You know what’s funny Luna:
A discord member was telling a story how he introduced his friend to rwby and he kind of liked it but what surprised him that he hated jaune.
When asked why the guy said he said: “What the heck was his plan? You are going to a school to fight monsters and yet this idiot is going in unprepared with no skill or aura and instead of training he is either chasing weiss or being a lazy fool. How does he not know aura he lives in it?
Why did he bother cheating if jaune was never going to try and better himself? Why is the show telling me he is a underdog when he is doing nothing to show it?
If it wasn’t for the forever fall arc jaune would have never made in this field.”
He had more to say but damn he hated the guy and honestly with his points it is hard to argue.
Makes you wonder what was ozpins plan with jaune if jaune couldn’t fully live up to huntsman title?
Right?? All of this is true! Why the hell was he there, and why didn't Ozpin boot his ass out immediately? So immensely irresponsible of both of them.

the frustrating thing about jaune to me is that he Could've worked. he Could've been a sharp contrast to the rest of the cast showing how hard you have to work to become a huntsman (but he only starts working to get stronger by himself After v3, before that pyrhha hard carries him). he Could've been a contrast to Ruby in how they handle the role of Team Leader (but instead ruby's focus is minimal in the volume that's supposed to be about how she specifically handles leadership). he Could've had a proper arc (hehe) about learning to support his friends and playing more of a healer role supporting the other characters going through their emotional turmoils (but they keep shoving girls in fridges so he can keep being the angsty edgy sword swinger that doesn't get a break). there's so many potential arcs here that Could've been so good but no, we can't have any of them and it's just. rrghh
Yeah, he could've. He'd be a much better character then, if still not my favourite. At least I probably wouldn't loathe him so much 😂

This is gonna be a long one.
Something that I’ve been thinking about: Blake and Yang’s “We’re protecting each other” isn’t actually that healthy-especially where Yang is concerned.
Let’s go back to Brunswick. Yang and Blake have only recently reunited, and are still on very shaky ground. Yang opens up a little bit, Blake see’s the trauma and promises to be there in the future, and Yang accepts it…until:
“And I’ll protect you.”
Yang shuts down, insulted. That statement makes her feel like Blake doesn’t have confidence in her abilities, like she can’t take care of herself.
But, how did Yang lose her arm again? Wasn’t she trying to protect Blake? Going forward in time, why did she fall from the bridge? She was protecting Ruby.
Yang is constantly throwing herself, her body, her life, in between the people she loves and whatever is threatening them.
Is that how little she thinks of them? That they are so incapable that she needs to risk her own life to protect them?
We know the answer is no, she does it because she cares, because she loves. That’s also why Blake said that: “And I’ll protect you, like you protect me.”
when she realized how she had hurt yang she changed it to “We’re protecting each other” which is beautiful, and true, but it fails to address: yangs self sacrificeing tendencies, the double standard she has when it comes to protecting others vs being protected, and what protecting each other actually looks like in an equal partnership.
As for her self sacrificing, she needs to learn, and i’m going to quote She-Ra here: “You are worth more than what you can give to other people.” And i think Blake is slowly helping her get closer to that. oh but If we could get scene between yang and summer that mirrors the one between adora and mara “I did this so you wouldn’t have to.” ouch my heart.
She is also so close to overcoming the double standard issue, but I think, like ruby, she is still holding herself to an impossible standard, and she cant see that it not only puts herself in danger, but it hurts the people she loves.
That leaves the question of what does protecting each other actually mean. It’s not realistic to think that they can both protect each other at the same time, an equal amount, every fight, forever. Most of the time sure, but not all the time. Because they are different people, with different skills and weaknesses, there will be times where Blake needs Yang to protect her, and times when Yang needs Blake to protect her. And thats okay, thats healthy. It doesn’t mean one is more capable than the other it means they are two individuals who are there for each other.
I dont think Yang views it that way though-i think she expects it to be both of them protecting each other at the same time all the time. And she’s still likely to put herself at risk to protect Blake, but be mad if Blake did that for her.
Its should be like alternating who is on watch at night. They both need to sleep: if they both tried to stay awake neither one would be at their best, putting both of them at risk. If they both slept at the same time they are both vulnerable. It wouldnt be equal for one tho sleep and one to stay awake all night, not to mention the one staying awake would not be at their best-putting them both at risk anyway.
You have to share the burden and benefit.
Protecting each other means does mean working together to keep each other safe at the same time; but it also means protecting your partner when they are vulnerable, and accepting their protection when you are vulnerable.

RWBY is and has been my my favorite show since i started right after season 2 finished. With every season I fall more and more in love with the story and characters, and I spend an embarrassing amount of time thinking about it.
I say I hate one singular character (Jaune) because I find his personality annoying and because of some of the things he’s done, while readily admitting that all of the other characters also have issues and..
-i get called a terf
-told i have no media literacy
-Bumbleby gets attacked for some reason
??? Literally touch grass.

