Another bracelet!
This time I used miyuki delicas and the difference to other beads is obvious.
I'm nit sure if I like the colours. What bothers me most are the blue-tones. It's supposed to be two different blues but the difference between them is almost invisible bc. one of the beads is transparent.

This is a birthday present for an acquaintance.
It's my 3rd woven bracelet and I'm pretty happy about it, despite the irregular beads and mistakes.
You can find the pattern here on braceletbook.com (it's free!)

It's far from perfect but this took so much work, I'm proud of it anyway.
It's meant as a weddinggift since the bride asked for something homemade

Renovating an old bureau
Tumblr media
Before
Tumblr media
After
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since painiting Miniatures and figurines seems to stick as a hobby, I had to find a place where I could paint without getting interrupted by curious cats with an affinity to step in wet paint. Originally I painted on my kitchen table but being the crazy catperson I am, Sona & Lea were allowed to jump on it.
(Also it was kinda tedious to pack everything away the second I needed it for something else)
I got the bureau from ebay for 80€, the guy selling it told me it was custom made by a carpenter over 30 years ago. Considering the amount of spiders and cobwebs it was covered in, I'm inclined to believe him. For some reason the previous owners removed the legs and to use the bureau with my office chair, I had to attach some. And well, in the hardware store inspiration struck and I bought mahagoni coloured varnish to paint it, new brass coloured knobs and a mat especially for cats in the exact same measurments the top of the bureau has. In the end, the bureau probably cost me more like 250€ but then again, it's made from solid wood and definitely has some kinda vibe now. Not sure what vibe exactly, but whatever.
All in all the whole renovation took 3 days, one of them solely for the paint job.
Now all my embroidery boxes and the stuff I bought on a whim and/or for other projects have a place and don't clutter my flat. Yay!

Fili, the Dwarf
Tumblr media
This figurine was from a blind bag. I'm not even sure how I got it or how old it is. This was mostly just a test to try out some paints and brushes since Fili is a bit bigger than normal miniatures. But I'm happy with the result, so here's some more pictures:

Repainting an old Dragon Toy
Tumblr media
This Dragon was one of my first Schleich™ figurines I had and loved it so much. However, I never found these half see-through wings with the red veins very appealing. And so, after 18 years I gave it a make-over.
Here's the Original:

The paints I used are different colors from Army Painter Warpaints on a generous layer of Gesso. It's covered in matt varnish except for the eyes and some other details. It took me over 15 hours to finish this project, but considering my other miniatures this dragon is giant!

This is what happens when you can't find the physical album anywhere to buy and you're forced to download the mp3s from bandcamp and burn a cd yourself because your godfather doesn't know how streaming works.

How it started:
Tumblr media
How it's going:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Really proud of how 🐊Loki turned out.
If you're interested in the process, I wrote it down blow the line.
So, first some things you should know. The crocodile/alligator thing's supposed to be an eraser. I found it, just like pretty much everything else I used, at the german equivalent of a dollar store. Also, I never went near anything remotely close to an art school, so take everything with a HUGE grain of salt.
I know nothing about anything.
At first I tried to sculpt his horns with airdry clay, but that stuff was not working for me at all. It dried to fast, so I added more and more water wich just made a giant mess and long story short, after this I abandoned the idea for a few days.
Until I went to another (german equivalent of a) dollar store and found Polymer Clay. As far as I'm concerned that stuff's amazing. Feels a bit like playdoh and is insanely forgiving. Also not nearly as messy.
I took some clay, put it on the alligator eraser as the headplate and stuck two vaguely horn-shaped wires in the whole thing.
Downside of Polymer Clay? You have to bake that shit. In the oven.
So after a frantic but disappointingly uninformative google search about wether you can stick erasers in the oven without burning your whole house down, I decided to bake my figurine for 5 instead of the recommended 10 minutes. House didn't burn down but since then 🐊 Loki's not sitting on his feet anymore but on his belly. Pretty sure any longer would've melted him at least somewhat.
After everything had cooled down over night, I formed the horns around the wire. That was probably the hardest step for me. They definitely look a bit too chunky and uneven but it was the best I could do without any real modelling tools, experience or talent.
Then, in the oven once more for 5 minutes and letting it completely harden over night.
Tumblr media
At this point I was getting insanely paranoid about the horns. I hadn't baked them long enough and they look so flimsy. I'm still not entirely convinced they won't just spontaneously disintegrate to dust. Especially considering that during my first coating of Gesso, the tip of one horn did break off. That's why the horns in the first pics look even more different.
However, after three thin coats of Gesso, I finally started painting. The colors are custom mixed. I mostly used Foliage Green, Dark Oxide Brown and Black for the body. The first main color-mix was 2:2:1 for the darker base color, for his belly and accents I used a mixture of about 3:1:1. For more details and depth I drypainted those colors in patches on until I was satisfied with the result. His eyes are a 1:1 mix of Foliage Green and Yellowish Green, the teeth are Beige and the horns got a Gold Ocher base coat that was topped with some unnamed gold-copper-metallic mix.
Tumblr media
This step was easily the longest, but other than the constant fear of breaking off his horns it was also quite relaxing.
I let the paint dry and then, finally after working on and off for about two weeks, 🐊 Loki was finished.
I'm not sure I'll ever be painting another eraser but I'm honestly amazed by the outcome.
He's certainly not perfekt but which Loki really is?
