Ignore the above note, lol. It's old. (I have no idea how many active followers I have now. The majority are people from over 5 years ago.)
Tumbr has reminded me once again that I am old and this blog has existed for a grand seven years now... yay. I have not been active the whole time as I mentioned last year, but I still want to say a massive thank you to everyone. It's still fun to post and make random shit for my favorite show.

Aye, Titus being a bit of a dick at first is one of the reasons he's so fun to me ❤️ . I was more poking fun at the fact he has the life experience of an infant, with being a clone sent to Magno fairly recently. It's hard for me to take the claim so seriously with that in mind, and it makes me laugh.
I can see him getting in fights though. Maybe not to the scale as the one with Aladdin, but Titus is one who would have wanted to keep up the rich boy persona that can back up his statements.

*posts random rukh thoughts over a month late b/c I forgot about it*
Tumblr media
Are the rukh an actual light source? The things my mind gets stuck on repeatedly while working on shit.
The answer would appear to be yes. This is shown when there is enough gathered at one place, usually in a relation with one of the magi using enough magic and producing magoi at a rate to be visible to everyone who can't usually see them. With the exception of Judar, but I'll get to black rukh in a minute. This is usually conveyed through light even if the surroundings are dim. The first time Aladdin is seen really going off is one such occurrence.
Tumblr media
I keep thinking to myself. How does rukh produce light when magi using magic isn't involved? Do magicians constantly see hundreds, thousands, of light sources no one else can see? Or is the light so minimal it doesn't make a difference? I like to know what light sources I'm dealing with.
The closest we get for this is with Baba. She sees the world directly through rukh; it is her source of sight. Though tbf, the anime doesn't really touch on her being blind outside of her interaction with rukh. The manga is only a little clearer. Point being, light source or not, it is a way to see and experience the world.
Does that mean that it acts as a sort of passive night vision outside of Baba? Who knows. The one time I can think of an example is that while exploring the fifth district there isn't much light shown outside of some lanterns and dim lights, but Aladdin, Titus and Sphintus don't seem to have much trouble. Meanwhile, Marga and the rest of the citizens there are used to the level of light and don't work really as a control group. So I dunno.
Tumblr media
The other conclusion is that it's not the rukh that produce the light. It comes from the magoi that they produce. When Judar explains the magic system to Aladdin (imo, a condescending smartass doing an exposition dump is a surprisingly effective way to deliver information to the audience in a quick manner), he produces magoi to deliver his point. It acts as a bright beacon that everyone reacts to and sees, especially when Judar starts attacking people with it.
I don't really have concluding thoughts on this. It's more of a ramble dump. Good place as any to switch to talk about black rukh.
Tumblr media
I kinda dislike in the anime that black rukh is also shown to produce light. A dim purple light typically, but a light nonetheless. One of the reasons I think of to why is so that each is distinguishable in a way. That a mass of black rukh isn't shown to be a massive black blob and nothing else.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(left about normal, right darkened slightly to show point of black blob)
It isn't how I ever imagined them to be though.
I'll end this on a headcanon of mine. I always thought it made more sense for the black rukh to absorb light or at the very least cast a massive shadow. The first impression Aladdin gets from seeing Judar is describing him like a black sun. What would be the cause for someone to come to that conclusion? Mine was that the overwhelming amount of black rukh from Judar would be a blot of darkness until Aladdin can focus on him properly. If it is only dozens of black birds surrounding the guy the description will be less extreme.
An eclipse (what I can attribute to being like a black sun, outside of blackhole) doesn't just cast ordinary shadows. It is putting out the main light source of the planet. It isn't a cloudy day, a storm, or night time during a new moon: the closest other comparison. The darkness of an eclipse hits different. Plus, when Aladdin gets memories about the fall of Alma Tran the sun there looks like it is permanently eclipsed. That's the quickest shorthand to show that it is nothing but darkness all the time.
Anyway, that is how I see Judar and the black rukh in general. They are opposites and out of spite literally and metaphorically counteracts the light from the white rukh.
Yup, no closing thoughts. Thanks for reading this word vomit if you did!

When I first saw that Ohtaka (or whoever on her team recommended it) called the chapters in Magi "Nights," I thought it would be neat to really commit to the Arabian Nights influence if she made the series 1001 chapters.
Don't get me wrong, it would have been an awful idea. The pacing is one of the structural issues I have with Magi. If the series was expanded to that many chapters and kept to the same plot and pace, then it would not have solved the issue. There are a few time skips that could have used some expanding on, yeah. That many chapters though though would have made the story bloated and cause more pacing issues than fixes.
Break down for Magi chapters:
Main series: 369 Sinbad no Bouken: 182
Total: 551
That is barely halfway there. Horrible, horrible idea XD.
On the assumption, again, that the story mostly stays the same and has more chapters to expand on parts more so than changing them.
Even if the series was built to be that length, I still think that's a lot. A series that long is a lot of work. Not that Ohtaka wouldn't have been able to do it, but considering that manga is published initially in a serialized format in Japan (with Magi's publisher being Shonen Sunday), a series lasting that long without cancellation or a loss of interest is an accomplishment and massive risk. I'm happy to have a completed series and not a cancelled longer one. An unfinished anime is already sad and frustrating enough to think about.
It would have been funny though.

