One of my favorite games as a kid was Azure Dreams and my favorite monster in the game is pickets

I tried making custom funko pop style pickets with different canon and fan made colors

white: based on people mistaking the water medal thief as an albino picket (it's actually just the tamed wind picket's coloration in game) light blue: tamed wind picket (canon) light green: monster tower/wild wind picket (canon) dark blue: tamed water picket (canon) dark green: wild water picket (fan) orange: tamed fire picket (canon) red: wild fire picket (fan) yellow: (fan) pink: (fan)

Something took over and I need to rant about Steven Universe.

Mainly Peridot.

I was thinking about how when a characters is canonically aromantic/asexual it's exciting and nice to see

But I don't feel that way about Peridot. I've now realized my problem is less about the character and more with how they handled it

Factor 1: They choose to represent her being aro/ace by having her not take part in fusion

Implying that fusion is in some way sexual (or at the very least romantic) Meaning all of these are sexual or romantic acts:

(Stevonnie is fine if it's only romantic) So what they're saying is fusion is not just a reflection of connection in their varied relationships or even just a magic space power holding no strong meaning

I think worse is that Peridot not wanting to fuse/not liking fusion could have been used to show how autistic individuals don't connect with people in the same ways as neurotypical do

Factor 2: And this one is admittedly much more shallow but I think it help explain why her canon sexuality got ignored so hard by the fandom

Peridot is one of the only gems who gets screen time and gets to interact with other gems who isn't Steven's family/family coded

Like Garnet acts like a mom or aunt to Steven (and is technically spoken for) Pearl acts like a mom or aunt to Steven Amethyst acts more like a sister to Steven Lapis basically hates most of the cast Then most of the other gems are isolated/don't get enough screen time to develop much of a personality if any And almost every time a human shows interest in one of the gems they get shot down so there's that

Basically Peridot is set up to be the only strong character for shipping without splitting hairs on "is that actually okay?" - until they said 'actually she would never date anyone, not even smooch'

Like what was to stop them from making Amethyst the aro/ace character? They shot making Lapis one in the foot with the whole forced fusion plot point. They still could but with how asexuality gets associated with trauma it wouldn't look good OR make more than one main cast member display this sexuality - not everything has to be romantic driven (just seems weird that a show about relationships only show two romantic relationships develop)

(all other romantic relationships were already happening/happen off screen: Sadie and Shep, Garnet (Ruby and Sapphire), Rose and Greg, Rhodonite and Fluorite)

My man problem is the crew tied Peridot's sexuality to fusion which for me makes it feel like I'm in the trolley problem with: A. accept Peridot as aro/ace and that Steven who is a child did a romantic/sexual with most the main cast who are his family (outside of Connie) or B. ignore Peridot's sexuality and see fusion as a non-romantic/non-sexual act that could be romantic (like an embrace) I know that I can see Peridot as aro/ace without seeing fusion as sexual but the hoops I have to jump through to reach that makes it feel more like a headcanon then actual canon so it's just frustrating

THE ONLY REASON I FEEL THIS WAY IS THEY ACT LIKE HER NOT WANTING TO FUSE IS IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE THAT SHE'S AROMANTIC AND ASEXUAL (They 100% could have just said "Peridot is aro/ace because she is." Instead of linking it to fusion directly!)

My favourite gag is Poppy thinking Branch couldn't do something and him being like, "Actually, I slayed"

Okay but another trolls head canon/fan theory that I thought of after watching World Tour but double down on after Band Together:

Branch (and his family) weren't actually part of the pop troll village - he is a pop troll, in the same sense as Cooper is a pop troll but could be part of a sub genre the way the kpop trolls are (maybe like "boy band"/"girl band" trolls or something. Side note I could see Grandma Rosie in a girl power band)

Branch's brothers were able to just leave (also how they could even be going on tour in the first place)

Young Branch seemed completely unaware of the possibility of danger in the first movie

The rest of the pop village wasn't found when Branch's grandmother got eaten

Branch being in at least one other band who were not part of the pop village

World Tour made it clear that the pop trolls didn't know about other trolls so they clearly don't tour and explore the world the way Branch's family did or how Branch's other band seems to

I've been thinking about it for a while but I have a theory that Branch isn't actually a baby during the brozone flash back

First I need to explain a different theory I have that would help explain: different trolls are "born" differently

The main examples are Poppy and Tiny Diamond:

Baby Poppy has more baby proportions and babbles during her time on screen while Tiny is more like a shrunk down troll who could walk talk and sing right after being hatched

If you count the series (the beat goes on and trollstopia) into canon then there are more examples of baby trolls

