"the fact that i’m failing at everything, the fact i disappoint the people i love, i sit down and i drown in that realization everyday."

you looked up at the stars and just realizing, it's real, this is all real.

he hummed.

"if someday, i lost my battle-"

donghyuck got up from the ground and grabbed your shoulders firmly, in the brink of tears, the sight suprises you.

"you're not giving up," he broke out.

"you promised yourself to make yourself happy, catch your dream works, travel around the world, those are still waiting for you, please don't stop."

his wavering tone made your stomach sick, guilt slowly eating you alive.

you laughed pathetically to yourself, and it turns into a heart-wrenching cry without you realizing.

your emotions gave in. a waterfall of tears fell down your cheeks, heavy sobs and sniffs came by, and donghyuck, is always there. he wipes it with his thumb, caressing your back while mumbling reassuring words.

"i'm so tiring, am i?"

he smiled.

"i'm always tired, but never of you."

Not sure who knows this already but 6 months ago, Denver started having mental health professionals respond to mental health incidents instead of police. Some early data:

0 arrests were made among 748 incidents

41% of people were taken to a shelter or hospital

0 incidents were violent

6x a day, police were freed up to work on more serious criminal activity

“Defund the police” materializes through progressive steps like this. We need to pressure more law enforcement agencies to follow suit.
