I wholeheartedly support the concept of just existing with no labels, but I think that it's important to acknowledge the usefulness of them as a tool for experimentation.

I recently realised I might be gender fluid, which would explain how much my dysphoria and presentation fluctuates. And although I know if I told that to certain people in my life (after I've already come out as non-binary), they would be like "ok? doesn't matter you should just BE" (my parents would say something like that), to me this is a super useful development - it allows me to present more feminine sometimes, and be more open/aware of how my dysphoria increases and decreases on different days, without wondering if I'm not actually trans. What's more, it lets me really easily explain myself to people if they ask.

So I think if Just Being works for you, that's great, but that mentality doesn't work for everyone. Some people need to put words to their feelings in order to understand them better, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Protect trans kids

Recently turning 18 has brought on an onslaught of "AAAHHHHH I'M AN ADULT" and "NO MORE CHILDHOOD" etc, but it also occurred to me that I am now a trans adult. And with this comes a sort of responsibility for me.

Even though I am just barely a sort of baby adult, there is such a perceived divide between 17 and 18. For many trans kids, making it to 18 is succeeding and gaining freedom.

So now that I am 18, I have this opportunity to be a role model, or an example of how good things can be, to younger trans kids. When I wonder whether I should dress a certain way and worry what people will think of me in public, I think of the trans kids who will see me and know that they aren't alone, because I know firsthand how good that feels.

The other day I was at school (for one of the last times ever) and I visited one of my old Chinese teachers, while she had a class, and this kid was looking at my chest area the whole time I was chatting with the teacher and the class, and this kid eventually quietly said, "I like your pin," and I realised they had been staring at the rainbow ribbon I wear on my uniform. You never know who might need it.
