I just started to write my first ever buddie fic.
NOT COMPLETED
A blue couch that changed everything
Summary:
Buck is trying to find a beautiful couch after his was destroyed after Kameron delivered her baby on it. Now, he must find a second couch that he loves and feels safe, secure, and most of all is comfortable to sit and fall asleep on. He needs to find it soon because he’s sick of sitting on folding chairs. While searching for his couch, although having a beautiful girlfriend, Natalia, he begins to notice a change. It’s begins when he goes to his co worker and best friend Eddie Diaz’s apartment and talks how much he loves his couch and brings to reminiscence all the long nights, sleepovers, drinking beer, dinners, and playing video games with Christopher, Eddie’s son.
How can one singular couch change and make him rethink everything he’s known? Why is he looking at Eddie differently and what does that mean?

Wait. I am confused with the couch. In 6x01 Eddie says to buck, “don’t you mean, your last two girlfriend came with couches” because buck said, “my last two couches came with girlfriends” and Eddie corrected him. His last two girlfriends, Ali and Taylor. They both brought in the couches with them. Ali was buck was moving into his new place and Taylor moving in. But now, Buck is starting this new relationship and they are immediately going couch shopping? Was that to signify a callback to Ali and Taylor and how those two relationships didn’t work? The couch theory to me, was never regarding an actual couch, but what a couch means for buck. It’s means him being at home, having a couch, is comfortable, safe, secure etc. sorry if i am rambling or confusing y’all. Could i be wrong to say them going to buy a couch is means their relationship is doomed?

i just hurt my own feelings because the ideas of golfing or hiking or meet-cute sound like things that you find on google on how to meet someone.
and i’m just thinking of eddie at the height of his loneliness, one side of the bed empty for years, reaching for his phone and googling how to meet someone, because he doesn’t want to use a dating app, he doesn’t want to be set up by his aunt, and part of me wonders if he feels like he doesn’t have anywhere else to turn about this.
like yeah, bobby is one of the people that’s guided him from widower status to opening himself up again, but i wonder just how much of it feels applicable to high-school-sweetheart eddie diaz, y’know?
because he met shannon so young, and they raced through all the “milestones” of a relationship - marriage, kids, separations, potential other pregnancy, potential divorce, and then the ultimate end - death at too young. all before they even had their own world-view, let alone responsible for raising a whole kid.
so eddie being clueless on how to connect or reach out just makes me so sad because as funny as that montage was, those are also things that sound exactly like they came from some generic list, that eddie desperately ended up going through with simply because he’s alone.
and more than all that, he’s lonely.

Can we talk about Eddie asking Bobby "so how'd you make it happen for you and Athena?" only for Bobby to describe the motorcycle call and Athena's support right before they're all about to be tossed into a huge, devastating call.
I don't know what to do with this yet, and maybe it doesn't mean anything, but there's something about the fact that Bobby and Athena knew one another before that call, but it was the devastation of that experience that brought them together. There's something about the fact that it wasn't just any call—they'd probably been on a hundred calls together by that point—but it wasn't just a regular call that was their turning point. It was a call where they both needed that support and found it in one another. There's something about the way Marisol and Natalia both showed up on calls, but they were just everyday calls, moments Eddie and Buck see every day that will never, really, be particularly memorable. But they're about to step into disaster again, this time with multiple members of the 118 in danger.
And I don't know. Something about that stands out. Something about the way it's not just about knowing one another, but about needing one another—about experiencing something devastating together, that isn't happening directly to one of them, but that creates the need for support and stepping into that role for one another in the right moment for it to become a turning point.

