I may get so much hate for this but I need to say it.
Percabeth ended in Tartarus.
Hear me out. So far they were cute and lovely (maybe aside from first book where Annabeth was unnecessarily mean to Percy) so for me it would be an endgame. Even if I were a little concerned about the fact that their feelings might be based on mutual trust in eachother and their abilities and not necessarily love or some other positive emotions/feelings that are not connected to the fact that they were constantly fighting for their life together (something like relationships of convenience if you know what I mean).
So it was all fine until the Tartarus part.
I admit it was straining for both of them physically, emotionally and mentally. They went through so much that it still amazes me that they were ready to continue the quest. But in Tartarus they also reached their breaking point for example Percy's fight with Achlys. This is the part that bothers me the most. To protect himself and Annabeth (but mostly her, let's be real) he was fighting goddess of misery while being hurt, tired, hungry and thirsty. He gave his everything to make sure that they'll stay alive and I feel like Annabeth didn't appreciate it as she should. I get it she was scared of him, was overwhelmed from everything. I really do. But after it she made him promise to never again take control over poison DURING WAR. It might have been some slip or bad choice of words on her part but the fact that she didn't stop to think about it later really bothers me.
Girl you're in middle of war and hell and yet you make your protector promise to not use a power that may save ton of lifes. Why didn't she make him promise to not use it unless to protect himself or someone else? Why take away from him one of the means of protection?
And the worst of it is fact that Percy kept his promise during fight with Polybotes or while freeing (dunno if it's a right word) infected Nymphs. Those were situations in which his and other people's life were in danger and yet he consciously chooses death to breaking his promise.
Such thoughtlessness from Annabeth is what broke this ship for me. She ignored that he saved her (and it's somehow valid when I think under how much stress she was), made him make a promise that endangered him and other people AND later on while talking with Piper (who she knows didn't have high or positive opinion on Percy) agreed that he need to be controlled.
Just thinking about it makes me sick and I can't look at them (at her) the same. If they at least at some point came back to this promise and reworded it or something then it would be different. But they didn't. And it hurts.
If you don't agree with my opinion and want to discuss it or anything please stay respectful💜
Have a nice day everyone

actually I also wanna talk about the part where Percy convinces Bob to kill Hyperion because even though Percy never says anything outright sinister, the way he handles the entire situation with such cool ease, playing on Bob’s emotions... its so insane???
Because Annabeth’s reaction to the three of them encountering Hyperion reforming is: “oh this is bad we need to get out of here” She knows if Bob remembers himself, that it's not going to play out well for Percy and her. She also thinks about how they're being pursued and don't have a lot of time. Her solution to the problem, seemingly, is to leave.
But Percy's solution is to work the situation to his advantage. He re-affirms Bob's loyalty to him:
Tumblr media
Percy then re-establishes Bob's moral code: "Some monsters are good. Some are bad. This Titan is bad. He tried to kill me and a lot of people. He's not good like you are."
And it ends with Percy leaving the choice of whatever to do with Hyperion to Bob but of course, is it really what Bob chose to do? Bob decides to kill Hyperion. It's not what he may have done, if Percy hadn't intervened. But it's exactly what Percy was oh-so-sweetly leading Bob to do.
And listen, I'm not claiming that it was exactly morally bankrupt of Percy to take advantage of a once-evil titan who could get him and his girlfriend through hell in one piece. Percy, Annabeth, they manipulate monsters and enemies all the time. Annabeth ended the previous book with manipulating Arachne into weaving her own web. So it's not exactly like she's against using manipulative tactics, in theory.
But Bob, at this point, is not just some monster. He is so painfully sincere in his belief in Percy and their friendship, so yes, it does feel a bit sinister whenever Percy uses Bob... and he really uses Bob.
