All the ways Colin Bridgerton pissed me off in Part 1
Offering to help her find a husband. I hate this plot! It's stupid and is not Colin. Reiterating just how unromantically he sees her! Just. Friends. Just. Friends. WE GET IT!
Asking Penelope to flirt with other men in front of him. Ugh. Ew. What's the opposite of jealous? How is this man the opposite of jealous? Colin..Bridgerton...the opposite of jealous?? Let me remind you book Colin got jealous at an imaginary man he concocted in his own head unprovoked.
The market lesson & the drawing room lesson, because, again, it's just reiterating how not jealous he is and how okay he is with Penelope being with other men! just NO.
The way he pulled away from Pen when she was wrapping his hand. NO NO NO NO. In the book, Penelope is the one that is so preoccupied wrapping his hand and caring for him she doesn't even notice the man is drooling over her and wants to extend his time with her. The show, by having Colin pull away & cutting their time short, puts the ball back in Pen's court which is dumb, narratively.
The way he so dismissively says "no!" when Eloise asks if Penelope seeks a husband in him. Like he didn't have to be so flippant about it! I wish he was more shy & embarrassed with the question than so dismissive! It was lowkey rude.
The entire Constellation Ball - offering her up to Lord Basilion, then trying to find another man when that didn't work out. Then saying "excellent!" when Penelope told him Lord Remington was going to call on her. Excellent, Colin? Really?
The jealousy scenes didn't have enough oomf & not nearly enough anger and agitation - he wasn't following it up with any action. It would have been nice to see him interfere more. Especially the confectionary scene.
Things i liked:
I liked how he was following Penelope around the market like a puppy. That was very cute! Very Colin!
2. I love how he makes this expression when he kisses her in the garden, like he's shocked by how much he's enjoying it and he's relishing her taste. That was good!
3. I liked how he enjoyed watching Pen get off on his fingers. That's a good lover right there and very Colin!
4. Colin's arc being that he doesn't have to pretend to be a debonair cavalier playboy to try and fit anymore! I LOVED that! See, that's bringing new fresh ideas to the table that are relevant and awesome, and captures the spirit of the character for SHOW Colin! bravo to whoever thought of that! Bring back olive pun Colin!!
i removed the song from the carriage scene because that song choice was AWFUL and was totally ruining the vibe. I think it's better like this imo. the music is supposed to enhance, not distract!
if you're not getting finger fucked in a carriage on your way home from a ball after your crush sabotages your only marriage prospect, then what are you doing????
The way that Nicola PERFECTLY captures that gently bred virginal touch-starved lady getting the man of her dreams, wondering if this is all a dream, taking in the moment for what it is, tomorrow be damned! chef's kiss.
Nicola DELIVERED. Signed, Sealed, DELIVERED, she IS Penelope. Did I feel like LN ultimately delivered? No, but he did a... serviceable performance. I do commend him for his effort, I suppose.
the book is so much better in every way, in every single way, like IN EVERY WAY. where do i start? like, I'm glad they had call backs & nods to the book, but the SPIRIT of Polin is just so much better in Romancing Mr. Bridgerton.
I still hate the Colin matchmaker plot, I hate it i hate it i hate it! You have to understand, the word "possessive" describes Colin Bridgerton - JQ uses that word to describe him MULTIPLE TIMES. He would not be okay with Pen speaking to other men, let alone setting her up with other men!
The journal scene is SO MUCH BETTER in the book because we read an entire passage of his adventures (not sexual) and they have a long conversation. The fact that Colin pulls away from that moment is wrong because it is Penelope that breaks off the moment in the book. Also, Colin loses his temper, which Penelope loves. Penelope loves when Colin loses his temper because she gets to see a side to him no one else sees and also it's established that she feels that expression of passion is reserved for those one has strong feelings for.
The carriage scene within itself was great but the scenario surrounding it is so whatever, not as good as book. Because his discovery of LW in the book is like a crescendo, it mirrors an orgasm, really, because of how much build up there is to it.
He takes too long in the show to figure out his feelings. In the book it's so much faster to realize he likes Penelope more than friends. We needed more yearning, more pining, idk more OOMF from show Colin. He's so soft spoken and reserved, not like book Colin.
I LOVE PENELOISE. Show Peneloise is SO GOOD, just as good as the book I think. And their mutual yearning and pining for each other was so beautiful. They are TRULY the love story of this season imo.
Nicola was REALLY REALLY GOOD. She's so Pen. She's so dreamy princess beautiful this season
overall it's good, it's alright, but i'm just saying the book is SO MUCH BETTER! and i NEEDED TO VENT.
i need to see the chemistry read between Colin Morgan and Emma Appleton for...science.
they're so twisted because these two had me rooting for frickin John and Ingrid ARE YOU KIDDING ME? sick & twisted. gtfoh (but also never stop and be in more projects together plz & thx)
