I’m not 100% sure, but I think it’s cool again to like Cat Stevens.

From the mixtape: “80s New Wave”
B52s were so ahead of their time in the early 80s; and a curious blend of originality in sound and lyricism, while yet embracing a style that recalled the heyday of post-war ‘Merica in the 50s and early 60s.
Also, Cindy Wilson.
This is lip-synced, but so what. Glimpse of Ricky Wilson, d. 1985, and his unique open-tuning method that anchored the B52s’ sound

OMG. So prescient. "...movement seems to be in the direction of centralised economies...not democratically organised which tend to create a caste system...." i.e. The EU, perhaps?
"...a tendency to disbelieve in the existence of objective truth...."
Mind.blown.
Everywhere the world movement seems to be in the direction of centralised economies which can be made to ‘work’ in an economic sense but which are not democratically organised and which tend to establish a caste system. With this go the horrors of emotional nationalism and a tendency to disbelieve in the existence of objective truth because all the facts have to fit in with the words and prophecies of some infallible fuhrer.
Orwell was probably one of the greatest accidental political minds of the 20th century, and this is just a bit of proof of it.

The making of a great compilation tape, like breaking up, is hard to do and takes ages longer than it might seem. You gotta kick off with a killer, to grab attention. Then you got to take it up a notch, but you don't wanna blow your wad, so then you got to cool it off a notch. There are a lot of rules. Anyway... I've started to make a tape... in my head... for Laura. Full of stuff she likes. Full of stuff that make her happy. For the first time I can sort of see how that is done.

"Hero Takes a Fall" The Bangles, c. 1984. This is a great album. Susannah Hoffs here with trademark sexy eye rolls. She's had great success the last several years in collab with Matthew Sweet on some retro projects, "Under the Covers," Volumes I & II, and I recently heard they are doing a Vol. III. Mainly 60's and 70's covers, some well-known, some lesser-known. They were also both in Ming Tea, Austin Powers' backup band...don't believe me? Check out here and here. And she still looks phenomenal at 50.

Coincidence? I DON'T THINK SO.
Simple Minds, lead singer Jim Kerr, were playing on Sirius/XM 80s on 8, at the very same time as the Pretenders, led by Chrissie Hynde, were playing on 1st Wave on 33, the next channel in my pre-sets. I ask you: what are the chances?

Originally recorded by the Johnny Burnette Rock and Roll Trio, here's the Stray Cats' version of "Baby Blue Eyes." Brian Setzer is one my top two or three faves. His playing just stirs something inside--speaks to me. I've always believed he was born to play guitar in this style--this genre. Just phenomenal.  He was all of about 22 years old in this video. Slim Jim Phantom has the best rebel yell known to man. This was from 1981.

NPR: You told my colleague Scott Simon, about four years ago, that you actually realized that the audience wanted the old ones. You were actually happy to report that you had no new songs to play, because you wanted to spare your audience — let them enjoy the oldies. Mick Fleetwood: Well, that's true. People love to hear things that they tell their own stories to. Creative stuff that comes from the artist very quickly becomes the property, as it should, [of the audience] — to be reinterpreted and create a backdrop for parts of their lives.