And I think what makes the scene so unsettling, it isn't just that Percy manipulated Bob, its how well Percy manipulated him. He manipulates Bob so well that Percy doesn't even have to kill Hyperion... because Bob does it for him. He manipulates Bob so well, that Annabeth couldn't tell if Percy was purposefully trying to manipulate the situation. (Newsflash, he most definitely was). Like holy shit.

My boy IS obsessive like have you been paying attention to the way he acts around Ash? This is cannon and we need to accept it
Just a thing with Aidlyn, he's a little obsessive here tho, so...be warned ":>
They're a bit older, enough to drive/get a driver's license.
Aiden took a long, deep drag of his cigarette, the fumes burning his throat, before letting the smoke billow out of the corners of his mouth, like a dragon, the heat a warning of something worse to come. Of course, it was disgusting. It was rare for him not to find himself disgusting.
Epinephrine
"That's disgusting."
He'd quit, if she asked. But she hadn't used those specific words yet, so. "I know."
Ash tucked a bright red tendril of hair behind her ear- God, he loved her hair, he had a lock of it home, but, she didn't need to know that- while sighing. "So, what? You just came on my porch to smoke like an asshole?"
He let himself frown at that. It was a strange, awkward motion that felt wrong on his face, but, he was trying to be more honest with his emotions around her, because she didn't like his 'mask', as she had bluntly put it. "You weren't picking up my calls."
She groaned, putting her fingers to her temple and the bridge of her nose. It was a gesture he saw a lot of, especially directed at him. His mother, disappointed. His dad, frustrated. Ben, irritated. And now, Ashlyn as well.
What am I doing wrong? Why can't I get it right? What do you want, and how can I give it to you?
"I didn't pick up because I was upset with you."
Duh. He wasn't that stupid.
"I'm sorry. Again." He meant it, too. He was so fucking sorry all the time. He knew he was...difficult, to handle. But he didn't know any other way of being. She was a goddamned Saint for putting up with him, honestly. He genuinely wanted to kill himself whenever she was mad at him. Why even live if she wasn't going to be around him?
St. Ashlyn of Alto, Patron of Patience and Fuck Ups.
For some reason, his apology seemed to have the opposite effect it had intended. "Sorry? Are you joking right now?
It would be a lousy fucking joke if he was. "I'm serious, I'm sorry. I...I messed up- again. I just...I don't know-"
Ash crossed her arms, and he thought for a second how unfair it was that she still looked so pretty when she was so pissed off at him. "Aiden, you can't just go on joyrides after a binge! You could've killed someone!"
He took another drag, his jaw clenching painfully.
"You- You could've killed yourself." There was a note of desperation in her tone, one he was intimately familiar with. She loved him. He could hear it in the nervous tremor in her voice whenever that desperation spilt into her words. His heart skipped a beat, went all aflutter, something sufficiently ridiculous and enamoured.
He did a lot of things that could get himself killed.
It was always just for fun. But nothing beat the high he felt when she looked at him with those eyes, wide and pleading. Adoring. For a few, heartache inducing seconds, it almost seemed to him that she loved him the way he loved her.
But always after, she pulled away. Cold and guarded like when they'd first met. It was horrible, if that look was like hitting a high, that cold-shoulder was like the worst kind of crash. Worse than a hangover, worse than detoxing, worse than any pain he'd gone through in his life.
The closest word he could compare it to was soul-crushing. And even then, he didn't think it quite measured up to how he felt.
"Forgive me, please." Abruptly, he pulled her into his arms, sinking his nose into her hair. She smelled nice, he didn't know like what exactly, but it was nice.
He felt her body stiffen uncomfortably for a moment, before relaxing into his touch, a long, drawn-out sigh escaping her lips. It was a tired sigh, the sigh of somebody burdened heavily, but completely resigned. "...Give me some time."
But she still wrapped her hands around his waist, and already warmth rushed through his veins, her fingers causing goosebumps to rise over his skin. A shiver crawled slowly up his spine, both delighted and disturbed. He hugged her a little tighter, dug his nails into the fabric of her shirt, like she'd slip through his hands if he wasn't careful.
