 3000 polar bears roam the archipelago, only 2500 people call Svalbard their home. We decide to venture out another time. Soon after the city lights vanished in the distance, the northern lights started to dance in the skies above. #svalbard #norway #longyearbyen #arctic #northpole #northernlights #spitzbergen #hike #aurora #snow #winter #arcticcircle #scandinavia #nature #mountains #explorer #love (at Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Spitzbergen, Norway) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cmw8X98s6rx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Adventurous days in Longyearbyen. As soon as you reach the city limits, warning signs indicate the possible presence of polar bears. The immense amount of snow makes the area appear so calm, but the Arctic is a harsh environment. Proper gear and experience is crucial if you decide to venture out and explore more of it. Any additional risks need to be avoided if possible, decisions have to be made in a very conservative way. We tried to hike to an abandoned coal mine, following no trails, straight uphill, but lost our way multiple times, despite having the tracks on the satellite phone. We decided to turn back. It snowed all day, at night it started to get stormy. Even though I can't tell there's any difference between morning and evening, it looks exactly the same. Time is a construct up here. #svalbard #norway #longyearbyen #arctic #northpole #norwaytravel #spitzbergen #hike #snow #winter #arcticcircle #scandinavia #nature #mountains #explorer #love (at Longyearbyen, Svalbard, Spitzbergen, Norway) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmukIVXMOps/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Leaving Tromsø on the way to Svalbard, the Arctic archipelago between mainland Norway and the North Pole. Above the Arctic circle, the sun doesn't rise at all in winter. While Tromsø does get a bit of daylight at noon, the polar night dominantes Svalbard, with not a single ray of sun, not even twilight, all day. Time feels like it's nonexistent up here. It could be 10am, 12pm, 10pm, it all looks the same. While we look out of the plane window, we appreciate the small stretch of daylight in the distant horizon while headings towards the Arctic North. #svalbard #norway #tromsø #arctic #northpole #norwaytravel #spitzbergen #planewindow #snow #winter #arcticcircle #scandinavia #nature #mountains #explorer #love (at Tromsø, Norway) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmtVsgesnya/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

An unique opportunity to see what an African mine looks from the inside. After returning from an expedition in the mountains of Uganda, a local showed me around the large, abandoned mine. The plant covered a huge area right at the entrance of the national park. The mine looked rough, not maintained, polluted. It was abandoned, yet that fact didn't appear to have a big impact on the general condition of the place. All workers in mines like that need our utmost attention. They require fair and safe working conditions. Along with strong laws to protect the surrounding landscapes. Africa is a continent which offers a lot of biodiversity, unspoiled places and amazing nature, in addition to wonderful people. Those places need to stay the way they are, untouched and beautiful. I've wrote a new blog post about the unique visit in the mine and my experiences in the area. 👉 Link in Bio. #uganda #africa #coppermine #mine #congo #environment #mining #exploring #travelwriter #travelblog #adventure #love (at Uganda, Africa) https://www.instagram.com/p/ClRhD-MMBWx/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Inside an African Copper Mine
Entering an abandoned copper mine in an area which was struck by flooding some years ago.
Kilembe main road Copper mine Area around the mine Time to read: 15min. I had just returned from a long and exhausting high altitude expedition in the Rwenzori mountains, climbing three 5000m peaks in Uganda and DR Congo. Well, returned is the wrong word. I had basically just gotten back to the pick up point after a full day of hiking from the upper camp. It was late afternoon already when I…

Did you know that school costs on average only 10 cents per year and child in Uganda? Most people can't afford it though. Imagine, how much only 1usd could improve those childrens education. In June, I had the opportunity to visit Kasese, a town in the far west of Uganda. The place left an imprint. People selling charcoal right in front of dusty shacks they live in, street children asking for food, up to 20 people living in a single, tiny room. Yet, everyone was so friendly, warm and welcoming. Africa is an one of a kind type of place, amazing, beautiful, safe and unspoiled. I love sharing my passion for that continent and experiences with others but I won't let its troubles unmentioned. Yet, if you ever think about travelling to Africa, I advice you to go. You'll be amazed. I wrote a blogpost about my impressions of Kasese, its street children and charcoal sellers. The Children Of Kasese
Meeting the local kids. Charcoal sellers, beggars, and a 10 cent school tuition per year and child, which most people can’t afford.
The main road of Kasese Town Charcoal sellers Kaseses street children Time to read: 12min. How did I even get here? Thousands of miles away from what we westerners call the modern world, many kilometers from the closest pathed road. Red dirt covered the busy streets outside of my hotel. The cars and motorbikes which passed by with merely seconds separating them, kept continuously whirl up the…
