The construction method I’m choosing to use in the doodlebugz means cutting the wings out of the wet-felted work in such a way as to leave a strip to cover the body and length of the tail. I really prefer my bugz to have longer tails, like dragonflies, both for stability and aesthetics. You can kind of see the wire wing supports between the main wings and the organza secondary wings; I need to get better at creating a more visually stimulating back on the wings, but it’s coming along nicely. Wet felting takes a whole different mind set. It’s difficult to do, in some ways, and much easier in others. It definitely takes patience and faith, because there’s a section of the process where you can’t really see what you’re doing and you’re just hoping you’re not fecking it all up. I did feck it kinda hard on my first go... and then again but differently on the second... but then I pulled it together and worked it out. Hello, my dearest darkened darlings! Today’s rainbow moment is brought to you by Sugarpill Cosmetics, who recently released another palette in their Capsule collection. C3 is a full spectrum goth dream, friendos! I used the literally entire palette for my eye look; it’s a gorgeous blackened rainbow, and I dig it so hard. The palette has a warm coralish-pink matte that’s big enough to be used a blush, which is ok but I’d prefer a cooler pink blush with this eye look. I’ve also used Sugarpill’s loose pigments Lumi and Ghosted as highlighters, and Zero liquid lipstick as my eternal favorite black lip. I’m Rainbow Dark and I approve this palette, but you don’t have to take my word for it! You all have made me feel very special and very loved, and that is super appreciated in this, the most bonkers year I’ve lived through yet. <3 How about another little insight into my inspirational process? Another gift I gave to myself (a while ago) was this stunning bath token/decorative tag I got from the amazing Sugarbones, a fantastic artist whose patches and pins and stickers I adore. So, when looking for a birthday project for myself, my eye fell on that bath token tag, all sad and lonely because I don’t carry a purse... and that’s why I decided to create No Face. When the Groot build was still in the planning stage, I said to myself, “oh my gosh wool noodles will make this great and perfect bark texture” and did not even think for one dang second HOW FRICKING LONG it was going to take to make a metric buttload of woodles... then make another one because the first batch wasn’t a) nearly enough, and b) thickness- and color-variegated enough.