She will, if you aren't careful. Get it together.
"We have all the time in the world," he murmured, soft and still, but he knew she would hear him.
She leaned up towards him, balancing gracefully on the tip of her toes, and fixed him with a hard, angry stare. "Seriously, if you do that again, I'll kill you myself."
His heart stuttered, erratic and unsteady. He thought of her pinning him to the cold ground, a knife to his throat, her eyes as dark as the sky above them. And she looked beautiful back-lit by the stars, the blade gleaming.
You could. You could, and I would let you.
"I'll behave, scout's honor." He crossed an X over his heart and cracked a smile at her. To his relief, she smiled back at him.
(Well, it wasn't really a smile, but at least she wasn't scowling anymore.)
"I doubt it," she answered, but there was no malice in her voice. Only something ironic.
"Maybe I need an incentive?" He was probably pushing his luck, but it didn't hurt to try-
Ash looked at him strangely, in a way he couldn't read. "...Alright."
She rested her hands on his shoulders and pulled him towards her, their mouths meeting clumsily, uncoordinated. Inexplicably, she tasted like candy.
Heart palpitations. Arrhythmia. Dizziness. Accelerated breathing. What are these the symptoms of?
He kissed her a little more forcefully, a gnawing hunger growing in the pit of his stomach, and he waited for the sugar-rush to hit him.

Gonna throw up If I can't talk about them-
Bunch of Aiden analysis under the cut because he's just SO OBSESSED CODED AND NOBODY TALKS ABOUT IT 😭 (I will be very weird about it)
The way it's so doomed from the start. He's already so fascinated by her. It's in the little jump he does when she sits in front of him, like a secret they're both in on, like her sitting in front of him is some obscure way of her inviting him into a conversation.
Tumblr media
Why is he like this (not positive but not negative either)
He has such a cocktail of personality traits and, most certainly, mental disorders, and his own history that makes it so, when he's in love, that it WILL blow up in his face.
The fact that he's been homeschooled for his entire life- he has no idea. HE DOESNT EVEN KNOW. He doesnt realize that its not normal. of course he doesn't :( His parents obviously leave him alone for long stretches of time and he doesn't seem to mind this. He hasn't had the chance to develop his social skills at all-
It's why he's so, let's be real, creepy. Ash makes it very clear she's not interested and he just keeps worming his way into her life. He plots so that she'll go on the field trip, he follows her around, he goes to her fucking house on the first day. LIKE, HELLO? RED FLAG?
He's having evil thoughts here I swear 💀
Tumblr media
And already so quickly after meeting her he makes Ash his priority. He asks to sit next to her, he engages and makes an effort to talk to her. Tries to joke around with her. Gives her a nickname. Touches her. He's so touchy.
And defends her!!! When Tyler gets pissed at Ash, he honestly goes off on him even tho he KNOWS Ash can defend herself- and he's so...dark about it. There's a threat hidden behind his words. He's MAD here, right? Tell me I'm not crazy, please-
Tumblr media
He also very clearly has violence on the forefront of his mind 💀 He's the first one to actively attack the phantoms; not to defend himself, not to defend somebody else (well, he pulls Ash out of the way), but for fun. And he's disappointed when they don't scream. He's sadistic, he likes causing pain, it's something he relishes in.
I mean look at how he smiles!!! None of the other kids have such an...active ENJOYMENT in fighting the phantoms, but for Aiden, it's almost like he finds relief in it, some way to vent out his frustrations. He's eager for a fight, for a thrill.
Tumblr media
That's how Aiden sustains himself, he pretty much operates under "I'm here for a good time, not a long time." Everything he does gives him a boost of adrenaline, no matter the consequences. He got into a fight? Eh, who cares about all the bruises, at least it got his blood rushing. Broke a bone while doing parkour or smth? Whatever, the way his stomach dropped when he was falling as totally worth it.
