Wait wait wait! Paleotwitter is obsessing over monstersaurs now? What the hell?
I admit I'm not on every paleo Twitter feed or idea or side or whatever, but never have I seen them gush or obsessing over them. That's very new news to me. From what I have seen and saw paleo Twitter is more judgemental of those kind of saurs. Hell when the feathered dinosaur pack came out everyone lost their minds. There were moments of "they did good but still fucked it up".
When 65 released they lost their collective shit. Everyone was confused and angry and upset. As we saw more of the film and art and so on they just hated it. The designs mostly and the film itself was pretty boring. They could have been unique and stunning but nah.
Never have I see the ear lobes, slurs, sex poses, ect. That is startling to me admittly. And hilarious. I can only imagen what the community is feeling.
I don't what the other park game is or your beef with it is however I will not pry. But I wanna throw my hat and say this.
Some inaccurate animals can be super fun. Remember Disney's carnotaurs?
Tumblr media
Despite it being innacurate as hell and oversized to the point of nearly belonging to Peter Jackson's skull Island it was an awsome creature. It wasn't even evil persay. Just a angry hungry animal that probably would have died from lack of food. The body shape and movements are both right and wrong, the arms, the tail, all of it. And yet it's still an awsome animal.
Some are not so fun. Case in point, the indomitus rex And JWD giga
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's start with indomitus. It's not a dinosaur but a chimera. Dr Wu decided "heck it" and threw in a bunch of DNA into a pot and made this Rudy wanna. (Yall remember Rudy?) An animal that can't even close its mouth properly would probably have been killed by another animal before long, teeth are a mess, and overall, just a test tube monster. A horribly abused angry monster with no expericne of the world and just decides to murder its way to the top.
The Giganotasaurus here is another issue. Wrong location, wrong time zone, and legit looks like a what a crocodile carcaradontasaurus would look like. See giga and trex never would have met. They both filled different jobs in predation. They both were large but giga was still smaller in different ways. Thankfully it's much less of a monster then the indomitus and probably just wanted to chill. It's issue that we had a paleo accurate design and they choose this instead.
My major issue with paleo inaccurate animals is that they are promised to be accurate. Made different to be scary monsters and horrible nightmares. That dinosaurs are monsters, and to ever think they weren't scalie blood drinks is wrong. That scale bros (I don't know what term we use for individuals who perfer scalied bloody dinosaues) will argue and sometimes threaten up and down its this way and science is woke now.
In reality, they just do what animals did. They eat, sleep, play, reproduce, live, and die like all of us. Despite the fact of prehistoric planets' massive splash, we gotta fight again to change the status quo to that of dinosaurs are animals just like any other. It's tiring.
Science and history always shows us new things. Spartan sick children weren't dropped from a cliff but instead left to die in the woods. Tyrannosaurus wasn't a tail dragger but a powerful crushing force of nature. The Egyptian Pharoahs had health issues and weren't as healthy as their statues suggested. Spinosaurus may never have a true apasalute form until we Find an apsalute skeleton.
Dinosaurs are animals. Never monsters. We must accept change to better our view and understanding of the world. We must change to progress.
(Sorry about the rant just never saw Twitter fall back in love and do weird shit to dinosaurs)
We’ve now gone in a full circle with paleotwitter spiralling back into shrinkwrapping and spikes, obsessing over monster dinosaurs and defending them, and adding dumb shit like earlobes to dinosaurs, drawing them in porn poses, and calling pterosaurs slurs, all because some mostly cis straight influencer artists did it.
And on the opposite side you got a fucking Jurassic World game taking inspiration from Prehistoric Planet to just casually add some of the most best depictions of Yutyrannus, Deinocheirus, Sinosauropteryx and Jeholopterus ever made, let alone in video games.
Praying for Frontier to make their own dinosaur game without being chained to the ovewhelming stank of JW and use only their own in house artists and advice from Actual paleontologists and most of all biologists who specialise in living animal anatomy to make it as true to life as Planet Zoo.

Oh it's very iconic. We need more animals with disabilities or straight up deformities. Specially in paleo media. Imagen seeing a perfectly healthy trex, then seeing a taller but thicker and shorter trex with a more box head make it to adult hood.
Also ya you weren't too negative, so you're safe. Critism is needed however its the type that's important. Had you said "THIS TREX IS SHIT AND YOUR BAD" that is bad critsim. However you explained the good and bad and that's excellent!
The roar is majestic and I love it.
What do you think about the walking with dinosaur trex? As a kid I always thought the head looked really boxy, it looks very distinct from other trexes I’ve seen around.
Walking With Dinosaurs Tyrannosaurus is,,,, Bad
Tumblr media
I'm not sure what it is about WWD and large theropods but both the Tyrannosaurus and Allosaurus look really Weird, especially in the head. Allosaurus's horns got placed directly over its eyes, and the whole shape of the head is really triangular.
With the Tyrannosaurus, the head is just. a Block.
Tumblr media
Proportionally it's shorter and thicker than a real Tyrannosaurus skull, and while the shape of the lower jaw is actually pretty close the back of the skull is where issues really start to crop up.
They've ticked all the boxes in the abstract: big brow ridges, wide back of the skull, heavy lower jaw. But the execution of them really falls flat. Mark Witton's reconstruction from the recent theropod lips paper actually makes a very good comparison here since it's almost at the same angle:
Tumblr media
The body itself is oddly proportioned too, with very long legs, and shorter thinner tail, long arms, and a thin neck. Overlaying Scott Hartman's Tyrannosaurus skeletal over the top of it really brings out the Weirdness
Tumblr media
In some areas, like with all of WWD, the inaccuracies here are due to Science Marching On (the lack of lips and the shallower torso due to differently-reconstructed gastralia). But most of the problems with how the head is shaped were just at inaccurate in 1999 as they are now, and it's a little baffling to me how such a famous and well-studied dinosaur ended up looking so... Off?
On the other hand, the actual behaviour of the Tyrannosaurus is fantastically naturalistic, and the colour pattern is very appealing and absolutely iconic. It's just kind of a shame that it got combined with this odd, lumpy anatomy

