I keep having this nagging feeling that I haven’t included all the asian characters in my rick riordan asian representation crit post. If there are more characters I missed someone please tell me I don’t wanna leave anyone out

People really need to realise that “media can affect real life” doesn’t mean “this character does bad things so people will read that and start doing bad things” and actually means “ideas in fiction especially stereotypes about minority groups can affect how the reader views those groups, an authors implicit prejudices can be passed on to readers”

you are trans enough. your transness doesn’t depend on how well you pass, or how far through your transition you are, or how much dysphoria you have. Your transness is defined by you and only you. don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
happy trans day of visibility! x

stop being annoyed with poc, or Muslims, or members of the lgbtq+ community when they criticise your favourite author for whitewashing characters, or for being racist, or Islamophobic, or homophobic, or for treating their characters of colour badly, or pushing them into stereotypes. if you don’t see racism in the work, read about it, and learn from people who actually can recognise it and deal with it in their lives. I think it’s probably a whole lot more annoying to never feel accurately and well represented in books.

the idea that we should praise authors for having better representation than other authors (who have terrible/no representation) even though theirs is not good comes from the idea that good, accurate representation isn’t something that’s expected. and it should be. It should be the bare fucking minimum. but instead we are told to be grateful for the little that we’ve got.

normalize not writing everyday.
normalize losing motivation.
normalize smaller blogs.
normalize less notes and reblogs.
normalize lack of inspiration.
it’s okay if you don’t write, post or publish everyday. it’s okay if you don’t feel like finishing that work in progress. it’s okay if you can’t mentally or physically come up with something. it’s okay if you don’t have this many followers, notes, or reblogs. any of this does not define your worth. your value. your talent.
golden rule, support and love others as you’d want to be. don’t be afraid to reach out and self-promoted. it’s okay. it really is.
writing, editing, or creating in general is a hobby for most, maybe a future career. but regardless, it should be enjoyable. make it enjoyable for yourself. you have that ability to.

No it’s the fact that miss Drusilla Blackthorn will be one of the most iconic protagonists yet and no ones talking about it

okay so for some reason the additions in my reblog of my rick riordan asian representation crit post isn’t showing in the notes for me and idk if people can see it so i’m gonna make a separate post for it
so part 2 of rick riordan’s not very good asian representation! (aka the characters i forgot about because i’m an idiot)
ethan nakamura the antagonist who also died
why is this problematic? he’s an antagonist. who also died.
frank zhang(oh boy get ready)
why is this problematic? okay, so frank zhang is the only asian kid in the seven, and he’s also the only kid in the seven who doesn’t have ADHD and isn’t dyslexic. honestly, I don’t know if this was intentional on rick’s part or not, but it is kind of fishy to see that the only asian kid in the seven was the one who didn’t have learning disabilities. honestly, why rick? why frank out of all of them? asian kids can have learning disabilities too, you know! did you also know that there’s a huge stigma that comes with learning disabilities in the asian community? consider this article, written by a chinese high school student with ADHD and ADD:
read this snippet:
As a Chinese student diagnosed with ADHD and ADD, it is extremely hard to cope with the fact you have a learning disorder. Some people in my Asian community did not acknowledge my learning disabilities, as traditional Chinese people look down upon learning disabilities.
ADHD, ADD, and other learning disabilities are considered shameful in the Chinese community. People who dismissed my ADHD and ADD just assumed I was “not smart,” and that was a “fault” of my parents. For many, there is no such thing as ADHD and ADD — they believe this is just a cover-up for laziness.
yeah. lots of people in the asian community do not take learning disabilities seriously. frank zhang is just reinforcing the stereotype that asian kids can’t have learning disabilities. whether rick did it inadvertently or not, it’s still reinforcing that stereotype and it angers me.
also the way he was described? phrases like “baby sumo wrestler?” it’s so infantilizing and so unnecessary!
honestly there’s probably more so if anyone has something to add on go right ahead, but again, non-asians don’t clown please

Ok I just had a major epiphany regarding Ty. Side note this is why you should listen to autistic scholars and researchers!!!
So I was reading something and I came across a statement that was like "It isn't entirely impossible for autistics to empathize. We can focus on the emotions and needs if others. But the problem is allistic people can focus on other people's emotions and their own at the same time. Allowing them to think about how they're feeling and what they're thinking as well as focusing on what the other person is feeling. Autistic people can't do that. We can only focus on ourselves and our emotions, or the other person. But not both at the same time."
This makes literally perfect fucking sense in regards to Ty and his feelings for Kit. Because he can focus on Kit's pain and his feelings, but then he can't focus on his own. So then how is he supposed to figure out if he has feelings for Kit if he's focusing on what Kit is feeling and might be going through. If he worries about Kit then how is he supposed to self reflect? He basically can't.
I struggle with this myself all the time. If I'm helping someone with their problems it's hard to take care of them and think about my feelings on the situation. Like someone will ask me what I think and I'll completely freeze up because I wasnt in thinking and reflecting mode, I was in helping mode! So basically what I have learned to do is toggle back and forth. It's super difficult to do and sometimes I'm bad at it.
I think grief shifted him permanently into his feeling his feeling and thinking about his stuff mode. You could argue that he was focusing on Livvy but he really wasn't. It was about him. But it was all screwed up and not at all proper reflection because he was grieving.
Ty needs to like genuinely hone in on his emotions and do some genuine self reflection for a moment and really think about what he actually wants. Self reflection is not something I'm really great at personally. I don't know if it's an autistic trait or not. But I think Ty is scared of actually acknowledging and shifting through his emotions unless he can just come up with a "quick fix" solution like bring Livvy back.
And when he and Kit reunite again he's probably gonna be shifted back into worrying about other people mode because Kit will most likely be in trouble knowing Kit. So Ty needs someone to literally shake him and force him to actually take a moment to process what he's feeling.
That probably didn't make any sense but whatever.