It's a very dangerous mentality to live with, obviously. He's an adrenaline junkie. He's an addict. More than anything else, Aiden wants something that makes him feel alive.
And what makes you feel more alive than love?
Like not to minimise or anything but he's known her for like. 2-3 months- and he's already SO scared of losing her. Like I just don't think he would have had this type of reaction with anybody else besides Ben. He would have absolutely lost his shit if Ash 'died'.
Tumblr media
He's a straight up love junkie. He's obsessive. Nothing beats the high love can give you. It overrules everything else. If Ash (or whoever he's interested in) feels bad because of smth, he's done with it.
He LIKED dying. He LIKED the adrenaline rush. But he won't do it again. Not because he had some realization that he didn't want to die, that he still wanted to live and do things, but because Ash was upset. Because this, this rush of care from her part, the way she was so scared of him dying that she was shaking, nothing could fill the hole in his heart better than that. And now that he has a taste for it, he won't let go easy. He will keep on living- if it means Ash will be by his side.
Tumblr media
Which is a very dangerous position to put her in. Ash already feels responsible for her friends, and she doesn't even know that Aiden has "put" his life in her hands, not that it's her responsibility, because it isn't, but she will certainly feel responsible if Aiden does something FOR her.
Like He's so fucking obsessed and he doesn't even realize it- like look at how he sees her 😭 THE HEAVENLY GLOOOOOOW, LIKE SHES AN ANGEL AND HE THINKS SHE CAN SAVE HIM. BABY SHE CANT, YOU HAVE TO SAVE YOURSELF.
Tumblr media
He could spiral so fucking bad. He could do some absolutely heinous things. Because he just doesn't know. He doesn't know how to love truly, yet. For him love really is that rush of adrenaline, the knife carving out his heart, he could be putty in her hands, or her executioner. This love that can be so obsessive, that he NEEDS it to function, like its water, like its the air he breathes. Its a compulsion, a fixation, a longing that burrows into your very soul. Ash doesn't even know what she's getting herself into-
Godddddd, it makes me so sick/ pos, it's SO FUCKING INTERESTINGGGGGG. I LOVE THEM SO MUCH.
I literally cannot function around this drawing 🫠
Tumblr media
The. The hand. That way he's grabbing her. He's pulling her back. Towards HIM. like "this is mine. And I'm not sharing." And that little fucking look in his eyes, he just looks SO fucking pleased with himself. And Ash looks so...resigned. they're so doomed-coded, i love them so bad.
I don't know how I was supposed to NOT make a killer au, when he's just...like that around her.
Love is a wonderful thing. But love is also cruel, it is vicious, it is possessive and obsessive, and it will leave carnage in its wake.
Romantic love is an obsession. It possesses you. You lose your sense of self. You cannot stop thinking about another human being. -Helen Fisher

Dark Percy Jackson, Percy has god like powers, Scared Annabeth Chase
Tartarus had its own rules. Fire was drinkable. The ground was the body of a dark god. The air was acid, and demigods could be turned into smokey corpses. Compared to that, the idea of controlling poisons was… easy. Percy glared at the poisonous lake around him. He focused, and reached with the part of his mind that allowed him to control water. The poisonous tide stopped. The fumes blew away from him and back towards the goddess. The lake of poison rolled toward her in tiny waves and rivulets. Akhlys took a hesitant step back. “What is this?!” She looked alarmed, scared even. Percy thought it was a good look on her. “Poison,” Percy snarled at her. “That’s your specialty, right?”

Also the fact that in space is cold (as there's no warmth) could be a big factor in him enjoying interactions with spirits or being in celestial world
GrayLu Brotp Headcanons
Gray plans on stealing the raws of Lucy's upcoming novel and perhaps he'll sell it to Levy if she pays him enough jewels 'cause why not. BUT only after he finishes reading them.
He hates spoilers, thinking he won't be able to sleep for days wondering what actually happens in the story. And so Lucy loves spoiling him about the new characters and twists. She enjoys it when he tries to run away.
