You don't realise how strong love is until you experience it, it's pull almost gravitational, shifting you into orbit around the subject of your affections. How 'I'll factor you into my future' becomes 'actually, you are my future.' How dreams of domestic life shift from an unknown face to theirs.

Everything is about them. You stop drinking coffee because they don't like the smell, stop smoking because the concern on their face when you pick up a lighter twists your heart. You can find other ways to destress, because hurting them stresses you out even more.

There's a balance to be found, between your life and theirs, the necessity of compromise vs twisting everything to suit their needs. Healthy vs unhealthy. But once you've found that balance, the pieces fall into place, sometimes with a little pushing. Love isn't easy, but it's strong. It holds onto you as much as you hold onto it. Keep holding.

In a world where "I love you" doesn't exist, I say "You're shivering, take my jumper. It absolutely swarms you but you look adorable like that." I say "The smile on your face when you're singing is the 8th wonder of the world" and "the way you whisper my name in the middle of the night is the only music I ever want to hear again." I say "Here, taste this, I think it's missing something?" because you're the only person I trust to try a recipe I haven't perfected yet. I tell you I wouldn't sacrifice you to save the world, because a world without you in it wouldn't be worth a sacrifice so great. I tell you that the feeling I get when I look at you is warmer than every star in existence, that the universe may be expanding but my heart is surpassing it, that if I had a word for these feelings then I wouldn't use it because one word can't describe it properly, all the words in every language ever spoken couldn't scratch the surface. I say that I understand Menelaus now, because Helen couldn't even be half as beautiful as you, and I would risk every army in the world to rescue you from Troy.
