Ok originally I was just going to commend this in the tags but it got way too long and like. This is SUCH incredible analysis. I read it the whole way through and it's just. Like this is Everything I Always Thought About Ford But Could Not Put Words To. It's so spot-on; just the way he handles relationships and the consistent traumatic experiences and the very real literal abuse he went through at the hands of Bill Cipher. Fully-fledged diagnosable disorder or not, he 1000% has some identity issues from all the everything he went through.

Some of this stuff I didn't even CATCH. Like the significance of the shapeshifter's line and the outfit parellels??? Never would've noticed those things on my own. And I love the comparison of Dipper's vs Ford's experiences with possession, too. And the whole thing about the journals themselves and what they symbolize and the decision to throw them away. MAN. I just. Man. This is such a cool analysis.

so, first off, I want to apologize for putting this off for so long. I think it's been a couple of weeks at this point but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway, after getting this ask I immediately got really really excited and started outlining what I quickly realized was going to be a monster of an analysis post.

So much so, in fact, that I ended up having to move it all into a google doc. whoops.

As it turns out, this ask ended up being the thing to motivate me to go over a lot of other related thoughts about GF’s writing that I’d had stewing in my brain for ages, so you're getting an essay that you probably didn't sign up for. Again: my bad. I hold the champion's title for being the most long-winded autistic bitch to ever live.

Either way, as you might have guessed, I would love to elaborate on Ford Pines' hypothetical OSDD.

I know I sound like a giga-nerd right now but does anyone else get annoyed when people think Phoenix would be angry at Klavier after his disbarment?

Like, Phoenix has been an infinitely loyal person throughout the series, so much so that it’s as much of a flaw as it is a virtue. He has actively put his life in danger several times just because he trusts the people he cares about, only for it to blow up in his face (I.E. him swallowing the locket for Dahlia). So, I feel like him of all people would understand Klavier for getting him disbarred after he heard from his brother (who he very clearly looks up to) that he was going to knowingly present forged evidence, yk?

There could be a Gravity Falls fic themed after that one nursery rhyme song with the fish. Like there's so much potential there. Y'know which one I mean the One two three four five Once I caught a fish alive Six seven eight nine ten Then I let it go again Why did you let it go? Because it bit my finger so Which finger did it bite? This little finger on the right Like see what I'm saying??? The fish alive verse would so be like, something Bill would reference at Stan bc he's the fish in the zodiac, without at all acknowledging the rest of the song, which kind of reflects the shortsightedness leading to his downfall. And kinda the way he views Stan, too, actually. And potentially making Ford's postaxial polydactyly reference the final lines? Like hello? Because it doesn't specifically name-drop the pinky finger. It's so weirdly fitting, but I have no idea what the plot would be. There's something to be extrapolated here but I don't know what.

Like I'm no huge shipper and I still don't feel the overwhelming need to ship them and I don't think they're like starcrossed lovers or anything. But the password. To the laptop. Was Stanford. Like he's so freaking interesting! There are so many facets to his character, he's so much fun to think about. His story is legitimately heartbreaking. Just the slow dissolve of everything he knew because he couldn't handle the stress of the situation he was in, and in the end, he did that to himself. Hoist with his own petard. Spelled his own downfall. But you sympathize with him, because he's a good guy. Because he's anxious and he's not ready for this and he's just trying to survive. He was addicted to the memory gun; it was the only thing giving him some peace when he was in such a state.

And then of course there's the fact that he's just plain a fun character. The ill-advised lab scientist is always a fun trope. Country-fried ill-advised lab scientist is even better. I feel like there are two very distinct sides to McGucket and they can be a bit hard to reconcile. Like on the one hand he's this super nice, genuine guy who's doing the best he can. And on the other hand he builds doomsday robots as a coping mechanism and was, in fact, a cult leader for a brief period of time. Would totally like to know how that fell apart, by the way.
