Josie Lee, A face of Feminism. "I think a lot of people see feminism as man-hating. I think a lot of people see feminism as a joke, or pointless. And to a certain extent I get it. The fight for gender equality is a fairly new one in the grand scheme of things. All women weren't abducted and enslaved like black people. All women weren't imprisoned like lgbt people. All women weren't colonised and slaughtered like countless races were. For years and decades and centuries we were led to believe that actually, we had it kinda good. We couldn't vote like our husbands, but we weren't getting murdered for the colour of our skin. We couldn't work, but at least some of our love wasn't illegal. But then, as the rights of others started to improve and change, it became clear, that actually we didn't have it so good. To me, feminism is about opportunity and choice. The choice to work, or the choice to be a housewife, or to shave, or to not shave or to have children or to not have children. It's the opportunity for young girls in less developed countries to have an education. It's the opportunity for women to feel safe in their cities and their homes. And it's not quite there yet. I'm often mocked as a man hater or a lesbian and I get it. I fit the stereotype. I'm a skinhead who feels more comfortable in jeans and trainers than skirts and shoes. I hardly shave my legs (more to do with the fact that I can't be arsed than anything else) and I don't act ladylike. But that's my choice, and I have that choice because of feminism. My friends have a choice to wear their hair how they want and their clothes how they want, because of feminism. And the feminist stereotype that I fit is one that needs to be broken, my mother, a woman almost the opposite of me, is a feminist. My friends, male and female alike are feminists. Feminism isn't just for the stereotype I fit. It's for anyone and everyone that sees child brides being married at the age of five and feels angry. It's for anyone who sees genital mutilation and is disgusted. It's for survivors of sexual assault and friends and family of survivors. It's for the men falsely accused of rape. It's for the men and women who's rapes weren't taken seriously. It's for women of colour and gay women. It's for white women and straight women. It's for men of colour and gay men and white men and straight men. It's for anyone who sees gender inequality, and thinks, fuck that."

HAIR | A SHORT ART VIDEO BY KAYA E MITCHELL
this is one of my developing pieces for a level art. I experimented with the ordinary concept of cutting hair and made it "fun" by cutting and editing it down, if you look real close u can see the nervousness in my eyes :)
