"Do you understand?" Albedo asked for who knows how many times he had already, which you shook your head for the nth time in the past hour.
Albedo took a deep breath and decided to teach you again patiently. You listened to him carefully, slowly digesting whatever the hell he was explaining to you. His wits never fail to amaze you. It also never failed to make you doubt yourself and your abilities and decisions that made you choose this path to be a doctor.
Despite being the same age, Albedo was offered to skip a year of Med school mainly because of his skills, talents, and of course, smarts. Initially, he was offered to skip at least 2 years of study, but he refused โ you can say that he underestimated himself when he told the executive board that he didn't want to lag behind in studies and chose to advance only a year.
While he became one of your inspirations and motivations to keep going, it was hard not to be jealous of him. He's got everything. Looks, smart, has charisma, and he's a really nice person. On the other hand, you feel like an absolute piece of shit, and you are sure that if you flunk your studies now, your future and your family's future will be doomed.
"Y/N? Are you still listening?" Albedo called out with a tired tone. "Let's continue later. Take a rest first."
You mouthed a sorry to him, and he shook his head in return, saying how he noticed how spaced out you seemed.
"Sorry. It's justโฆ I'm worried about flunking studies and losing my scholarship," you answered, fixing your formerly disheveled mess of a hair.
Albedo took your hands in his, "You're doing great." Then, he kissed the back of your hand and rubbed his thumb on it gently.
Despite having experienced that so many times already in the past, it sent shivers down your spine. Why is he making you feel this way?
You looked away, "Thanks, Al."
Albedo stood up and placed his phone on the table. "I'm going to the washroom. Rest for a bit, hm?" You nodded.
You hate yourself for making those moments awkward. You're supposed to be moving on from the past. So, why? Why are you feeling this way? Why is there a feeling of loneliness, and, yet there's a tinge of familiarity in it? You simply want to smash your head on the table at this point.
A buzz had distracted you from your thoughts. Your gaze dropped to Albedo's phone in curiosity as it continued to buzz simultaneously.
Sage
The texter ID says. You looked over Albedo's phone cautiously to check what your brother had been texting him.
"It worked just fine!" One of the messages says.
You were about to grab the phone to read more of the messages, but Albedo arrived and sat beside you. "Something the matter?" He asked.
You shook your head and took a sip from your drink, "Nope. Nothing. My brother seems to be spamming you with messages, though," you laughed.
Albedo let out an 'o' and checked his messages. You looked over his shoulder, "What'd he say?"
"He said his teacher praised him for his science assignment."
You looked at him in confusion. Sage had an assignment? Why didn't you know about it?
"Why didn't he tell me? Did you help him with it?" You asked with a pout.
Albedo chuckled, "Come on, now. For the nth time, I'm not stealing the older sibling role from you," he said as he poked you on the forehead.
"Whatever you say."
You both continued studying โ well, just Albedo teaching you, and you trying your best to get a grasp of the gruesome topic. If you knew the path of being a doctor was this hard, you'd rather jump off from the highest peak of Dragonspine. But of course not โ you have a little brother to care for, debts to pay back to Albedo, a Sucrose to adore, and of course, a Kaeya to hate on.
Speaking of the devil.
"Oh-ho, what's the mighty Y/N doing here?"
That. That annoying voice, annoying personality, annoying face, annoying presence. Everything about him is annoying.
"Fuck off, Kaeya," you didn't even pay him a single glance. Rather, you started packing your things.
"Going already? Why not entertain me a little?" Kaeya sat beside you and looked at Albedo, "Pleased to meet you! Are you Y/N's boyfriend?" He asked with a smug look on his face.
"No," Albedo answered him with a stone-cold face.
You stood up and grabbed Albedo's arm, "Let's go."
Kaeya sighed as he watched you go outside the cafe in a hurry. "What a tough duo."
"Was that Y/N?" Diluc, who just got into the cafe after the small commotion, asked his brother.
"Yeah, she ran away from me with her boyfriend," Kaeya shrugged.
Diluc's eyebrows met, "I didn't know she had a boyfriend."
"You tell me," Kaeya shook his iced coffee, "Why? You jealous?"
"No, I'm not. I don't like Y/N that way," Diluc sat beside Kaeya and looked at the menu. Without meeting Kaeya's eyes, he says, "Maybe you are."
"You sure you're good to be on your own now?" Albedo placed a glass of water in front of you.
You drank it slowly, "Yeah. I can study it now on my own."
"Just call me if you need help. I know you can do it."
"Don't flatter me much. You're a great teacher," you giggled before continuing, "Ever thought of becoming a professor?"
He sighed, "Not once. Ever. My social skills are just as bad as my romance skills."
You hummed, "Hm, sure, sure."
