Thinking pre-timeskip tazmily was some quaint utopia tainted by Porky/capitalism flattens the story quite a bit. In my opinion, the point was since the Tazmilians chose to forget history instead of learn from it, they were susceptible to the same downfalls as before, Porky just accelerated it.

Tazmily likely would have lasted much longer without his involvement, but their ignorance made them easy to persuade into speedrunning inhumane industrialization and consumerism, so they may have made the same mistakes more gradually without his interference.

Isaac is one of the most interesting Tazmily villagers, now that I think about it. He is established very early on as feeling like an outsider, but I didn’t realize how fast he latched onto Fassad because he felt that someone was being nice to him for once. That’s basically what it feels like— Fassad takes advantage of someone who already feels isolated by doing this seemingly very kind gesture (wanting Isaac to be happy and giving him this item which should help him with that– for free!) when it’s all just to manipulate him into listening to Fassad.

Isaac initially seems interested in a Happy Box just for the hell of it, but I think he’s a lot more unhappy than he lets on, and Fassad being nice to him made a major difference in how he feels. It’s a shame that you won’t see this line of him offering to be a follower of Fassad immediately after getting a Happy Box if you don’t go out of your way to look for it, because it sets up a very crucial arc for him later on after the timeskip.

It says a lot that Isaac genuinely thinks that the town (and really, I think he actually means himself more than anybody) is nothing without Fassad. Fassad is the only thing that brings meaning to his life, so he’s latched on intensely to Fassad and to everything he’s brought to Tazmily.

It’s also very interesting if you look at Donna as a foil to him because she’s the other villager who expresses that she was already extremely unhappy here.

But nothing ever seems to make a difference for her. To be honest, she doesn’t seem happy after the timeskip either. She doesn’t have a job, she has no money, so she’s just always sitting around at home, wanting to go to New Pork because there’ll be more happiness there. Nothing makes her happy because, well, materialism isn’t going to solve her depression. Ollie is the same way, to the point that he almost constantly talks about being depressed. In fact, he seems more depressed than he ever was before the timeskip.

But the changes to Tazmily help Isaac because it isn’t the materialism, it’s the fact that he is actually given meaning and community that makes him deeply loyal to Fassad. He feels like he’s finally grown as a person and has found a place in life that is fulfilling to him. However, what it’s really done is make him an arrogant and unkind person.

This is why he ultimately winds up joining the Pigmasks by chapter 8. Isaac is desperate to feel like he fits in, and this is the extreme end to it because his entire village encourages support of Fassad and the Pigmasks. Isaac fits the bill of a loner who is radicalized by extremists since they are the ones to accept and (seemingly, although not really) truly care about him. It’s really sad. I feel genuinely sorry to see Isaac be manipulated in this way. He wasn’t a bad person at first. He was simply a vulnerable person taken advantage of by the worst kinds of people.

There were some people happy but there were underlying issues #Dutybound was named as such because of the examination of the characters relationship with u holding their duties #And why in the end that was destroying them #Flint's duty to find Claus because he is putting the weight of what happened on him #Wess's duty as shishou isolating him from Tazmily and decimating having a healthy relationship with Duster #To which Wess is far too stubborn to give up on his duties #Alec's loss of duty and purpose after Hinawa dies and his farm is destroyed #He finds temporary solace helping Wess with trying to stop Fassad but they have a row over Wess not letting go of that duty to move on #I had a whole ass backstory to Fassad written up exploring a different POV #He was essentially a hero (akin to someone like Ness) who tried to save the world but failed when fighting his inner Mani Mani statue #(symbolizing that he lost his way to greed and selfishness) #So he eventually joins Porky #I'm skimming tho because there's stuff about Ionia and co. as well as giygas in there #Fassad's relationship to duty is one of knowing that what he is doing wrong and not caring #And there being a part deep down that still does. And also he's kinda playing 5D chess with it all. He's got a plan... #Then I had small things for some other villagers #I had a thing about Dona hating her life in Tazmily and Nana interacting with her #Man I really miss working on Dutybound maybe I really ought to work on it again

My headcanons about the Dragos from Mother 3

(This is a repost from my old Tumblr account.)

Drago eggs are green with yellow horizontal stripes.

Dragos love chin rubs, belly rubs, and being tickled.

When a Drago is happy, their ears will twitch in a cute way.

Dragos age very slowly, and have great memory retention.

The Dragos are buddies with the Save Frogs.

Dragos eat grass, like cows. They have nine stomachs.

Dragos are VERY loud snorers. It's a common sight to see them sleeping with their mouths willingly held closed, so they don't annoy the other wildlife. Don't worry, they can breathe through their nostrils 100% fine.

Mama and papa Dragos often carry all their babies around on their backs… in a vertical stack. Thankfully, Dragos have sticky feet, so they can hang on just fine. And the Drago babies frequently get into arguments about whose turn it is to be on top of the stack.