Once in a while he joins Lucy in her baking practice and they both pass their time cracking jokes and laughing their ass off. Ofc until Natsu and Happy come barging in.
Gray always compliments her cooking regardless of their taste. When Lucy accidentally burns the food, he's there to cheer her up.
Since Gray and Loke are really good friends, man often accompanies Lucy to the celestial world. He loves interacting with the other spirits.
They take classes on interior designing together.
Since both have good fashion senses, they often go shopping together. Gotta be trendy!
I'll add more later hehe :)

Their relationship in first movie makes me so sad because I know that they both tried at some point, they really tried but it didn't work out so they gave up.
I feel like Hiccup, after meeting and befriending Toothless, finally gave up on chasing impossible expectations that first people around him and later on he had put on himself. He didn't feel the need to fit in their idealistic model of chief's son and decided to become himself but still somehow didn't want to disappoint Stoic, the only family that he had left.
In Stoic's case I feel like raising basically an infant, ruling the Berk and dealing with loss of his wife was too much. Because of lack of time and strength he couldn't bond properly with Hiccup especially seeing how similar he was to Valka. I think that he also put all those expectations on his son to protect him from being week and getting killed like his mother. It's also the fact that he didn't understand the "weakness" of Hiccup which was such a big part of him so Stoic didn't know how to approach him. So when he finally saw the gate between them being slightly open and wanted to use this opportunity to finally bond with Hiccup he was met with rejection. He was being once again the outsider, a man who didn't know how to talk which his own son and that must have been truly heartbreaking.
I think that this scene shows two people who tries to move on from the past but the past is still present in the back of their mind. Hiccup want to move forward from being a people pleaser, from using all his might to not be a disappointment but can't make himself to be honest with his dad and be himself. Stoic on the other hand tries make the rift between them smaller, wants to leave all those silent, lonely years behind but his son hasn't changed that much and there's still too much things that are unsaid to go on with their life.
I hope it somehow makes sense
Stoick’s face falling, when he’s like ‘we finally have something to talk about’ and Hiccup is silent, will never not hit me in the heart.
Stoick is absolutely in the wrong, but it’s scenes like that, that show he does care about Hiccup, he’s just not good at expressing it and hasn’t accepted Hiccup being himself quite yet. He still holds onto the old ideologies and hope that Hiccup will be his kind of Viking. He’s excited cause he thinks he’s got that now (especially after years of not), he can understand Hiccup, they can be a real father and son, they can communicate. That dream is suddenly coming true. Then Hiccup doesn’t reply and there’s that little moment of realisation that the obvious rift between them still exists. He obviously is still keeping his hope as the scene continues but that moment of his face falling and the awkward tension coming back, bringing him back to the reality between them. It hurts so much.
It’s also sad since it highlights to Hiccup, that his dad wouldn’t accept him as he is yet. He’s stuck on the vision of the perfect child that Hiccup isn’t. He can’t respond because how can he when they barely talk as is, and now he’s keeping a secret so big? There’s a bit more to it on Hiccup’s side, but Stoick’s reaction to his silence is really what gets me. He doesn’t know Hiccup can’t just tell him the truth, to him it’s just the plain old usual rift and Hiccup not being comfortable talking (or knowing how to talk) to him about something that could bring them together. From his perspective, in a way, it’s a rejection.
I think it’s such a real thing between parents and children. It’s just such a real and hard hitting one second moment in a real and hard hitting scene.