In this episode, we were greeted by some lovely shots of Eddie’s fridge. Personally, I think this was on purpose. For the audience to focus what Eddie views to him as important. We see, on the left side a picture of Eddie and Chris from Eddie begins. On the right side of the fridge, Chris’s school calendar, a baby picture of Chris, chris and Shannon at the beach, and a picture of Chris doing a school project. BUT we also have a other important picture that is on the right side on top by the corner.
Tumblr media
Hello again. Now that we had time to look at the picture, what could that picture be🤔🤔🤔 Let’s post a close up shall we
Tumblr media
Hmmmm I wonder who those two people could be. If we were to guess, given what this entire season is about, it’s only leaves us with two people. Christopher and buck. Time to us the question, why would they (the writer) put this specific photo? To start, we need to figure out the photo. Looking closely at the picture, I believe it is from THE TSUNAMI EPISODE - 3x02. Now WHY THIS. It’s simple, look at buddie this entire season. They have slowly been building them and changing what it means to be a “normative family”. Now let’s go to picture of 3x02 and continue.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Furthermore, why this specific episode? This is the episode where truly buddie begins. We see buck taking care of Chris and doing everything in his willpower to save him from the tsunami. We also learn just how much Eddie’s sees bucks love for Chris. In 3x02, towards the ending, we get a buddie and Chris scene where buck is confused as to why Eddie would let him babysit Chris again after almost losing him. This is where we get the infamous line “buck, there is no one in this world who I trust Christopher with than you” also, we can’t forgot photograph by ed Sherran plays right before their scene begins “ wait for me to come HOME”.
Now we get to the present timeline. Why add this picture, if it is indeed from this episode. As stated above, this season has been about slowly building buddie. We see it 6x01 when they have a conversation regarding girlfriends and couches that become a SYMBOL for them later on in the upcoming episode. After the lighting strike, bucks parents came back and gift him a new couch. To which, he struggled to relax and sleep and where Maddie hounded him which people to come hourly to check on him. Where did our buck go to escape, EDDIES HOUSE. what happens when buck immediately sits down on the couch, he’s relaxed and goes to sleep. We of course, see them in the kitchen, talking about the shooting and what buck is feeling and see buck be vulnerable with Eddie. We get the buddie scenes with the poker and of course of buck and Chris scene as well. Where did that scene that place, IN THE KITCHENNNNNNNNNN (bucks) giving the audience a FAMILY IDEA of them.
To end this long thread, which is prob dumb, according to Oliver’s interview, the new couch will be important until his final scene of the season. He said the couch “will be in danger before the season is over”. Now what is left to interpret, I believe there will be a cliffhanger BEFORE the finale epsiode. This will be what sets off the finale. I think it will be buck, Eddie, and Chris at his house. The finale is a continuation of the cliffhanger. I think them almost dying together, the three of them will set off their feelings for each other. Why else would the new couch matter this much and “be in danger” if it was not significantly Important to there story arc.
Anyways, this was long and i do apologize if I was just rambling on and on.

I think pretty much everyone knew that buddie would not be or go canon tonight. I find it interesting how much of each of the characters in their screen time was given on this particular episode. I think it’s important to know how quickly buck and Taylor kissed this episode knowing everything that was going on around them. While then kissing it was not quick, it was quick to the fact that that came randomly (for me) another interesting thing now we were able to see this episode was Ana didn’t have a single line and Buck and Eddie were the only ones who showed the least screen time together but yet had the most powerful line. Also to note, that when in the final moments of the episode wonder in the apartment, Eddie kisses Anna on the cheek.

Adding on to the Twitter drama
I do think he carries the weight of the buddie fandom because he’s always honest with us. Even he was pissed once (if i remember correctly) that he didn’t even know in which direction his character was going. I do think he should stay of Twitter because he doesn’t understand humor in the way us stans perceive it as. I’m glad he has publicly apologized to the owner of the account and cleared everything up. Ryan is i think, anti buddie, therefore he keeps his mouth shut. It just sucks for fans because we feel as thou the show does bait without realizing it. The director purposely makes and does shots with Oliver and Ryan that on other shows is a direction of a potential love interest. I wish they (the writers and show runners) would just say, “these characters are simply heterosexual and good buds” but they won’t because majority of the 911 fandom are buddie shippers in which loses the viewership. That’s why 911 is leading the race on Monday scripted shows, because of the shippers and while i wish people would watch the show for the show, becusss the writing is phenomenal and everyone’s acting is amazing, it isn’t the case.

Here’s my input in what happened with Oliver and the Twitter situation.
A fan responded to a tweet that basically said “Oliver has always been afraid of queerbait” and the fan quote-tweeted that said “if he is queerbaiting fr i vote we just absolutely destroy him,, make his biggest fear come to life everyone”.
Oliver found the tweeter and he responded with “if the finale isn’t everything you want it to be I should be destroyed? I don’t get it. I’m an actor. Doing my job.”
I agree with Oliver. While i do agree he purposely sought out a tweet with the word queerbait, he’s right. He’s always very careful not to queerbait becuse he knows how passionate the fans are for the POTENTIAL of buddie. He’s a actor doing his job and he doesn’t want to see stans angry tweeting and being pissed and probably flooding his IG comments over something he has no control over. I am a buddie, but the show hasn’t done really anything to even make the general viewer think “hey, are you more than friends (just my opinion). It’s a lose-lose situation. Do i think the account was joking yes, but we also have seen stans attack other cast members simply playing a character on the show. I guess I’ll end with this. Please be careful with how you write stuff.
