Considering the amount of photos I put in, I think I'll put them in separate post progress pics of my boy (found here!). It feels so nice to finally have him finished; he ended up taking two whole semesters to finish, mostly because there were multiple things I redid on him and finicky small bits and bobs (the fucking EARRINGS and why yes, they ARE movable!) plus, generally being really busy with uni and part time work on top of this and working on other hobbies because why have one and actually finish projects on a decent timeline. Don't ask me how long this took because I don't want to think about that; there were certainly a few days where I spent most of it working on him (while watching one piece of course), not to mention all the odd hours I spent on the evening to late night also working on him. I think I was just starting thriller bark when I started him and now am near the end of dressrosa... Which is a good number of episodes later. Labour of love and all that. Nevertheless, here he is!

Notes:
One of the first attempts at sculpting the boy; the head was later altered quite a bit and the legs entirely scrapped, and the torso bulked up shaking my shoulders feverishly: we need to properly represent his 110 cm bust and what we have isn't cutting it. Scabbards were made (which survived till the end!) and the original clay swords were made by this point.
New torso and legs give (hallelujah), as well as the loops and holes for the ears (such finicky small work, fuck me) were made. Holes were first made with straight wire and dried before the hoops were gently (and with swearing) inserted through.
Clothes added, also with swearing as the clay dried and stiffened faster then I wanted to and made it hard to get nice folds. Scarf was re-made and smoothed later.
Scabbards added! Immediately drops it and breaks a piece of it off. I've glued multiple bits of the scabbards back on the flimsy bastards. He remained armless for a good while. A Venus on the shelf by my desk...
Because the clay sword (after a good hour of tender focused work) would IMMEDIATELY would break upon the lightest touch, annoying me to no end, one evening was like God I wish I had actual metal to use instead wouldn't that be cool, and then was like OH! I COULD DO THAT! So the metal is actually cut from the tin of a cat food can, straightened and sanded., as seen in photo!
The blades hilted, before placed in capable hands
ARMS! and the sculpting is finished. Onto painting!
First layers of paint on various parts; I generally paint via colours I'm using at the moment (ie, greens in this instance)
More layers laid down. I generally go for shading in rules of three (main colour, lighter, and darker hues) and apply them at different opacity of acrylic. Adjusted the green since I found it too pungent. Once the fur tones were finished I gave him his stripes (cue me searching up loads of photos of tigers and tiger fursonas to see how people have done the stripes. Did you know depending on the area they are from they have different face shapes and stripe patterns? Fascinating stuff)
Finished project! Last layers, and highlights where added, adjusted the eye and fuck-ups re-adjusted. Dropped and had to reglue things. The gold is actual gold leaf I applied using a glue you paint on but that was a bit of a whole mess and took a long time, and doesn't go on very flat on very not-flat surfaces... (Who would have thought...) In the future may instead use gold paints for metallics.
Here's also the link to the post of more photos of him finished!

ATTENTION ARTISTS OF TUMBLR
since tumblr is going to start scraping blogs to train ai be sure to glaze and nightshade your art!! Not only will both of these programs protect your art from being copied but nightshade also poisons any ai that tries to steal it
here is some more info on these tools and where you can download them:
Nightshade: Protecting Copyright (uchicago.edu)
Nightshade: Downloads (uchicago.edu)
Glaze - What is Glaze (uchicago.edu)

Hi!!! Do you sell prints!!!!!!???? I love your Mushishi paintings so much!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi! Thank you so much for the ask and the compliment, that's super flattering!!! 💕🥺 The unfortunate response is that I don't sell prints right now; I'd like to eventually, but I'm just too busy to a) make enough art to warrant setting a store up and b) even have time to set up a store. Usually come summer I have more free time, but we'll see.
I do intend to do more mushishi paintings though! So keep an eye out, and if I ever do eventually sell prints, they would definitely be up :)

What is this about the tumblr staff wanting to sell art data to midjourney?
An ex-colleague of mine mentioned yesterday that there may be contacts between Automattic and midjourney in that direction, but nothing is public yet and I don't have any more info. They probably won't have anything specific to share either, since they left the company weeks ago too. That being said:
I have no reason to doubt my ex-coworker word, they are a trustworthy person.
Tumblr's CEO has been absurdly enthusiastic (comically, even) about AI, and is a big fan of LLMs and 'AI' companies.
A deal with midjourney could solve tumblr financial issues (not the same company, but openAi is paying up to 5 million/year to news companies to use their content as training data... tumblr generates several orders of magnitude more content than any newspaper or any media company and it only would need a 20 to 30 million per year deal to be profitable)
So I don't have any extra info yet, but I'm keeping my ears open.

Another mushishi ukiyoe inspired watercolour and ink piece. This one was based off of Sacred Bridge at Nikko by Ito Yuhan.
Wip photos below the cut

Thought I had a pencil photo as well, but looks like I rather forgot to take one, huh.

Since people seem to have found and liked my one piece figures, I thought it would be fun to let anyone whose following me know that I'm nearly finished sculpting a tiger zoro figure! Here is two WIP photos.

There's also a lot more one piece anthro/furry figures that I have planned but I'm unfortunately generally really busy, so it's a bit like pulling teeth to find time to work on art.

Mushishi watercolour based off of the ukiyoe print Dusk at Tagonoura Beach by Kawase Hasui; was originally gonna do it for Mushishi week this year and proceeded to not finish, let alone begin the art during the week...
I wanna do more Mushishi ukiyoe prints since it was fun to do, but we'll see what happens

One piece smoker anthro figure as a wolf. Only after finishing I discovered he has an outfit without his jacket and wearing a leather halter for his jitte and I was outraged since I could have done that instead (totally for ease of details for the coat).

Saw a fanart of Crocodile as, well, a crocodile, and was IMMEDIATELY then possessed by the need to create a small air-dry clay figure of crocodile as his namesake in his iconic outfit (nearly put a banana on his head like his beloved bananadiles and then didnt because I'm a coward). The clay I used (DAS air dry, paper based) isn't my favourite compared to other earthen based ones I've used before (critterclay...), but I still got the hang of using it anyhow. There's really something all consuming about sculpting things.