Oh god I love how teenagersy they are here
Especially with chicken shrine and the grimborn brothers
I just love it
my silly little httyd headcanons!! (mostly the rtte gang)
hiccup always has scrap metal on him to fiddle with.
the hierarchy of the dragon riders' cooking skills: 1) heather (obviously, it's practically canon), 2) snotlout (his mum taught him), 3) fishlegs (idk he seems like he'd stress bake), 4) hiccup (he was left alone often as a child. he had to fend for himself. we've seen him cook multiple times. it fits, for me), 5) tuff (he's not the best, but it's better than ruff's), 6) ruff (she refused to learn how to cook. she had to be practically held down in order to learn. she refuses to practice the skill), 7) astrid (you don't wanna eat it. seriously. just, don't.)
snotlout once caught fishlegs reading a book to his plants. he asked why, and fishlegs was like "bc it makes them grow faster". snotlout's reply was a snort. "no, you idiot. they grow faster if you sing to them!!" so snotlout taught fishlegs the best songs to sing to flowers, courtesy of mama snot.
spitelout gets NO BITCHES. the only reason mama snot is married to him is bc of arranged marriages.
astrid sleeps with a knife under her pillow. and an axe. oh, and a random piece of sharp scrap metal that hiccup gave to her as a birthday present. she hoards it like it's her greatest treasure.
on the edge, they 100% played a weird viking version of smash or pass with their enemies, both past and present. the arguments got very, very heated.
there is a swear jar. the main people who put money into it are hiccup, astrid, ruff (though she tries - and succeeds - to not get caught), and, on a rare occasion, fishlegs. mama snot didn't raise snotlout like that. tuff just prefers to say outlandish, completely random things in the place of swear words.
if they played genshin impact, their mains would be as follows: hiccup is a layla main. astrid is a kuki main. tuff is a hu tao main. ruff is a lisa main. fishlegs is a freminet main. snotlout is a ganyu main.
as an elaborate prank, no one in the gang tells fishlegs everything he did as thor bonecrusher. they leave out key details. they make up stories. the whole of berk is in on it. they watch on, amused, from the sidelines. a villain will mention something he did as thor and he'll be like, "um??? wdym???"
there was an argument over which grimborn brother would make a better partner. some (astrid, fishlegs) refused to participate. team viggo consisted of hiccup ("he's smart, he's attractive, and he'd keep me on my toes"), ruff ("what can i say? i like 'em pretty"), and heather ("idk he seems a little traumatised.. can relate"). team ryker consisted of snotlout ("he's a warrior!! also he wouldn't manipulate me like my dad"), and tuff ("i just want to spite ruff. also, he'd be pretty fun to annoy"). borders were drawn. essays were written, as were poems. speeches were made. dragon hunters were very confused when one of the grimborn's would do something, only for one of the dragon riders on their team to loudly exclaim, "SEE?!", and gesture exasperatedly at the non-believers.
spitelout once gave snotlout a "gift", which was massively hated by both him and the riders. they burned it, laughing all the while, as the twins proclaimed it as a sacrifice to loki.
tuff bites. hard.
when stressed, the riders will talk to chicken. but like, by force. you're sad? BAM. a chicken, right there. she will follow you. everywhere. and unless you want to reveal to your (very protective) friends that you are sad, you confess to the chicken. she doesn't tell anyone. she's essentially their therapist.
there is a shrine to chicken, which is annually moved. the first time the dragon hunters took over the edge, they jumped at the sight of it. rumours began that the riders were part of a cult. once, gobber screamed at the sight of the shrine in the spare room of the forge. when asked why, all the riders have a different response. it ranges from ominous (ruff, tuff, snotlout) to awkward (fishlegs) to downright gaslighting them into thinking it isn't real (astrid, hiccup). they only stop after gothi almost has a heart attack when she comes across it one day and stoick calls off their shenanigans. please hiccup. she's so old.
the dragon riders all share their things. the twins, however, often take things they shouldn't. they're the equivalent of the communist bugs bunny meme. they're not your socks, fishy, they're our socks!
they have days where they swap dragons. i know this happens in the show from time to time, but i mean like, an actual arranged date where they pull straws and see which dragon they get. astrid and windshear are known to be a dynamic duo, as are heather and stormfly. tuff works well with toothless. there has not yet been a dragon that hiccup has struggled to bond with. i doubt there will ever be one.
they have a chart of people, ranked by levels of seductiveness. ruff and tuff made it for laughs. they don't actually use it. it's funny when the dragon hunters discover it, though, and think "oh my gods, this is how they're gonna get info out of us!!" viggo knows it's a joke. he guessed ages ago. he thinks it's funny, though, so he tells no one.