Yes there is a glitter troll baby in that image

So either A. Tiny is weird B. Tiny caused a retcon on glitter troll babies or C. That red glitter troll actually has some non glitter troll in them

Either way none of the other babies are shown to be able to talk or even have control of their bodies the way Tiny does

The other factor in this is that other trolls have been shown to pair off, or their kids have traits that imply multiple parents. Guy isn't shown to be close to anyone and Tiny looks very much like a tiny version of Guy so I feel it's reasonable to assume that at least glitter trolls can reproduce asexually

The point however is that Branch is either a different troll type then the other pop trolls (and thus ages differently) or he's actually more of a toddler during the flashback

My second point on why I think it's that he's older is because of how easily JD convinced him to wear the diaper when they were practicing

It's not even the first time in the series someone has gotten him, a grown man, to wear a diaper

So I think it's reflective of him being forced to be the "baby" of the group even when he was no longer an actual baby - which would fit how controlling JD was about the images his brothers were allowed to have

Would also make his comment about Clay and Bruce doing the same thing to him make more sense, Bruce and Clay had made a point of not being one dimensional but couldn't see their youngest brother as anything other than the baby - if that was the literal role he had to play (and for the foreseeable future would have to continue to play if the band hadn't broken up) it would make more sense to be upset

Because if he wasn't a baby then his reaction about how they treated him does line up with how JD was treating them otherwise it reads as Branch not actually understanding the conflict his brothers were having (which is possible but I find that to be more upsetting)

Part of the deal with their relationship is the fact they know each other

Like Poppy has seen Branch be quick to close off and keep people at a distance and in her personal experience when she pushes him to open up it's almost exclusively turned out for the best (Creek and Cloud Guy are the debatable acceptations to this)

The other part is the movie made it clear she romanticized the idea of having a sibling and when she found out she had one she was able to understand where Branch was coming from - siblings aren't friends who will never leave you

And for when she pushed Branch to sing with Bruce and JD I think she was being respectful of his decision but when he was confused that she wasn't pushing him to do it that signaled to her he wanted her to convince him (like "I don't want to open up on my own I need a buffer")

I've seen a few comments criticizing poppy in the new movie, saying that she doesn't listen to branch's doubts about his brother, cross over his boundaries and only care about herself and the boys band. And I've never seen anyone giving a satisfying rebuttal so let me give it a try

First off, I think poppy pushed branch to let his brothers back into his life for his own good . When John dory introduced himself as branch's brother, poppy had all sort of reason to think that branch had complicated feelings to sort out with him. Why? Because she literally saw him crying while listening to brozone a few hours ago.

Branch is the kind of person to bury his feelings so to not deal with them. And sometimes, he need to be pushed to get these feelings out. If it wasn't for poppy convincing him, branch wouldn't even try to save Floyd, let alone reconnect with his brothers. Of course, poppy does make it a bit about herself with her "you're so lucky to have siblings I wish I had a sibling" rant but her push is still something he fundamentally needed.

But when branch's doubts seems to be comfirmed and it seems like his brothers are about to abandon him again, poppy doesn't even hesitate to leave everyone for him. I can't understand how one can think that poppy doesn't care about branch's feelings when she respond to his lash out with nothing but compassion.

Lastly, there's the part where poppy try to convince branch to sing with his brothers then say something that can be interpreted as reverse psychology. "I agree with you. I think you can handle it so I think you shouldn't do it". Now this could be interpreted in two different ways. Either poppy is genuinely trying to be understanding, which I think is entirely possible or she's again pushing branch out of his comfort zone which seem to implied by her teasing "prove it". In which case, singing with his brothers was still a positive experience for branch and I think poppy knew it would be an helpful push.

Now, poppy isn't perfect character. She can be insensitive and self-centered and it's the case even in this movie but I think when it come to her relationship with branch, she's a very positive influence on him, pushing him out of his comfort zone and listening to him when he need it and this is the case ever since the first movie.

So I don't know if I just missed it but in Trolls Band Together they don't explain how Floyd got captured right?

I came up with a workable theory that Floyd works as a music teacher and Velvet and Veneer hired him or pretend like they were going to before they kidnapped him

Mi-an: added gray stripes to shirt

Elsie: added ripped on the jeans and made the gloves figureless

Arvio: changed skin tone and a studded earring (I don't like how he turned out bit there was little I could do for the outfit)

Amirah: changed skin tone, changed expression, made one bracelet orange, painted necklace and earrings gold and added turquoise gem details

Owen: changed skin tone (I went too dark compared to the game), changed eye color (made a dark blue), changed hair color, added yellow stripes to shirt, changed scarf color, changed expression and added rings to one hand

Then I used Owen as a base for Addit, Elsie as a base for Logan and Arvio as a base for my builder
