Stuffing your hands into the pocket of your hoodie, you tuck your chin into your neck, bracing yourself for the cold winter air. You’re careful not to slip on the ice outside, making your way outside of the school doors, your eyes in search of Lip through the crowd of students hurrying to get home. 

You spot him easily enough, a smile instantly falling on your lips as all care goes right out of your head and you rush over to him, nearly slipping along the way. Even though you’d seen him that morning, and during lunch, you wrap your arms tightly around Lip’s waist, pulling close for a hug, one that he easily returns. And when you lean back, meeting his eyes, while the two of you wear a bright grin, you let out a soft giggle.

Leaning up onto the tips of your toes, you press a kiss against Lip’s lips. It’s short and sweet, one that he immediately returns. And when you pull back, lowering yourself back onto the sole’s of your feet, Lip raises his hand, gently brushing back the strand of hair that had fallen into your eyes.

And then, for a moment, you just gaze at him, smiling softly.

“What?” He questions, raising a brow as the two of you fall in step with one another.

“Nothing,” you shrug, your laughter dying. “You’re just cute is all.”

Bumping into you lightly, Lip snorts; “I should be the one saying that.”

“Yeah, yeah,” you roll your eyes, shaking your head.

“Am I walking you home, or are you coming with me?”

Turning your head slightly, you glance at Lip through the corner of your eye. “Coming with you,” you answer eventually, voice gone quiet. “There ain’t anyone home for me anyway.”

Lip shuffles closer to you, wrapping an arm around your shoulder, pulling you close. “You got me,” he reassures, “all of us. Besides Carl’s been asking for you, he won’t shut up about you.”

Shaking your head, you laugh; “been melting any dolls lately?”

Shoving his hands into the pockets of his jacket, Lip turns his head, eyes falling on the street next to him. “You know him,” he answers, smirking and giving you your answer. “Anyways, you know that, right?” At the look you send him, he elaborates. “That my home is always open to you. You know that, right?”

“Yeah,” you whisper, nodding your head. “I just feel guilty is all. Fiona has enough to stress about, I don’t want her worrying after me.”

“There’s nothing you’ve got to feel guilty about,” Lip comments, briefly glancing at you. “You do enough to help us. Always taking care of Liam, helping us with money, and more. You’ve earned a spot. And it’ll always be there.”

You don’t respond. Lip knows you’re grateful. So, instead, you smile softly to yourself, glancing down at your feet as you and Lip continue to make your way to the Gallagher’s house. It’s not that much longer of a walk, but you can’t help but wish you’d dressed a little more appropriately for the weather. You hug yourself, trying to brace yourself through the cold as you feel your body shiver in response.

Then, before you know, a jacket falls over your shoulders.

Lips parting, you raise your head, meeting Lip’s eyes. “Lip?”

“You’re practically shaking to death,” he says, turning his head away, and you swear you see his cheeks warm, and you know it’s not because of the cold. “You need it a lot more than I do.”

Smiling to yourself, once again, you pull the jacket tighter around yourself, pulling your arms through the sleeves. It hangs a little loosely on you, but it keeps you warm, and you love the familiar scent of Lip that envelops you. After all your years of knowing him, even since you were practically babies, his familiar scent has never changed.

It makes you feel safe. Warmed. Loved.

Soon enough, the two of you arrive at the Gallagher house. Everyone else is already home given that you’d had to stay a little late for a chem test, so, when you walk through the front doors, the house is busy with chaos and chatter. You’re greeted by Fiona who gives you a small hug and a smile Lip’s way, Lip helping you pull of his jacket all the while.

But, before you can even take one more step into the house, the sound of your name being screamed halts you and then there are small arms wrapping tightly around your waist. You stumble back in response, gaze lowering, laughing softly to yourself when you see, of course, Carl, clutching onto you tightly. He pulls back a moment later, smiling brightly up at you.

“Hey buddy,” you greet, grinning down at him as you pat the top of his head. “How have you been?”

“Great!” He exclaims, missing teeth showing as his lips curve into a wide smile. “Even better now that you’re here.”

“Okay, okay,” Lip chuckles, pulling Carl away from you by the shoulders. “Keep your little paws off of her, Carl.”

“Someone jealous?” You smirk, crossing your arms over your chest.

“Of this little shit?” Lip teases, pointing down at Carl who glares up at him. “Oh, a hundred percent. You’re practically smitten with him.” He exaggerates, the teasing nature of his words obvious by the look in his eyes.

Shaking your head, you crouch to Carl’s level, opening up your arms. Lip let’s Carl go, the boy immediately running into your arms once more, and steadying yourself, you pick him up, hugging him tightly. And, as you begin making your way inside, Carl talking your ear off about all the exciting things he’s done since he’s last seen you, your eyes meet Lip who smiling softly over at you.

“I love you,” he mouths, winking.

“I love you too,” you respond, though aloud. “But, not as much as I love Carl.” You poke Carl’s cheek at your words, the usually hardened kid giggling in response, cheeks warming.

“Hah!” Carl exclaims, sticking his tongue out at his brother.

“My heart,” Lip laughs, holding a hand against his chest.

“Be careful, Lip,” you warn teasingly, “little Carl hear may have stolen my heart.”

Winking at you, Lip shrugs. “I’ll just have to take it back later.”

The scene at the start of Prisoner of Azkaban in which Harry accidentally summons the Knight Bus after seeing Padfoot never fails to make me incredibly sad when I think about it. Sirius didn't even want to talk to Harry or try convincing him of his innocence, he just wanted to see him. Sirius had so many chances to try and convince Harry of his innocence, but all he wanted to do was kill Pettigrew and ensure Harry's safety. Him roaming Little Whinging, him hiding under the Quidditch Pitch bleachers during Gryffindor's matches, all he wanted to do was see Harry. He loves Harry so much, my heart aches.