happy pride month you beautiful wonderful fucks!! 🏳️‍🌈
in honor of pride month here’s some wolfstar and jegulus as they are my current top ships:
*the marauders + regulus all sitting in the common room*
James, writing a last minute potions essay and absentmindedly trying to get regulus’s attention: hey love?
Sirius and Regulus, both looking up from their books: hmm?
Sirius, looking at regulus startled: why did you look up?
Regulus, who just realized he and James gave themselves away: •_•
James, who also just realized this: •_•
Sirius, who’s looking between the two and putting the pieces together: whY DID YOU LOOK UP REGULUS
Regulus:
James:
Peter, who figured it out weeks ago:
Remus, who also figured it out a while back, deciding to make sirius forget about it so they can stay a secret: hold on, sirius. you’re ignoring a very crucial part of this.
Sirius: what??
Remus: why did YOU look up?
Sirius: because james is my unofficial wife obviously.
Remus: uh huh, then what does that make me?
Sirius: my unofficial husband, come on remus we’ve been over this a dozen times by now.
Remus: I want an unofficial divorce.
Sirius: nope sorry, you’ve already unofficially divorced me once this week, you can’t do it again
Remus: why not? if we’re unofficially married then i can unofficially divorce you and remarry you as many times as i want
*commence sirius and remus bickering like an old married couple*
Regulus and James: *deep synchronized sighs of relief as they smile at each other*
Remus: *secretly smiles watching them together while sirius goes off on a tangent about their unofficial divorce*
Peter, who’s bored and also wants to annoy sirius whenever he has the chance: i, as your side hoe, also want a divorce
Sirius: wha-

i know we joke that james only falls for people that are mean to him but guys that’s so??? like that’s so sad???
i don’t know how to explain it but it’s just that james has been so, so loved his entire life by his parents and by the people that surrounded him and it’s like… why wouldn’t he want the same treatment from a partner?
but then it hit me that he might think that acting nice and spoiling him are just what’s *expected* of people. he never knows if it’s genuine or if they’re just like “oh there’s james! we better act nice!”
so when people are just mean to him… james knows it’s genuine? like it’s from them, and them only. and maybe that’s what makes the difference.

there are two types of children who come out of abusive homes. Sirius and Regulus are them, that’s why they are always at odds.
Sirius knows how precious sleep is, he can sleep anywhere anytime at the drop of a hat
Regulus can’t let himself sleep. Even safe and alone he feels so uncomfortable and can’t sleep until his eyes droop and he can’t fight anymore
Sirius’ rage turns hot and passionate, an angry fire blazing
Regulus’ rage turns cold and calculate, concentrated into fine points of cruelty
Sirius feels everything all too much, consuming all of him until he cannot feel himself anymore
Regulus feels so little that he cannot navigate his own emotions, and when he feels something strong it consumes every part of him
Sirius begs for contact and touch with everyone he knows, to confirm they are there, and to soothe him
Regulus’ skin pricks when he is touched, no matter how much he loves them. He can’t handle close proximity
Sirius hides his pain with a smile
Regulus hides behind dead eyes
and yet they are still, two scared and traumatised boys, hiding.
they hid in that house, and they hide now, with the people they love most.
because that’s the Black brothers. they hide.
because they don’t know how to be found.
but they’re begging
they are begging to be found.

Even Now.
Regulus stands a few paces back, dawning waterlogged robes. His eyes lay not on James but on a bright star. Their star.
“Don’t marry her,” he tells the star, but he is speaking to James.
James startles; he did not notice Regulus from where he is fiddling with the cufflinks his mother gifted him for the wedding. “What?” he asks incredulously.
