"I'm not as old as you think," Osbius narrowed his eyes. "When you were born, the Dead Sea was just sick," I laughed, relishing in the amused smiles that Desiree and I shared. "Hey," Osbius protested. "Wait, wait, wait," Desiree grinned. "I've got one! When Osbius was a boy, dragons were still in their eggshells." "Wait," I snorted, "Dragons were still microorganisms when Osbius was a boy." "When Osbius was a boy, evolution didn't exist." Desiree doubled over laughing so hard her sides began to hurt. 💚𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗔𝗣𝗘𝗥 𝗣𝗔𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗘💚 In this snippet for Writers Write Snippets, Neve travels to the Origami Kingdom for some much needed rest and relaxation. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗲 - 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻 𝗔 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝗼 𝗩𝗮𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝘆 Paper lanterns hung in the air as I walked into the Origami Kingdom. I stepped on the ground and felt an immediate sense of relief and joy. The fresh scent of spring air and cherry blossoms filled the kingdom. The Paper Palace looked like it could float away with the slightest wind, yet it stood strong against any weather and had survived many attacks. The structure, composed of intricate folded paper, seemed to move in slow motion as I approached the entrance. At the front gate, I met guards who led me through the winding corridors of the palace. I passed several origami sculptures depicting the origin of the kingdom. When the guards reached the throne room, my eyes fell upon the Origami King. I had never seen someone so regal, so handsome, and so imposing in my life. He wore an origami mask that covered his entire face. There weren't many details about him in my memories, however, this man radiated such power that my entire body shuddered just thinking of what would happen if I ever crossed him. "Your Majesty," I bowed. "Princess Neve," he said, his features blocked by his mask, "what brings you to my kingdom?" A drop cloth had scattered tiles strewn across it. I did not know why I decided to create a mosaic on my own. But, here I was, struggling and trying to get the pieces to stick. I wanted to cry as I watched all the tiles fall off the wall one by one. Frustrated, I let out a sigh. “Hey,” a familiar voice said behind me. I turned away and cringed, looking down at the mess I had made. My chin dipped down, and I curled my arms around my torso. I couldn’t bear to look at him. A deep blush spread across my cheeks. Waves bashed against the gloomy cliffs. Sea mist sprayed against her lips as she breathed in the salty air. The wind tousled her hair as the setting sun on the horizon beckoned her like a beacon to a new future. She thought about her future and what people expected her to do with her life. Marry well, have children, create a legacy. Her nose wrinkled as she recalled the argument she had with her mother. With her father gone, responsibilities fell upon her shoulders. She hated when people spoke of marrying well. The thought made her want to cringe, and now she had to consider it or lose everything. Marriage always reminded her of a ring of knotted twigs, tightening every year around a woman’s neck until she could not breathe or speak. She shut her eyes and listened to the sea. Peaceful and soothing, she could stand here forever and forget everything. When she opened her eyes, she noticed Henley standing on the far side of the beach. He stared out at the sea, his broad shoulders tense. She wondered what went on in his mind. As if pulled by a magnetic force, she made her way towards him. “Good evening, Mr. Sutton,” Georgiana smiled, hoping she had not disturbed him. Henley turned to her, sadness in his eyes. A small smile appeared on his lips. “Miss. Whitehouse.” He bowed his head. “What brings you here?” “Clarity,” Georgiana hesitated, then continued, “I suppose I needed time to myself to think.” Henley nodded, understanding, and said, “The sea puts things into perspective.” Georgiana looked at the ocean with a smile.
