Of all the beautiful pirate pics and artwork on the internet, and all I really want is to just stare into those eyes⌠Goddamn Taika.

I havenât sewed in over a decade, but the opportunity to meet Kristian Nairn dressed as Calypso is too good to pass up. Still need a couple more trips to the fabric store, but âohmygod this is happeningâ.

I canât believe I havenât mentioned Uncle (2014) yet! It was the first thing I watched on my way to watching everything with my beloved pirates.
If anyone knows where I can watch the third season in the US, please let me know. Iâm surviving on YouTube clips, but itâs not the same as full episodes.
I think itâs a brilliant show, and literally my only critique is - more Val! Con OâNeill is stunning in any gender, and steals every scene. I really do plan to watch literally everything heâs ever been in. Val is so far my favorite Con character, after Izzy Hands. Just, perfection.
While I would happily watch a show entirely about Val, this isnât that. The show really centers around young Errol and his imperfect family, who are portrayed with realistic flaws and struggles. All of the characters are well developed and make you care about them. I see a lot of myself in Errolâs struggles, as a kid who never fit in. It really is a beautiful show. And itâs only elevated by delightful Val moments like these.

Real deep cuts. Taika Waititiâs first movie appearance (according to IMDb). Scarfies, 1999. Um, canât really recommend it. The whole thingâs on YouTube though if youâre on a âwatch everything Taika ever made so you donât rewatch OFMD for 85 billionth timeâ journey like I am. The basic premise - a bunch of college kids find out their basement is full of weed - sounds like it could be hilarious, a la Pineapple Express, but itâs just not. Iâm actually only halfway through it, and Taikaâs character, Alex, just helped torture a guy and then convinced everyone to kill that guy. Anyway, young Taika looks like this, so, enjoy.

Have you seen Wrecked? (2016) That shit is UNHINGED. Rhys Darby is extra weird. His character is supposed to be kind of gross, but heâs still Rhys Darby, so heâs adorable mostly. Some of the other characters are kind of annoying; I definitely started watching because of Rhys. But that show is just like, wtf is happening right now, and you gotta keep going to see whatâs gonna happen. https://youtu.be/3BJrr5bo-RU?si=BMzrpa6CNN6IcoEm

Iâm beyond excited to meet Con OâNeill, Nathan Foad, Vico Ortiz, and Kristian Nairn at San Jose Galaxy Con. But I think seeing Con especially is gonna turn me into a giggly blabbering mess. Whoâs met their celebrity crush before, and how do you act normal? I need lots of help. đŹ

Love Birds, 2011, Rhys Darby. Itâs just Rhys Darby being silly and adorable. If youâre deep in the gay pirate brainrot and think Rhys is just the cutest, then youâll enjoy this movie. Itâs a lightweight fluff for a Sunday afternoon. And at one point, he looks like this, soâŚ

Plebs, Joel Fry, 2013. Joel Fry is the best part of this show and he is absolutely hilarious. I want to watch everything Joel Fry is in. This show is straight up funny - not a comedy/romance/drama. Just a clever laugh and occasional gross-out humor. Good fun.

Bloods. Samson Kayo, 2021. Not only does this show star Samson and his light-up-a-room smile, but he also created it. Like OFMD, itâs a comedy with heartfelt moments. Or, a heartfelt show with comedic moments? Regardless the category, itâs a lovely show. And, Nathan Foad shows up a couple of times. Definitely would recommend.
