The one thing I learned from studying the Vietnam War is that anti-war movements are a great catalyst for broader systemic change. Every major movement in the 60s and 70s was closely tied to the anti-war movement. In many groups, their civil rights/environmental activism and anti-war activism was one and the same. Because all of this is connected. The same people who deny women their bodily autonomy, deny black, gay, and trans people their right to fully participate in public life, who allow corporations to exploit their workers and poison the environment, are the same people who bomb helpless civilians in foreign countries. All of these struggles are connected. And a government that expends enormous energy trying to fight a war overseas while simultaneously stifling activist groups and mass demonstrations at home is going to exhaust itself, and will eventually buckle if it doesn’t compromise.

fewer posts about “why do straight women date men who hate them” and more posts about “why do so many men hate women that it’s genuinely difficult for straight women to find romantic & sexual intimacy with a man who doesn’t hate them”
