cut for personal whinging (because it's not allowed to live in my head anymore and there's not many other outlets where I can put this out into the world without ruffling feathers)

man, two anxiety attacks in the span of ten days is just so exhausting? today's was less awful compared to the last one, but the bar is set to: can I actually move my mouth to speak or am I a frozen, husk of a human?

my therapist (who is retiring in a couple months fml) keeps telling me about how much I've grown, especially with setting boundaries and not over functioning in my friendships. (I'm the empress of over functioning--thanks mom and dad).

what sucks is that I've felt pretty abandoned by friends since this summer, and the distraction from the dumpster fire life would feel more bearable if I had some other outlet? my bff now mostly contacts me when she needs a place to crash or wants to tell me about how amazing her new job is (our shared dream job).

for the past decade or so of my life I've been the friend who was always there no matter the trash fire, day in and day out. and when things go quiet, I'm the one that does the constant reach out and checking in. I think it's my attempt to remind them that hey, I'm here and this whole friendship thing should be reciprocal.

and when I'm feeling low, I just want to vent or be distracted. but then I feel like I'm somehow inconveniencing them when I'm not performing happiness/okay-ness/chill-ness. because then they def won't text/message back.

I get that everyone has their own shit they're dealing with and life transitions. I just get sad at people who I've shown up for in the past, regardless of my present circumstances, and they don't return it. not even 5% returns.

it feels like a decades long lesson on why you shouldn't show up for people, but I don't like that idea anymore than feeling pushed aside.

Fic: ship to wreck (Tommy/Alfie) - 1/5

Pairing: Tommy/Alfie; Alfie/OMC (past)

Summary: [Post-Season 2 / Season 3 Divergence] After interrupting a quiet dinner, Tommy is forced to confront the fact that Alfie has a past he never once considered.

Notes: I initially had the idea for this fic in 2019, but due to a lack of time, self-confidence, and some fandom wank, I didn't start filling in notes and snippets until now. This is pure self-indulgence. I love a good ex fic, and what I like even more is when said ex isn't some villainous caricature. Life is more complicated than that. Not every ex is a threat to a relationship, but sometimes it takes some growing pains to get used to the idea of former lovers in one's partner's life.

For anyone concerned that this won't be a Tommy/Alfie focused fic, fear not. The only drama is the one Tommy creates for himself because he always has been and always will be a jealous twit. Tis canon.

The keys feel like liquid in Tommy’s fingers, slipping to the car’s floor before he can manage to catch them with a fumbling grasp. Exhaling, he leans over, his forehead resting on the wheel. A moment of peace and then he lashes out, his fist hitting the plush of the seat with a backwards swing.

Fucking communists.

At his mind’s periphery, the dull pulse of a tell-tale throb suggests the gin is wearing off. Tommy’s not sure he’s ready to be sober just yet; it means a starker picture of what kind of hoops the communists are making him jump through. It means reconciling with himself the fact that he is jumping.

It takes a moment, but he manages to locate the keys and his bag. His headache steadily making itself more apparent, the walk to Alfie’s front door feels more like a crawl. He finds the right key easily enough, but it’s a struggle to get it in the keyhole. Before turning the knob, he takes a steadying breath and tries to focus on anything—open fields, the taste of sweet grass, the scent of horse sweat—that will take him far away from the tangled web he’s spun.

When he finally brings himself to step inside, he's struck by warm, dry air that carries the faint scent of cigar smoke. Alfie rarely indulges—and Tommy has yet to figure out why Alfie allows himself the things he does and swears off the rest—yet the smell lingers, light like a memory.

Lumbering steps. The cock of a gun.

Tommy’s eyes flutter shut.

“Just me,” he calls.

No lie, there are something like seven different types of listening, and people tend to rely on one or two types. Interpersonal conflict can arise when Person A is seeking X type of listening and Person B defaults to Y type. Ask people what kind of listening they need from you before they begin speaking. Not only will you avoid conflict, but the person who is seeking you out is far more likely to receive the relief that they needed when the came to speak with you in the first place.

Have you heard the good word about the Pembrokeshire walrus yet?

This walrus is fucken lost.

But Wales has lost its collective shit about it. They’re generally keeping its location secret to keep people away, but we get updates every day if it’s still here, if it’s happy, if it’s healthy. We think it was in Ireland about two weeks ago, which is interesting, because it is not actually native to Ireland either. Why is it here? No one knows.

It seems to like Pembrokeshire beaches.

Welcome to Peaky Blinders Summer Bingo!

This fest is a “bingo” style fest, which means each participant will receive a bingo card. The goal is to fulfill a set of prompts in a line or pattern (more on that below). After you’ve completed your line/pattern, you’ve got bingo!

/ Rules /

1. In the spirit of keeping things stress-free, there is one rule regarding fanworks: they must be brief. Please see the “Fanworks” section below for further details.

2. There are no restrictions on canonical character pairings for the fest. However, rare pairs are enthusiastically welcomed!

3. For the purposes of this fest, no Character/OC or Character/Reader ships may be featured in any bingo fanwork. We want to give canon characters the chance to shine.

4. You do not have to use the same pairing or same fanwork type to create bingo. For instance, you can write two John/Esme fics and draw one Ada/Jessie sketch.

/ Timeline /

Sign-ups Begin: July 5th

Sign-ups End*: July 31th 

Deadline** for Fanworks: August 31st

*You cannot request a bingo card after this date. The exception is if you are already participating and have finished your card. Just DM me, and I can make you a second.

**As with all the fests I run, the deadline is a recommendation for those who like to have deadlines. However, no one is going to shame you if you complete your card after this date. You can still add fanworks to the AO3 collection.

/ Sign-Ups /

First, you need to decide whether you want (1) a sensory prompt card; (2) an untranslatable word card; or (3) a mix of both. You can check out all the possible prompts you can get in THIS DOCUMENT. After you decide which kind of card you’re comfortable with, you can select three prompts as Do Not Want prompts on your sign-up form. You may also opt-in to one prompt of your choosing. So make sure to note those for the next step!

Use the following form to request a bingo card: HERE.

After you fill out that form, I will create a randomized bingo card to your preferences. I will then email you the card at your preferred email. That’s all there is to it.

/ Fanworks /

You may create any kind of fanwork to fulfill the bingo space. Because this is a challenge, there are a few rules to make it fair:

-Fic: 1000 words or less

-Art/Edit/Gifs: Sketch or edit/gifs featuring no more than four images

-Fanmix/Playlist: Five songs maximum

/ How to Make Bingo /

When signing up, you will have the option to choose one of three card sizes: 3x3, 4x4, or 5x5. What lines/shapes you can use to make bingo will depend on the size of your card, so make sure to take that into consideration when you fill out your form.

If you want to keep it simple, select from one of these BASIC BINGO SHAPES.

If you’re feeling daring, select one of the CHALLENGING SHAPES.

/ Where Do I Post /

You can post on both Tumblr and AO3! Feel free to post as you complete your bingo squares; no need to wait until you get bingo.

If posting on AO3, you can add your work to THIS COLLECTION.

Once you have finished bingo, make a masterlist of your bingo fanworks at tag me in it! After our soft August 31st deadline, I will make a masterpost of everyone who got bingo.
