As someone who’s been reading fan fiction since they were thirteen don’t judge me lol. I’m curious what are the icks or toxic traits you have as a reader or even an author?

For me it’s that if a fic has hundreds of thousands of hits and kudos and comments. I’m sorry but if the style of writing isn’t well executed I will not read it. Or if they don’t world build their story and throw everything into the first chapter and don’t flesh it out I’m sorry but I’ll drop it. I hate to do it but I must it hurts more when it’s your fave ship and the plot is incredible 😭.

So what are yours? Again no hateful comments or bashing or disrespect towards the authors or fandoms. This is just out of curiosity.

#when an author referrs to everyone by their hair colors i.e. pinkette ravenette etc #when a character is reduced to That One Trait and left there when others are nicely fleshed out #THE EAVESDROPPING/MISUNDERSTANDING TROPE #i abhor it. i LOATHE it. i despise it with my very being. #ESPECIALLY when the eavesdropper/overhearer/whatever should KNOW BETTER. IT MAKES NO SENSE. #that trope can go burn in a fiery pit for all i care #when a character is ooc for no reason. if it's an au there's some leeway depending on the setting—but not THAT much #also when fanon's butchered characterization is prioritized over canon #like.....if you have to change the character that much just to like them or fit them in a particular ship why are you even here??? #i have many more but i'll cut it here for today 😅 #fanfic #writing