Dragos are warm-blooded rather than cold-blooded, but love sunning themselves anyway, and often fall asleep while doing so.

Despite being mostly nocturnal, Dragos ignore their sleep cycle when humans visit them in the daytime, because Dragos think humans (especially human kids) are super adorable.

The headcanons below contain SPOILERS!

The Dragos are descended from herbivorous dinosaurs, since the Dark Dragon's power protected the Nowhere Islands from whatever event(s) killed all the other dinosaurs.

Lucas helped the surviving Dragos hide from the Pigmasks during the three-year timeskip. After the Earth is finally restored, he visits them frequently.

Hinawa stays good friends with the former Mecha-Drago in the afterlife, and reassures him that she doesn't blame him for killing her while brainwashed.

Ionia and Aeolia are buddies with the Dragos, since they both live relatively close to Drago Plateau. Alec's love for Dragos is one of the main reasons he became friends with the Magi.

Found this while digging around in my old files today! This is the unfinished sketch layer to the 23rd page of chapter 0, featuring some light flirting, haha. The panels read as follows:

Alec: I don't expect to convince you of anything. [break] I only came to find out what makes you tick.

Wess: ...Yeah?

Alec: Yeah. Scope out your morals, get a feeling for what drives you, you know.

Alec [cont.]: Normal first date stuff.

Wess: WHAT?!

Alec: Hahaha, I kid. I kid. [tiny letters, to himself] Mostly.

Alec [cont.]: This won't get anywhere with such a sullen look on your face. [break] I was simply wondering what was really bothering you about all this.

Fun fact! Part of what Alec says in the last panel is a reference to that part in Mother 3 where Alec teams up with Flint to find Claus. I like to interpret Alec's humor as a mechanism for trying to diffuse tension/bad situations, which would have been further explored in Dutybound.

The other fun fact is that this page skeleton is almost 2 years old. Wow 2021 really hit me like a freight train, didn't it.

Gonna crawl out of my hole and make Weslec content to test the site's new tag ban, similar to what I did during the 2018 purge.

In 2018 the site tried to ban a Weslec pic I made of them holding hands (scandalous!) and so- after appealing the post- they unblocked that picture but also unblocked the single actual not safe fw picture that I drew of them, for some reason.

The more I think about the part in chapter 3 where Wess steals the shock controller from Fassad the funnier it gets.

We know from trying to run off as Salsa that Fassad is sleeping with it somewhere on his body (and that it’s probably tentatively underneath his girth), since Fassad shifting around in his sleep causes it to get pushed. And we know that during his antics Wess accidentally drops/pushes it.

So like. There’s a reeeeeeeeally good chance that Wess had to get way too up close and personal with Fassad’s body during his raid and that it wasn’t the controller getting dropped that woke Fassad but rather Wess essentially frisking him down. The idea of Fassad waking up thinking “who in the f*** is running their hands over me?!” and waiting for Wess to finish while pretending to be asleep so that he can smoke out the culprits is absolutely hilarious to me.

I wanted to make a post so that people wouldn't worry about me. So I'll try to make it quick:

I'm not dead, just busy irl! I'm studying to take the JLPT n5 this year so between studying for that, doing daily drawing exercises, and working I've been pretty tired.

^Combined with the above, the last few weeks I've scaled back on using my drawing tablet due to some back problems I was having. Luckily it seems I've fixed the problem by getting a better chair and doing back exercises every day, though that also contributes to how busy I've been.

All that aside, I've been doing good! DutyBound was conceived during a point in my life where I was catastrophically depressed. My life has gotten so much better since then, so I no longer feel pressured to constantly create. Which sounds like a bad thing, but it's not! My mental health is so much better so I don't have to be afraid that I'm going to die before DutyBound becomes a reality. I get to share my joy with the world at my leisure, and that's a wonderful thing :3

Bit by bit I've been chipping away at DutyBound. All currently published pages should be considered beta pages, though- that stuff's gonna get scrapped. So I guess what I'm saying is not to expect to see any pages any time soon.

I still draw all sorts of DutyBound doodles all the time. My notebook has all sorts of gay cringe Weslec crap. I'm having fun.

I feel less pressured to provide context for my DutyBound stuff, so maybe I'll try to post more nonsensical art here.

Tldr; I'm busy but my mental health is doing great. DutyBound is getting slowly overhauled but I'm just having fun doodling whatever and making it the world's problem. I'm having a good time and hope that anybody out there is having a good time, too.

I started writing terrible fanfic on AO3 classified as “bad fanfic fridays” because my fear of writing is what’s making my progress creating DutyBound nonexistent. So I’m trying to regularly post fanfic to get better at writing.

Should I make Mother 3/DutyBound bad fics? I’ve got multiple ideas for Mario-based stories but maybe I should do some Mother 3 ones too.
