Does Louis Vuitton leather last?

From personal experience of buying multiple pieces from Louis Vuitton, I’ve noticed that certain types of leather and when it was made has a large effect on whether the leather will last. I’m general, it is best to keep all leather goods out of the boxes and in the dust bags away from humidity/heat. This prevents the cracking of leather. Most older items made by this brand lasted long than new items now being bought in stores. Now for specifics:

Monogram/Damier Canvas leather cracks the easiest even though it is the most commonly used in the company and the leather it is known for.

Epi leather lasts pretty long but typically is not as popular of a style.

Empreinte leather is a new leather that was introduced about 10 years ago in the company. It’s a very good, durable leather. However, if used roughly, imprinted monogram will start to fade.

Vernis/Patent leather is easily scratched and some specific colors will fade or change color over time. It will not change within a few years but I have some bags over 20 years old that have changed colors. It also has easy color-transfer from other goods such as your clothes.

And finally, Vachetta leather, the plain, light-colored leather used often for zippers and handles, can easily change into a darker color if your hands are greasy, wet, have cream, or gets wet by rain. It makes it look like there is a stain on the bag. However, it’s a very common problem and it’s not extremely noticeable.

There’s also different animal skin leathers such as snake, crocodile, ostrich, and more. However, these are typically special ordered products.