Jesus yall are mad 😂. Me hating this one character does not mean i think everyone else is or ever was perfect. Yeah, Weiss was a spoiled brat and I wasnt a fan of her until she got some good character development. Ruby was too young to go to beacon and was and is still relatively immature. Yang was wrong for how she acted and so was Blake. I never said anything about those characters, being angels, they arent. But that has nothing to do with being annoying, which is how i WOULD describe jaune. He is a poorly written mary sure, which leads to an aside, I absolutely would still hate him if he were a woman- because the personality of “oh im special because im not special but i try uwu” is ANNOYING.
Who would fit the role better? Literally it would be so easy to create a new character with an entirely different-better-personality and replace him completely from the beginning. No one who is already in the show could take on the role of Ruby’s “foil” bc they all already have their own roles and lives that dont fit the bill. But that doesnt mean that jaune is a GOOD fit for it-he isnt. How is Jaune relatable to Ruby? Social awkwardness and being a leader that wasnt ready to be one. Thats it. And thats not enough for me because at least Ruby had some talent, and some semblance of a right to be there, Jaune had none.
A school full of cocky students? That was just one or two teams if i remember correctly-and they were wrong for the way they treated jaune. Doesnt make jaune himself any better. And whose fault is it that he is trying to live up to a legacy he didn’t prepare for?
Hes who the audience is rooting for? LMAO i cant even take you seriously, really? Jaune? Not RWBY…the main characters?
The gall of yelling at a villain so obviously stronger than you that “you’ll pay for what you did! do you hear me?! Well say something!” …god it was just so bad. His emotional response to having the person who killed his partner ask who he was wasnt the part i found cringy, that is understandable- it was his pathetic attempt at a call out.
Lastly, Blake and Bumbleby probably would be less popular if Blake were a man i can admit that-me personally im drawn to characters with that kind of personality so i would still like that. But my issue with Jaune is his entire personality, which would annoy me regardless of his gender.
Gonna get on my soap box again and talk about some of the reasons I hate Jaune.
-Call me crazy but I think cheating you’re way into a selective, specialized school that people work their asses off to get into, is wrong. Especially when that school exists to give advance training to individuals who aspire to kill monsters, and by being there with no experience and skills, you are putting other people in danger.
-He just has a boring and annoying personality.
-The role he plays in the story is too large for him, and he doesn’t deserve it. The biggest things he contributes to the story are 1.) complementing/supplementing Ruby’s leadership-a role which could be replaced by anyone. 2.) Tactical input/ideas-which is what he is best at-too bad for him plenty of other people in the group have just as much potential for it and could fill the role. and 3.) being sad about Pyrrha- a role which could be filled by anyone (see the pattern?) He doesn’t add anything special.
-He gets. so. much. screen time. From the beginning ive been like a why is this idiot getting so much focus? i dont care about him, can we get back to rwby? Ren, nora, and Pyrrha are/were so interesting and multilayered and get the perfect amount of screentime for the closest friends of the main characters, Jaune is just over done.
-The whole scene with Cinder at Haven was so hard to watch…it was so cringy. That is literally the only thing in the entire series i’ve found cringy. It was just so awkward and weird.

RWBY would be a much better show if they'd stop centering jaune arc when someone else is going thru shit.
it's so fucking irritating whenever there's a chance for members of team RWBY to be centered and have emotional connections, instead it's always framed as how those things affect jaune fucking arc.

You know it’s funny Luna, looking back at volume 1 for the initiation to show off jaune…I don’t see the hype for him truthfully.
it’s ultimately shows that Jaune shouldn’t be in Beacon because he didn’t pass that Initiation on his own right. His entire team carried him and he pretty much just got them in trouble.
Heck they made team CRDL look bad during the one ursa moment to make jaune look good.
Team CRDL who have shown to be competent and Cardin actually beating Jaune in a fight? then suddenly all run like cowards for no reason than to make Jaune develop character despite the fact that it honestly doesn’t make sense for them to do so.
P.S: wasn’t he sleeping in class? Why didn’t he take anything seriously?
There's no reason for anyone to want him there. That Ozpin didn't immediately expel him after initiation (or during, since they were supposedly watching) is a scathing indictment of his incompetence. All Jaune has ever done is get carried by everyone around him and get them into trouble.
And yes, he was sleeping in class, and getting to read comics instead of studying. He had no business whatsoever being there, and even after cheating his way in to 'pursue his dream' he actively resisted learning, both from his classes and his tournament champion, best of the best partner who for some damn reason was willing to spend hours every night teaching him shit he should've known before even setting foot at Beacon.

He wasn’t nice when he continuously trying to get weiss to go out with him after she clearly told him no.
He wasn’t nice when he yelled at Pyrrha for trying to help him.
He wasn’t nice when he shoved Oscar into a wall and yelled at him.
He wasn’t nice when he blamed Ruby for a plan he never stood against.
I take ozpins opinion with a huge grain of salt.
If i were in life and death situations? Absolutely not, i would not want a friend like him, because he is more of a liability than an asset.
Look if you like him, thats cool, I just cant stand him lol.
Gonna get on my soap box again and talk about some of the reasons I hate Jaune.