Regulus turns slowly, his gaze heavy when it finds James’. “Don’t marry her,” he repeats simply.
He begins approaching James, whose hands grow restless from their inability to touch. “Why?” he begs for the thousandth time. Regulus doesn’t respond. He never did.
“Why?” Regulus scoffs. “You know why.” He arches an elegant eyebrow that James’ hands beg to trace.
He twists the cufflinks instead. He has learned it’s better to keep his hands to himself when Regulus visits.
When he doesn’t entertain Regulus with an answer, something longing, something hurt flickers through his gaze. His eyes and their boundless emotions used to drive James mad in a way that was not rooted in anger. Now, he understands that the roots were always there but were mere seeds then. Seeds whose tendrils slowly snaked and spiraled into the ugly anger James feels now, being mocked by Regulus’ doe eyes once more.
“No.” He laughs derisively. “No”
“Yes,” Regulus responds as if it is simple. As if James will continue to bend to his every command. He won’t; not anymore.
“No. Reg—Regulus, you’re being mean. Stop it,” James implores because his impulses are begging him to bend even now.
“How am I being mean?” Regulus folds his arms and tilts his head, droplets of water taunting the grass by dissipating above its surface.
“Reg—“ James beseeches. Regulus moves closer, and James’ hands twitch with a desire to touch. To reach. To save. Even now.
Regulus’ hand ghosts his cheek and James’ eyes well with angry tears, though he is not sure it is Regulus he is truly angry at.
“You always liked that I was mean, baby.” Regulus’ eyes are round and guileless as his hungry fingers delicately trace his face.
James shudders. He shakes and he resists and he bends over. James folds, tucks his arms into his body, and squeezes his eyes shut, pressure mounting like an ear on an incline until…
Pop.
“I did!” James shoots upright, fists swinging at his sides as he faces Regulus head-on. “I do! But you’re not here, so stop it!” he screams.
Regulus frowns in that lazy way of his that plagues James with memories of a life past. It infuriates him to remember. He doesn’t want to remember, but Regulus will never let him forget.
“Just stop it!” he cries, breath hitching as he folds over and shields his head with his arms.
When James looks back up, Regulus is gone. It’s so sudden that he spares a confused glance around until he realizes what Regulus has done. He left without saying goodbye. Regulus likes to taunt him for this. He is devotedly vindinctive and always visits but never lets him say goodbye. Even in death, Regulus is still mean. And despite his death, James still loves him. Even now.

a lil mini make up after a fight. it kind of hurt inside to write this, and i think it’s more hurt/comfort than fluff, but it technically isn’t angst?

Harry’s Boggart
So I think it’s actually canon that Remus says Harry’s biggest fear is fear itself. He says this because Harry’s Boggart is a dementor, but I actually don’t think this is accurate.
If Harry’s biggest fear was fear then his boggart would probably have changed from one scary thing to the next. Changing just fast enough that Harry would never be able to conjure up a funny image. This would ensure that he would be trapped in fear. Or something of the like.
But this is not the case. Harry’s boggart isn’t fear, because a dementor is not the personification of fear it’s the personification of misery.
This is could be explained in different ways. Like maybe his history at the Dursleys is a trigger, as that was pretty god damn miserable for Harry all around. But I think it has more to do with the memory that the dementor is able to bring up in Harry.
Because, honestly, is there anything more miserable than the only memory you have of your parents being them saying their last words? Harry had no memory of his parents at all before the dementors showed up. And then suddenly he has this scream of his mother replaying in his mind over and over. And then it her pleading for his life, knowing her husband is already dead, and then his father telling his mother to run and try to live.
Can you honestly tell me that there is anything more horrible to remember for a thirteen year old, who is constantly compared to his parents, constantly told how amazing his parents were, to have only their death as a memory?
I honestly don’t know if I have explained this properly. But just think of how traumatising it must have been for Harry to realise that scream was his mother’s.
