Really, the meaning behind the flowers sprouting in your lungs was almost pitiably amusing in it’s irony.

The plant, some varieties fittingly named “Dragon’s Breath”, was supposed to represent someone funny. A ‘silly’ meaning, For you, it was anything but. 

And for being called breath, it sure as hell wasn’t letting you breathe. Then again... That part was on you. You’d been afflicted with Hanahaki for a few weeks now, and it was starting to become impossible to even function.

But you just couldn’t do it. You couldn’t bring yourself to remove the blooms clogging your chest. It would mean you’d have to forget him. Forget Raihan and everything he meant to you. Forget how your heart fluttered and a flower or two died off whenever he smiled at you, or wrapped his arm around your shoulders.

You couldn’t. You could never-- T H U D

You were so lost in your own despairing thoughts that you hadn’t even noticed the man himself walk up to you, and you collided with his very solid chest. 

“Woah, Y/N  you’re looking super pale-- You feelin’ alright?” Raihan knelt down a little to be at eye level with you and put his hand to your forehead. “You don’t have a fever or anything...”

Smiling up at him with tired eyes, you gently grabbed his hand from your head and lowered it, taking a few moments to just hold it. To hold him, in any way. “N-No I’m perfectly fine. Just tired, that’s all...”

“I dunno...” The man let out a small huff, not surprised at all about how stubborn you were with your health, “You’ve been acting off for like... A week or two now. Something’s up.”

“I told you, I’m--” You didn’t get to finish your sentence before your chest seized up, and you broke out in a fit of violent coughs, your lungs trying desperately to clear what ailed them.

Despite your best attempts to cover your mouth and hide it, both blood and petals spewed from between your fingers with each cough, landing all over the ground between you and Raihan.

He waited to comment until your coughing had calmed down, and you could breathe well enough to respond again. Raihan’s voice was almost uncharacteristically quiet as he asked you the question you’d been dreading,

“All those petals, and all this blood... That’s... It’s Hanahaki, right? Is that what you’ve been dealing with..?”

You couldn’t bear to meet his gaze, and turned away. Your eyes were teary, whether from the coughing fit, or because you were upset, he couldn’t tell. But your reaction was enough. He knew he was right on the money.

“Who’s it for..? Do I gotta go beat someone up? Cause you know I will. Anything for--”

Your giggle-coughs cut him off, the statement from Raihan managing to make your chest light enough to speak. “No, no i-it’s nothing like... Like that... The only person you need to beat up is me--”

“What?! No, I would never--”

“--Because I can’t believe I thought you didn’t like me back.”

Raihan blinked when you finished your sentence, dumbfounded, “You... You spent two weeks sufferin’ because of me?”

“W-Well, more like because of myself, because I wasn’t thinking...”

“Not thinking is right! I’ve been dropping hints for ages!” He jolted forward immediately, scooping you into a tight hug and whispering into your ear. “I’m just glad I caught you, before it was too late...”

You took in a deep breath, vowing to never take your newly cleared lungs for granted ever again.

Lately there’d been something of a tug on the other end every so often, and it seemed to be more taut, as if there was someone on the other side for once. 🍀 Milo was a little iffy about a vacation at first. He's a man who prefers to keep his two feet planted on the ground, and ground he knows well at that.

But, oh, how can he say no to those puppy eyes you put on?

🍀 You assure him he'll love seeing Alola and what it has to offer. And he's sure he will! If you're this excited about it, it's definitely bound to be more than worth it.
