Mushishi watercolour based off of the ukiyoe print Dusk at Tagonoura Beach by Kawase Hasui; was originally gonna do it for Mushishi week this year and proceeded to not finish, let alone begin the art during the week...
I wanna do more Mushishi ukiyoe prints since it was fun to do, but we'll see what happens

And then they came to a gate. The two wind-swept figures standing amidst the clearing are Ayla and her partner Jondalar on their long and adventurous journey westwards along the Great Mother River, the Danube, and still there is so much more to explore.
The 760 pages of the History novel The Plains of Passage by Jean M. Auel, sequel to The Mammoth’s Hunters, The Valley of Horses and prequel to The Shelters of Stone, set out to write an unbearded tale of the Pleistocene, which foresees a different fate for its female protagonist than to squat in a cave and wait for her food, supplied by a half-ape. Instead Ayla leaves, embarking on a life in-between tribes, crossing the plains with a horse and a wolf she tamed herself (first time in human history). As the main character is faced with bloody initiations, game changing shamans, and the psychological exploration of animalistic totems, the reader shares in her comfort to be able to fully rely on her mystical intuition which helps her to confidently master her heart in passage. She turns to pouch-making and fur-sewing, leather-bending and wool-knitting, which leaves the old horde in dumbstruck admiration and the new peers in teeth-grinding distrust. The post-feminist novel seeks gender equality in an ancient romance to fictionalize emancipation as “a natural part of life”, opposed to the straining and still ongoing discussion about equal pay. Within, Visaczki shows the contradicting lure of a conservative Fantasy met with the rituals of progress on the gallery’s wide white plains.
The woollen felts show Landscapes of Far Away, views on the settlement, and a pre-historic dispute between a dinosaur and a butterfly. One, an extinct, monstrous relic – the has-been, the other cursed to metamorphize itself from a caterpillar to a symbol of beauty and change. Other felts transform doodles and scribbles into woollen patterns and ornaments, that seem to root from a graphical habit of juvenile expression by the use of the faded, yet intense colour range of textmarkers and other office supply products. Wooden sculptural elements from the same anthroposophical spectrum compose a greyish wall that divides the gallery, which offers a gateway, a passage to slip through. But instead of being a symbolistic take on threshold, exploration and passage, there may be other questions attached to these motifs’ bipolarity. For example: is it an option for me to remain on one of life’s lower floors? This question leads to the Unabomber, neo-paganism and all sorts of right-wing sentiments that can come with or without gentrification, but certainly with identity tales of loss and exclusion murmured among those clutching the slickly spinning spiral of civil progress.
But the question also leads you straight to the half-ape you were and you left behind. Does the horse I domesticated myself really understand me? And that lover that travels the plains with me? What will I tell the new tribe about the old one? What will I tell the old tribe about the new one? Do I really need this wolf?
Well, in moments of doubts you can always bow your head low over the old weathered rune stone and read there whatever you can get out of it. Take for example the two ravens Huginn (Old Norse “thought”) and Muninn (Old Norse “memory”). Huginn and Muninn inform Odin (Old Norse “Gandalf”) about what is happening in the world and report to him at the end of each day. Odin, although generally perceived as a blood-thirsty-warrior-God cares very much about the two ravens. The Edda, in a translation by Benjamin Thorpe, let’s Odin mumble:
Hugin and Munin fly each day over the spacious earth. I fear for Hugin, that he come not back, yet more anxious am I for Munin.
For Miriam Visaczki’s show “The Plains of Passage” you have to imagine Odin waiting for Huginn and Muninn and they just won’t come back home.

Got obsessed with the designs from this post which is based off the official strap merch and proceeded to decide to make lil figures of the Vash and Wolfwood ones from air dry clay. Vash's has a little hook on his back so he can be hung up since I thought that would be fun, and they both now oversee my desk. I miiiiight make a six peice set of proper kuronekos later, or something. We'll see.

One piece smoker anthro figure as a wolf. Only after finishing I discovered he has an outfit without his jacket and wearing a leather halter for his jitte and I was outraged since I could have done that instead (totally for ease of details for the coat).

