BEHKomiks is an ongoing Filipino LGBTQ+ urban fantasy title with horror elements, about queer Pinoys and their supernatural romantic partners.

(aka that comic I made about a dude and his Tikbalang boyfriend)

Ten years ago, 12-year old Rio Anderson killed a Mad Mambabarang*, who had enslaved an entire forest of Mahiwaga* creatures for almost a century.

Now he's 22, and the Mad One has somehow returned. Wishing to take revenge, the Mad One targets everybody Rio cares about, starting with his boyfriend, the Tikbalang* Siglo, and his childhood friend Gina Marquez.

With the help of his friends and allies, old and new, Rio must find the Mad One before his power grows too great, and figure out exactly how this creature of great evil was able to return from the dead.

BEHKomiks Glossary

Aswang

- a catch-all term for bloodthirsty monsters in Filipino folklore. Many stories say that aswang are able to shapeshift, but for the purposes of BEHKomiks, aswang are largely mindless, but dangerous, beasts that many supernatural authorities must protect people from. Many of the Mahiwaga characters in BEHKomiks are allowed special dispensation to live in the city by protecting humanity from aswang.

Babaylan 

-a holy being who uses light magic, a shaman or medicine woman. Always a woman, whether cis or transgender, with very few exceptions, if any. A babaylan was historically known as a religious leader in pre-colonial Philippines, and in BEHKomiks, is one who uses light magic to combat darkness in holy, godly edict, waging a silent war with dark magic users, such as mambabarang and mangkukulam. 

Mahiwaga

- magical

Mambabarang 

- a dark being who casts curses primarily involving insects ; an insect sorcerer

Manananggal 

- a mythological monster that takes the form of a human woman in daytime, but is able to detach her upper half from her lower half and grow wings from her back. Manananggal are known to eat small animals and babies, and suck the unborn from the wombs of women. In BEHKomiks, manananggal are only allowed by supernatural authorities to live in the city if they prove able to curb their bloodthirstiness.

Manghuhula 

-a seer, one who has strong magical potential, largely tied to light magic. No seer has the power to see all, so many are tied to specific people who are important or dangerous, and the fate that befalls these people.

Mangkukulam

-generally used as a term describing sorcerers who use dark magic. In BEHKomiks, and in Tagalog mythology, Mangkukulam is a dark god who was once known for causing house fires. In BEHKomiks, he appears as a trapped wisp, for a crime he recently committed, living as a human businessman in Metro Manila. Mangkukulam as a general term is also used to describe dark sorcerers who do not specialise in insect curses the way mambabarang do. 

Siyokoy

- scaled fish people who live underwater. They live in any large body of water, including lakes and rivers. In BEHKomiks, the siyokoy have no given gender except for their nobility, while common siyokoy change sexual traits as needed. Marikit is the highest ranking magic-user of her tribe, while Hait is a common, but respected, warrior. 

Tikbalang

- a tall, strong horse-headed man of Philippine mythology. The Tikbalang of BEHKomiks turn human with the use of glamours, and possess great strength and superhuman speed. They are separated by tribe, and half-human Tikbalang are born with feet, while pure blooded ones are born with hocked legs and hooves.
