Fanon Sanji is -very- different from canon Sanji and people tend to forget that. Sanji post time skip especially is. Difficult.

from my perspective as a newer fan (and from discussions i've been apart of / seen on tik tok) its especially jarring for people going from live action sanji first who really is The Gentleman Cook. while he does have a few lines that clearly lend from his animanga counterpart, he's overall a clearly caring, sympathetic and very like-able character (i'm not saying source sanji isn't btw). i'm all for flawed characters -- literally just made a post about it yesterday and not playing morality police over people's faves / sanitizing writing -- but I think for la first fans it is very difficult to watch some of the things sanji says & does a "gag" & for it to only get WORSE as time progresses

one of the funniest things about cooper howard is he let the wool be pulled over his eyes for years by vault tech (lost acting roles over supporting them, did commercials for them) all because his wife said so (he really really loved his wife) but the second he found out his dog wouldn’t be allowed in the vaults he was like wait a damn minute hold up hold on hell NO!!!! and committed espionage to listen in on a top secret meeting between the most powerful people in the world. he could allow corrupt capitalist doomsday fear tactics because his girl said so but not liking dogs is where he drew the damn line

“why do u like [insert character] they’re a bad person” because they’re a deeply flawed & complex person. fandom spaces have got to stop acting like the purity police and hold every character on screen to impossible morality standards. perfect people are boring and don’t exist, and this mentality has been bleeding into the writing of shows actively making them worse. this also goes in hand with learning the distinction between explaining and justifying a characters actions and being able to say “I know why they chose to do that but it doesn’t make it ok”
