It’s ... it‘s over!
I know they are coming back but the “The End” hit me way harder than I expected.
Okay, okay, I’m okay (I’m not! I miss them!)
“Duke Bastien Lykel,” Olivia said. “For your staunch allegiance and selfless sacrifices to Cordonia, to its citizens, and to its king, I hereby dub thee Guardian of the Realm.”
“Thank you, Your Majesty,” Bastien said, bowing.
He really freaking deserves this! GOD WHY IS PB SO MEAN TO THIS PRECIOUS MAN?!
“Just when I thought I was out of amazing titles to tack onto the end of my name,” Maxwell said.
Gotta love Maxwell, he’s the life of the party and the perfect comic relief!
“What about you?” Bertrand asked Bastien. “You’re not going to come out great in parts of this.”
“That feels accurate,” Bastien said with a shrug.
Can’t be any worse than what canon did in TRF …
This series was freaking incredible! You had us hooked from the beginning and you really did all the characters justice. I truly love how you fixed some issues and handled others. I know this isn’t the true end but still tears are coming because you have done such an amazing job with this that I’m so incredibly sad to see those two words.
Sadness aside you have knocked it out of the park and this is for you, you deserve it for handling this entire series so beautifully even with so many hard and ugly topics. Bravo my dear!
Summary: Before leaving on their honeymoon, there are a few more surprises in store for MC (Alice) and Bastien.

“A bookstore, man? Really?” Leo asked Bastien, who shrugged.
“It worked, she married me.”
DON’T KNOCK THE BOOKSTORE DATE!
But seriously I can’t even count how many times my husband and I ended up at a bookstore with his friends when we all went out. It was at least a dozen. Bookstores are freaking great!
“I’m sorry you’ve had such a bad experience with nobles,” Alice said. “Working in the service industry, you can really tell what people are like based on how they treat the people who serve them.”
“Yes,” Maureen agreed. “You can.”
Maureen led Alice outside to the hedge maze where Olivia was waiting for her.
Yea well, you are about to betray four of the good ones (‘cause you not only betrayed them but their husbands and oh boy are those two gonna be out for blood …)
“You know, if you wanted a shotgun wedding, I could’ve provided an actual shotgun for you,” Olivia said, all traces of the momentary sadness gone. Alice laughed, the sound strange and unsettling in their cell.
Only Olivia would say that while tied up. Oh hey look at that! Laughing without coughing my head off! Go me! lol
“I don’t know if I could actually hit someone in the head with this,” Alice said, feeling sick.
“You can, and you will,” Olivia said. “Remember—you are fighting for you and your baby to get back to Bastien. You can do this.”
Alice took a deep breath and nodded. “I can do this.”
Holding it when you aren’t in danger you think that, once your life is threatened you can do far more than you ever thought, multiply that when you are pregnant because you aren’t the only one you’re trying to protect. You got this Alice.
“What in the Scooby Doo-style fuckery is this?” Alice asked.
Bahahaha, does that make Drake Shaggy or Scooby?
“Obviously,” Olivia said. “You were this close to having a throwing knife in your neck, Drake.”
“So just like every day of my childhood,” Drake said.
I think the fact that he’s so calm about it is what makes it even funnier!
“He tried to come—it took three members of the royal guard to keep him from getting in a car—but Liam finally convinced him that Anton was likely watching him and coming here might put you in more danger,” Hana said.
Only three? Yeah, he’s on his way. Gonna take way more than three guards to keep Bas from protecting Alice and their baby.
Seemingly out of nowhere, Bastien tackled Anton to the ground, knocking the gun free and sending it clattering to the floor and out of reach. Anton twisted under Bastien, snarling as he pulled a knife free.
Told you three weren’t enough guards to hold Bas back!
“I am now,” she said. “I thought you had to stay behind?”
“There was absolutely no way I was going to do that.”
And anyone who thought he actually would stay back doesn’t know him at all. (For the record I mean Drake and Maxwell who clearly thought the three guards were enough to hold Bas.)
“It’s hard to watch Liv walk away after everything that’s happened today,” Liam said. “I don’t want to let her out of my sight.”
“I know the feeling,” Bastien said. Liam took a breath and turned to look at him.
What is it about protective men????
“I hope this was worth your life, you miserable, pathetic maggot,” Liam said. He stood up and nodded to Bastien. With a twist of Bastien’s hands, Anton’s neck snapped, the sound amplified by the empty room, and he fell to the ground, dead.
“Duke Bastien Lykel of Valtoria, you are officially relieved of your duty to the royal guard,” Liam said.
“Thank you, sir.”
AND THAT IS HOW YOU RETIRE!!!! Lol. But seriously, talk about the ultimate way out of your job!