I am curious Luna: why do you hate jaune? Is it because of his backstory?
I did notice in fanfics that they had to change so much of this origins because it never made sense.
Honestly I was quite bothered by that: no training, no skills, no aura or knowledge and is strangely lazy.
Heck he comes from a generation of heroes which makes his backstory even weirder.
He was a giant mess sadly.
How much time do you have lmao?
Okay, lemme go down the mental list here:
He cheated his way into Beacon, which I wouldn't care about except that he's so woefully unprepared that he's a detriment to his team who would be better off with no fourth member than with him
He harassed Weiss when she made it very clear she wasn't interested
He treated Pyrrha like shit when she was trying to help him, which he desperately needed
Everything Pyrrha-related just has to be about him, despite there being zero reason she should even like him, because Miles' self insert just has to be loved by the hottest, most admired girl in school
Even Pyrrha's death had to be just about him; his angst and no one else's, him doing stupid shit, all about him
Every plan he makes is awful and usually endangers people needlessly, and yet everyone acts like he's this great tactician. And then he blames other people for it too!
He gets shoved into the spotlight of every plot even when it has nothing to do with him
Big emotional moments that should by any reasonable reckoning go to other characters keep being given to him despite him having nothing to do with the situation
Now they've written even Weiss — who as mentioned above he harassed for almost a year (the entire time they were at Beacon up until the dance) — to be thirsting after him too
He has no redeeming qualities. None. He's not actually nice, he's a Nice Guy™. He's an idiot regardless of people acting like he's smart. He's all but useless in a fight. Literally the only thing he's good for is boosting people with his Semblance, and as we saw with Penny, he won't even do that when he should
Most egregiously though, how his stans act. I see so many comments and posts every fucking day making him out as some sort of uber-badass sex god who everyone wants and fights over, and the absolute worst of that all goes to Pyrrha, who always gets reduced to nothing but a desperate sex object or Jaune's fucking assistant. Every single time I see one of these, I hate him more

I love that Jaune can have another breakdown this volume after having volume 4 - 6 over his grief while Ruby was pushed to the background, and now she can’t even have ONE volume without having to share
And by love, I mean hate

@jauneschnee-arc So i’ve never watched the other shows you are talking about so the comparisons mean nothing to me-im just talking about RWBY in the context of RWBY. I never said he “took over the show” I just think he is in it too much, and when he is in it he annoys me. When did I ever say or imply he was trying to take Ruby’s leadership role? I never said or thought that, overall he’s been a good friend to her, I just dont like him as a person lol. I dont know why you think he was put in the background, I feel like he has always been a very prevalent character. Esp in season one and two with all the bullying he received. And i dont hate or blame him for being distraught over the death of his partner, I just think there isnt nearly enough depth to his character to be likeable, that was one of the literal three things about his character that i can identify but i could write a book on all the other main characters.
Thats a good point about blake, and in a way yeah thats unfair too-but I think its a little different. For one, she is capable of fighting and thats shown p early on, whereas jaune came in with no ability. While jaune was doing whatever it was he was doing before beacon, blake was fighting for her life.
Also, hating one character doesnt mean im not able to see the flaws in others. Everyone in this show has done something wrong and/or messed up. Jaune is just the only one i dont see any redeeming qualities for.
Gonna get on my soap box again and talk about some of the reasons I hate Jaune.

I don’t expect him to be fine, of course he wouldn’t be okay after everything that happened and being alone for so long. I would never expect someone to “get over” something just because it’s been a while.
I do however, expect an ADULT who has had the space and time to actually think through what happened and ATTEMPT to come to terms with things, to have some semblance of an ability to self regulate. There were several occasions since he re-appeared where wby wanted to check on Ruby, but couldn’t because a grown man demanded their attention.
I have sympathy for him being alone all those years, after everything that happened. That sure is an explanation for why he’s acting this way, but it isn’t an excuse for his needs to be put over Ruby’s. It isnt an excuse for him to be selfish and not put any effort towards contemplating himself and the world he found himself in. Time does’t heal all wounds, but if you are an adult who uses it wisely-you can find ways to cope. Not get over, just cope. Thats my main issue with him right now, it seems like he just didn’t try, and as an adult, I have no sympathy for it.
Im just so tired of Jaune, he is the least interesting character in the show and I hope he dies or stays in the ever after next episode.
Its also really frustrating seeing Ruby get put on the back-burner bc a grown man (whose had YEARS to come to terms with things) is having a tantrum. I get why wby kept going to him, bc his suffering was ‘louder’ but like, i just cannot find it within me to care about Jaune in the slightest and i hate how much time is being spent on him.