Hey king. May I throw my hat into this discussion.
There's no doubt they screwed up the anatomy of their tyrannosaurus and baddly. No specifications on if this one is deformed or just normal. The head is wrong, the tail is small and just kinda messy. I will fully give it that. Also the arms were super thin here. They defiantly look like sticks just added on. No muscle or meat on them bones.
However. That color scheme is legendary. By far my favorite tyrannosaurus color scheme and that roar though not accurate at all is amazing. Legit get goose bumps thinking of it. The nature's of the animal is super natural so we agree on that.
I wanna go back to the roar. Despite the fact it didn't sound like it, I find it awesome. It was my favorite dinosaur roar second only to jurassic park 3s spinosaurus. Which for some reason universal can't recreate.
My personal rating on walking with dinosaurs tyrannosaurus. Physically, it's a mess of an animal. A really deformed one that loved to adult hood and had some kids despite the issues. However, her colors, roar, and personality were awesome and awe-inspiring. I'm still super sad when I think of the last episode.
Sorry if I barged my way in. I just saw the post and wanted to add my take.

Why corpos. Why are none of you human.
in the latest cyber-news: the internet archive has lost their case against 4 major publishing houses (verge article). they’re going to appeal, but this is still a bad outcome. the fate of the internet is currently hanging in the balance because 4 multibillionare publishing groups missed out on like $15 of combined revenue during the pandemic because of the archive’s online library service. it’s so fucking stupid.
for those who don’t know what the internet archive is, it’s a virtual library full of media. books, magazines, recordings, visuals, flash games, websites - a lot of these things either don’t exist anymore or cannot be found & bought. heard of the wayback machine? that’s part of the internet archive. it is the most important website to exist, and i don’t say that lightly. if the internet archive goes down, the cultural loss will be immeasurable.
so how can you help?
boycott the publishing companies involved in this. they’re absolute ghouls, frankly, and don’t deserve a penny. the companies involved are harpercollins (imprints), wiley (imprints), penguin random house llc (imprints), and hachette book group (imprints). make sure the websites are set to your location as it may differ worldwide.
learn to torrent. download a torrent client (i recommend transmission), a vpn (i recommend protonvpn - sign up and choose the area that’s closest to your continent/country), and hit up /r/piracy on reddit for websites. with torrenting, you can get (almost) any media you want for free in high quality, with add-ons such as subtitles, and with no risks of loss. i would also recommend getting into the habit of watching stuff online for free. the less you can pay to a giant corporation, the better.
get into the habit of downloading and archiving materials. find a TB external hard drive, ideally the higher the better. it’ll probably cost around $60 for 1TB and continue to go up, but they’re so so useful. if you can’t afford a drive, look for any GB harddrives or memory sticks you have lying around and just fill them up. videos, pdfs, magazines, songs, movies, games - anything you can rip and download and fit on there, do it, because nothing is permanent.
donate to the internet archive. this is the most important option on the list. the IA relies entirely on funding, and it’s going to need more to fight this case. whatever you can donate, do it. i promise it’s helpful.
and finally…

I'm sorry this isn't a dinosaur post or a humans are space ork post or anything like that. I just need someone to know.
For a very long time I've been diagnosed with a combo of PTSD, autsium Spectrum disorder, severe aggressive anxiety disorder, ADD, and sever self terminating depression. What's more is I'm overweight and diabetic. I'm currently having major leg pains and no one is examining my legs. Instead it's always my stomach. And let me tell you it's the worst combo you can ask for in a human being.
I'm always told when I'm depressed in public to "turn it off" or "think something else". It's not like that. There's only two ways I can properly describe it. A inflamed tumor forcing so much mass into that one spot weighing you down as it threatens to rip you apart. Or a terrible storm cloud that turns everywhere you walk into a horrid swamp land that drags you far below any point a human should ever go.
It's not something I can ignore. It's not something I can think away. It stays there. It stays until it decides to calm down. I have no control over it in the slightest. And I'm always expected to.
But of course being the gifted autistic child I'm not allowed to have issues. No one ever outright says it. But I know. I know they want me to be perfect. I know they don't care. And it hurts. It hurts to know that strangers you've never touched or hugged or even physically met care for you. It hurts that someone you consider your adoptive father is the only one who cares for you physically and your terrified of him (thanks bio dad).
I'm sorry for the dark post. I just needed someone to know.

I was actually planning to post this a while ago but decided not to since I couldn't contact wobbly works at the time and afraid of the response.
Raptors can be terrifying. They can range from smol beybey to MURDER MACHINE size. And the famous velociraptor were actually pretty small to what jurassic park taught us. I like to imagen them as prehistoric cats. Especially how they would use their clawed feet.

My cat goku...he's not doing so well
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
See friday we took him to a vet nearby. It was a full body health checkup plus vaccine for rabies. He got his nails trimmed he made friends was all good. However his butt glands were full so the doc emptied them and he wasn't happy. Not snarling but upset enough. He was fine until saturday. (This is yesterday) he was snarling at himself, hissing, attacking himself, his butt, hiding in dark corners, not purring at all. He was eatting and drinking however. I'm really worried and I don't know what the fuck happened.
If he's not well by Monday (tommorow) I'm going right back to the vet and I'm gonna demand to know what the hell happened.