I had a wonderful pithy review almost finished and made the mistake of putting my phone down and it disappeared so you get this less thought out review instead. (Sorry) Stupid phone!
“They’re fucking bridesmaids, just shoot them already!” one of the other assassins barked as he shot the other royal guard in the chest.
Yea, because that automatically makes them weak and manageable?! Where did Anton get these guys?! Let’s just underestimate Olivia and see how that goes shall we?
*covers face* NO NO NO! Not the pregnant woman! Seriously what is it with your muse and mine constantly putting pregnant woman in danger? Liza and Alice should be hiding from us!
Bastien nearly threw up with relief when he heard her voice. The traffic had stopped and there was no way around it with street after street closed off for the royal wedding.
“Fuck it,” Bastien said as he put the car in park and jumped out, sprinting in the direction of the boutique, his phone in hand.
I had honestly forgotten that he was listening to all this. I’d be throwing up if I was listening to the people I loved in trouble and couldn’t help them either. Yikes!
“I…I think I killed someone,” Alice said. “I’ve never killed anyone before.”
“Were they trying to kill you?” Bastien asked, pulling back to look her in the face.
“Yes.”
“Then you saved me the hassle of having to kill them myself,” Bastien said.
I get it Alice, but you have to remind yourself “it was my life or his” in this instance yours was worth far more and you can’t feel guilty for protecting yourself.
“Lady Alice, I’m sorry,” Mara said.
“At this point, I’m just glad you’re alive,” Alice said.
At this point I’m feeling suspicious. like seriously Mara just always goes missing when she’s needed and is always conveniently hurt or doing something “helpful” so she’s never fired. How PB go and do Bas like they did when Mara and her unhelpful self was RIGHT THERE?!
“And…we have some news,” Savannah said, looking at Bertrand, who cleared his throat and leaned in closer to Alice and Bastien.
“It would be inappropriate to make a big deal out of it today, but I—we—wanted to tell you that in a few days we’re going to officially announce our engagement.”
I LOVE YOU SO FUCKING MUCH RIGHT NOW FOR THIS FIX!!! PB making such a big deal about their Engagement in the middle of our reception was so tacky and made me so mad and I’m so glad you fixed it!

“Do you have to work all day today?” Alice asked as she leaned against the counter.
“Hopefully not. I’m going to be busy up until the ceremony starts but, as long as there aren’t any immediate concerns on the radar, I should be able to just be a guest.”
Oh, you poor clueless man. This is not about to be a easy breezy day and you are so about to lose your damn mind with worry.
“Drake, your masculinity is not this fragile,” Alice said. “A nail file and some moisturizer isn’t going to make your dick fall off.”
bahahahaha oh Alice, how I love you!
And now Olivia is noticing that Alice is “filling out”. My top three guesses of how they all find out about the baby:
1. Maxwell accidentally spills the beans saying something that seems like nothing but then everyone is like “holy shit!”
2. Bertrand blunders it. I mean come on, the guy is all about etiquette but I could see him saying something that just makes everyone stop and stare while he tries to fix it so Alice doesn’t burst into tears.
3. Olivia and her observations, though I don’t see her just saying something to everyone. If she told anyone it would be Liam who might accidentally offer congratulations in front of everyone not realizing no one knew.
Bastien managed to hold it together until Alice put down her phone as he jogged towards a car. He climbed inside and muted his side of the call so she couldn’t hear him.
“FUCK!” he screamed in the silence of the car. He’d known. He’d known something was wrong and now Alice was pinned down in a fucking boutique. He took a breath, unmuted the call, put his phone on speaker, and turned on the car.
It huuuuuuuuuuuurts! Omg that hurts so damn bad!
I’m okay. I’m okay. I promise! (I’m not okay …)