Dusting off my art skills to draw shitty memes. I feel like this is v much tristamp characterization of Meryl and Wolfwoods relationship...
Based on this meme (Id also below)
Tumblr media
ID: two panel comic. The original comic has two quickly drawn characters in each other panels likely made in ms paint. In the first panel the one in the foreground with a round head has their eyebrows drawn together in an almost frown, while the speech bubble from them says "My knees hurt from sucking dick". The second character in the back ground with an oval head has a speech bubble from them that slightly overlaps the first characters, saying "WHAT WERE YOU SUCKING DICK OR SOMETHING", their expression a ":D". The second panel has the foreground character turning to look at the background character. Nothing is said and they both have ._. expressions.
In the first image, the spoof of the two panels, is done in pencil and the foreground character is replaced with Wolfwood from Trigun, his features drawn over the original style, who say the "My knees hurt from sucking dick", while the background character is replaced by Meryl, who says the "WHAT WERE YOU SUCKING DICK OR SOMETHING". Wolfwood has his cross behind and is smoking a cigarette. As a bonus beneath the second panel is a little sketch of Vash's face, giving a wink and a ':D', with a scribble of a love and peace hand sign beside him. An arrow points to him that reads 'the man who's dick is getting sucked'. They are done in the 98 anime style.

Considering the amount of photos I put in, I think I'll put them in separate post progress pics of my boy (found here!). It feels so nice to finally have him finished; he ended up taking two whole semesters to finish, mostly because there were multiple things I redid on him and finicky small bits and bobs (the fucking EARRINGS and why yes, they ARE movable!) plus, generally being really busy with uni and part time work on top of this and working on other hobbies because why have one and actually finish projects on a decent timeline. Don't ask me how long this took because I don't want to think about that; there were certainly a few days where I spent most of it working on him (while watching one piece of course), not to mention all the odd hours I spent on the evening to late night also working on him. I think I was just starting thriller bark when I started him and now am near the end of dressrosa... Which is a good number of episodes later. Labour of love and all that. Nevertheless, here he is!

Commentary below:
Notes:
One of the first attempts at sculpting the boy; the head was later altered quite a bit and the legs entirely scrapped, and the torso bulked up shaking my shoulders feverishly: we need to properly represent his 110 cm bust and what we have isn't cutting it. Scabbards were made (which survived till the end!) and the original clay swords were made by this point.
New torso and legs give (hallelujah), as well as the loops and holes for the ears (such finicky small work, fuck me) were made. Holes were first made with straight wire and dried before the hoops were gently (and with swearing) inserted through.
Clothes added, also with swearing as the clay dried and stiffened faster then I wanted to and made it hard to get nice folds. Scarf was re-made and smoothed later.
Scabbards added! Immediately drops it and breaks a piece of it off. I've glued multiple bits of the scabbards back on the flimsy bastards. He remained armless for a good while. A Venus on the shelf by my desk...
Because the clay sword (after a good hour of tender focused work) would IMMEDIATELY would break upon the lightest touch, annoying me to no end, one evening was like God I wish I had actual metal to use instead wouldn't that be cool, and then was like OH! I COULD DO THAT! So the metal is actually cut from the tin of a cat food can, straightened and sanded., as seen in photo!
The blades hilted, before placed in capable hands
ARMS! and the sculpting is finished. Onto painting!
First layers of paint on various parts; I generally paint via colours I'm using at the moment (ie, greens in this instance)
More layers laid down. I generally go for shading in rules of three (main colour, lighter, and darker hues) and apply them at different opacity of acrylic. Adjusted the green since I found it too pungent. Once the fur tones were finished I gave him his stripes (cue me searching up loads of photos of tigers and tiger fursonas to see how people have done the stripes. Did you know depending on the area they are from they have different face shapes and stripe patterns? Fascinating stuff)
Finished project! Last layers, and highlights where added, adjusted the eye and fuck-ups re-adjusted. Dropped and had to reglue things. The gold is actual gold leaf I applied using a glue you paint on but that was a bit of a whole mess and took a long time, and doesn't go on very flat on very not-flat surfaces... (Who would have thought...) In the future may instead use gold paints for metallics.
Here's also the link to the post of more photos of him finished!

Saw a fanart of Crocodile as, well, a crocodile, and was IMMEDIATELY then possessed by the need to create a small air-dry clay figure of crocodile as his namesake in his iconic outfit (nearly put a banana on his head like his beloved bananadiles and then didnt because I'm a coward). The clay I used (DAS air dry, paper based) isn't my favourite compared to other earthen based ones I've used before (critterclay...), but I still got the hang of using it anyhow. There's really something all consuming about sculpting things.

Day two of mushishi week 2022; alone. I've been meaning to post and finish the art for mushishi week (and natsume yuujincho week) but I've been so busy that I've been unable to do most of it... But hopefully I will be able to, even if it's much later than expected, lol.

Pulled some of my shit together for inktober- gonna be working on it sporadically since I'm currently in the thick of midterms and don't have time to do much else then study. But here's the first day- I'll probably be doing most off of the mushitober prompt list by @squidego which I rather enjoy. Gonna actually try working with all the inks I have in my desk that I never used this year.
