The last thing anyone wants to hear in the midst of the pain of loss is ‘life goes on. You have to move on with it’. So instead hear this: as time progresses, the wound will inevitably heal. You needn’t force it, just let yourself mend. You will. You will mend.

Sometimes I have loved the peacefulness of an ordinary Sunday. It is like standing in a newly planted garden after a warm rain. You can feel the silent and invisible life. All it needs from you is that you take care not to trample on it.

A kind of light spread out from her. And everything changed color. And the world opened out. And a day was good to awaken to. And there were no limits to anything. And the people of the world were good and handsome. And I was not afraid anymore.

From my journal: 11/7/15
In the spirit of trying to be content, even happy, with my current situation, I’m going to count my blessings, so to speak, and write down things that come to mind that bring me joy.
Various beverages come to mind as I’m sipping one now: I love coffee, hot and cold, and tea, green and black, and I have plenty of both.
I love my hour or so in the morning when the light is kind and all is quiet and I can eat and drink things I like and take some time before the potential of the day becomes reality.
I love my silly TV shows; I’m not ashamed, they bring me joy.
I love having beautiful books to read and to write in, and beautiful thoughts from and for them.
I love coffee shops and the people I see in them.
I love the calm not before but after a storm when all the work is done and there’s no guilt in taking time for idleness.
I love sunny days and pleasant temperatures, but I also love rain and the feeling it gives to the day.
I love nature and the escape into it.
I love seeking out the beautiful in every day and taking photos and trying to notice and appreciate everything around me.
I love having things to look forward to, long-term and short, like a relaxing weekend or a holiday break.
I love when hard work pays and exams come back with A’s on them.
I love good music and finding new good music and good movies and finding new good movies and good books and finding new good books.
I love memories, even though they sometimes make me sad.
I love the prospect of my future—even though it’s scary—because it’s so incredibly wide open.
I love writing, even though I never have anything worthy to write.
I love finding new places, new shops or cafes, or new nooks to retreat to when I need to or just have the opportunity.
I love my family, which is easier to do since I’m not with them.
I love eating, I really do, despite the angst it causes.
I love solitude, so blessedly easy to come by.
I love science, exciting and compelling.
I love literature and poetry, emotional and inspiring.
I love thinking of things I love, it helps.
It helps.

My world is being remade, my love rebuilt fuller than ever, magnified by having beaten silently against its oppression, ready to manifest itself everywhere. I am ready to find love again and plunge into it, whole of body, mind, and heart.

Love–and all it’s complicated ramifications, Draeger believed–actually does conquer all; Love–or the Fear of Not Having It, or the Worry about Not Having Enough of It, or the Terror of Losing It–certainly does conquer all.

Truth doesn’t run on time like a commuter train, though time may run on truth. And the Scenes Gone By and the Scenes to Come flow blending together in the sea-green deep while Now spreads in circles on the surface.

Was love then like a bag of assorted sweets passed around from which one might choose more than once? Some might sting the tongue, some invoke night perfume. Some had centers as bitter as gall, some blended honey and poison, some were quickly swallowed. And among the common bull’s-eyes and peppermints a few rare ones; one or two with deadly needles at the heart, another that brought calm and gentle pleasure. Were his fingers closing on that one?

…if a bird with a broken neck could fly away, what else might be possible? Water may be older than light, diamonds crack in hot goat’s blood, mountaintops give off cold fire, forests appear in mid-ocean, it may happen that a crab is caught with the shadow of a hand on its back, and that the wind be imprisoned in a bit of knotted string. And it may be that love sometimes occurs without pain or misery.

You should go see a counselor or something if your school provides them. Not a question but a recommendation.
I had one appointment with a counselor before the break about a different thing, and eating thing, and I didn’t feel like I got anything out of it except distraught for a few hours after talking about stuff that was anything but pleasant. So I hesitate to go back. Have you benefitted from seeing a counselor?

There is no reality except the one contained within us. That is why so many people live such an unreal life. They take the images outside of them for reality and never allow the world within to assert itself.