For the fanfic questions, I obviously have to ask about Athena and Percy! I can't pick which questions to use, so I'll leave it up to you--answer as many as you'd like (I'd love to know the info for all of them if you're feeling up to it, but I also recognize that you're sick and that's a lot haha)
Oh, you know how to get on my good side! I live to talk about these two! Going with the series that started it all, What Almost Was
1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?
TRR in general started the series I liked the story but we all know I have a thing for older men and let’s face it in book two Liam is a dipshit for making MC a mistress and hiding her. So I was like “what if there was an older Duke as an option and make things more interesting?”
Fun fact: What Almost Was was meant to be the prequel to In Their Hearts my first Poly series. Between Liam behaving like an ass and Percy being his perfect self and the plan that came up to get Liam out of his engagement to Madeline the plot changed and Athena no longer fit into the In Their Hearts world so I actually changed the MC to April in that series to avoid confusion.
2: What scene did you first put down?
For the most part the entire series was written in order. I will say that Complications was written several chapters before I was ready for it but mostly it was written in perfect order so the first scene put down was Athena and Percy meeting at the bar on the Royal train.
5: What part was hardest to write?
Dumping Percy. *hides face in shame* Yes, I actually wrote it, before you get upset let me explain!
Okay, so I mentioned that this was meant to be a prequel series but then Percy messed up my plans about four chapters in and things started to change in my head. Between the characters starting to take charge (it always happens to me!) and Percy and Athena being so damn perfect together I started to make plans which included two endings to the series. The first ending is the one you got, Athena realizing she belonged with Percy and she tells Liam, the alternate ending (which I think only two maybe three other people have actually read) Athena just shatters Percy, I mean she was kind but by the time I wrote that scene I knew Percy didn’t have another option for a happy ending Athena was his endgame so writing it nearly destroyed me. In the end I decided to scrap that ending and the alternate series that would have come from it.
6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?
I think it is the first fic that the main character ended up with an OC. Percy himself makes it special because the way (almost) everyone loved him.
7: Where did the title come from?
I mean it was meant to be a prequel about the almost love that Athena didn’t choose ...
9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?
Just the alternate ending that I will never publish.
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I wrote this four years ago, I don’t even remember the playlist I was listening to. I know that I was listening to a mix of pop and country but beyond that I don’t even remember.
15: What did you learn from writing this fic?
I learned that planning doesn’t always work, your characters will do what they want and trying to fight them is futile. (Seriously, I pulled out my hair a few times trying to get them to do what I wanted instead of just letting them be.)

Woo! Is it hot in here or is it me?
It’s probably me cause the fever does not want to leave (wtf) but the steam in this definitely didn’t help matters.
Olivia, oh how I love that badass. She did not back the fuck down and I love her. I’m with Bastien and everyone else being a tad mad at Alice for putting herself in danger but at the same time I’m proud that she protected her friend. Clearly I’m conflicted, the mom in me screaming not to put herself in danger like that but the friend in me like “don’t mess with my family” ready to tear off limbs.
Another excellent chapter my dear, I just need to remember to not read the next one in the same room as my quarantined but not sick family because they wouldn’t leave me be and read in peace (they are going more than a little stir crazy, not that I blame them.)
Summary: An attack in town leads to new information and an intimate talk between MC (Alice) and Bastien (NSFW).

ITS BAAAAAAAACK!!!! I cannot tell you how much I missed this story! I love it so fucking much! Perfect timing to distract me from how crummy I feel too even if I did end up coughing a few times from laughing so hard. Stupid covid.

I’m rewatching Once Upon a Time and I forgot that Tom Ellis played Robin Hood for an episode in season 2 before Sean Maguire took over the role in season 3.

I cannot tell you how much I have missed this story! I love your retelling so fucking much! Okay, on to the review!
struggles to breathe Omg Alice and her expectations of camping has me fucking rolling! She thought they fought bears wipes tears I’m dead.
Snorts omg Drake talking about Maxwell’s kraken, dead.
“Dorian, Liv says there’s a jetted tub!” Alice called as she headed into the bathroom. “Holy shit, heated towel racks?”
“That’s what you find most impressive? Heated towel racks?” Bastien asked with a grin as he joined her in the bathroom.
I mean, warm towels are freaking Heaven so I get it.
“If anyone is shooting flaming arrows at Liam, it should be me,” Olivia said sullenly.
Omg I love Liv so fucking much!
“Dorian, I’m not going to break—I’m fine, I promise.”
“I know you’re not,” Bastien said as he put an arm around her. “I promise I’m not trying to micromanage you, I just…I want to wait on you and make sure you have everything you need.”
“I know,” Alice said, circling her arm around his waist. “And thank you. I love that you take such good care of me.” She tilted her face up towards him and he planted a gentle, jostled kiss on her lips as they walked.
Could Bas be anymore perfect? I don’t think so!
That smut was fucking fire, okay?
Oh no! Alice almost puked in front of Maxwell and of course he notices she’s pale, the one time he’s being perceptive as fuck is the time Alice wants him not to be, but she managed a pretty decent rebuttal that hopefully won’t have Maxwell suspicious.
God I love these two and I missed them so much but they are as always worth the wait!
Summary: Everyone is headed to Vegas for Olivia and Liam’s stag/hen do–but Alice and Bastien still find time to celebrate their honeymoon. (NSFW)
