Object Of Desire/Illusion of Control Opening Reception
Join us for the opening of our next art installation with BCD Volunteer Whitney Evanson! OBJECT OF DESIRE/ ILLUSION OF CONTROL An introspective on: the body, dream symbology, trauma, and reflection of ‘the self’ What is consciousness and how is it defined? What are the limits in the sense of the self and are we more tapped into our subconscious in our dreams? What sort of stimuli, trauma, and subjection of our own version of reality play into our masked versions of ‘the self’ as it is represented to the outside world? “The dream-work [changes] life events into psychic substance by means of imaginative modes-symbolization, condensation, archaisation. [...] It is like the worldwide practice, especially Egyptian, of putting objects from life into the tombs of the dead.” Hillman, J. (1979). The Dream And The Underworld. New York, NY: Harper & Row, Publishers, Inc. This series is focused on these concepts and what layers exist and how they get interpreted, reflected, fragmented, and broken up as they reenter the subconscious. This is a continuation of my work with: the singularity of photography, the mind/body problem, dreams, magick, mysticism, mythology, and the concepts of time and space within photography. Free and open to the public, the opening reception is Thursday, July 18th from 6:30 to 9:30 PM. We hope to see you there for friends, art, and drinks!