I want to shout out how joyful and emotionally vulnerable Aladdin and Alibaba are as protagonists. There are a lot strong supporting characters, and all of them could carry their own series (of course it's Sinbad that gets it lmao). But Ohtaka chose two precious cinnamon bun boys who are so full of life. It feels like a toss up for shounen archetypes to a (possibly angsty) loner and introvert or precious balls of fluff. Others certainly exist (I grew up with Dragonball and Goku is the fluffball himbo). I love characters who are open and lovable and simply the best.
This is to say nothing against Morgiana. I adore my girl so much. I think it's also important though that out of the three of them, she's the most emotionally reserved. She has plenty of reason to be. On the flipside, I love that the girl is allowed to be that. She's allowed to be reserved, unsure, and sometimes overwhelmed and doesn't have to carry the emotional weight for the boys as the girl on the team. She's still a good part of the heart of the three of them though lol; at least close to Alibaba. (Aladdin, ily, and his intuition around reading people is fantastic. However, he did grow up in isolation, and the tact is not always there haha.)
I love them. K, thanks, bye.

Way back thinking about doing element based photosets, the easiest way would be color coded, yeah? There's just one problem with that.
Lightning magic has at least three distinct colors, and I have been bouncing around why on earth that will be for years. It ruined my plans for nice and neat color-coordination and I'm pissed /lighthearted. So, I'm going to dump my thoughts on it into a post and be rid of it. (I may eventually go back to my color coordination and edit ideas but that is not this post. This post is my built up brainrot and semi-vent post, lmao)
After best considering the way to categorize them, my conclusion is simple.
Blue lightning comes from those whose magic magic base came from Alma Tran.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yellow comes from the magicians born in the reborn world and seems to be the standard for all of them. (I know it looks a little green but that's my color correction being a little funky).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then there is Judar who has to be extra as fuck.
Tumblr media
One exception that I think supports this idea is Yunan. While magi are more directly connected to Alma Tran, I think ultimately that is not where their magic and connection lies. (Yes, I will say the same about Aladdin).
Tumblr media
Yunan uses blue, specifically against his fight with Arba and Al Thamen. She points out how it is odd it is. Yunan agrees and cites the reason he is using it is to mimic Sinbad.
It would be nice to have the Alma Tran arc animated, as the manga is in black and white and all I can do is guess. Different worlds is the only common factor I could come up with, outside of strength or purity of the magic, which leads me back to why that would be the case in the first place and I'm back where I started.
As mentioned, Judar is extra about it. One thought is since he is Fallen, though that wouldn't explain why Isnan's and presumably the rest of Al Thamen's magicians don't have theirs changed black/purple too instead of blue. My honest hunch is that because Judar named it black lightning makes it a style choice he did of his own volition. Yunan makes a choice with his. No reason Judar can't be the same.
Uh, yeah. Incomplete data. That is what I came up with though.
Yes, I know this is basically the reason given to Electro's lightning to change to yellow in No Way Home. I've been stuck on this idea for far longer than that movie coming out. Shows how long it's been lol.

I made something for people to use! And by that I mean anyone.
Tumblr media
It's a caption thing with Judar. Feel free to use for whatever. If anyone wants to. No need for credit or anything. All I did was edit a screenshot. It took a while, but it's not a piece I'm too worried about getting somewhere without permission or credit. Anything else, yes. But this is a silly gift for the Magi fandom for the New Year.
I wanted to do the manga panel Judar first shows up in but I couldn't find a good quality scan in time and too lazy to find my own. That's why this is in black and white because I'm stubborn.
Do whatever you want. Fill in with caption, color, this or that. Have fun with it. Largest size for Tumblr posts so could be resized to whatever.
I'll appreciate seeing what if anything people make with this but also not required. So, if you want to spam your friends with Magi memes in Discord or something without reblogging a copy or whatever feel free.
That's it. Happy New Year!
Tumblr media
I wanted to add something sufficiently gay and meme-y but couldn't find a good quote on short notice so here we are. Plus, shitpost is funny enough XD.

I see that youve been a fan of magi for a long time, how do you cope with the lack of content and pretty much dead fandom? Ive been a long time fan or magi too and ive been trying to get my friends into magi.
Hi, Anon! I guess I have. It doesn't really feel like it though? I got into Magi early 2017 sometime and ran this blog for about 6 months or something until I vanished. This was meant to be my hyperfixation dump blog. The first one was Magi, and it... stayed Magi, lol.
This becomes very long but the tl;dr is Magi was more popular once upon a time and you can track down and return to older stuff with the lack of new content. And be honest to your friends about the ups and downs of what you like or what they could like about the series and keep conversations going with them.
At the time, I'll say Magi content was fairly active. The manga was ongoing but wrapping up, the main anime had ended but Adventures of Sinbad was only a year out or so. It wasn't anything to do with the series of why I left. More so I found new shiny things to focus on -- I had recently graduated college, yes, I'm old -- and fell out of love with tumblr more so than Magi and soon was not producing the content or consuming enough to stay interested in the series after it wrapped.
I'd love to give some great advice to stay interested in less popular series because I feel honored you asked. I can't claim to be good at it myself though. I got back into the series when I was sick late 2021 and binged everything. I re-watched the anime and then reread the manga when I got better.
You can try promoting it to your friends as good binge material. Magi does deal with themes you can sink your teeth into but it isn't super heavy. You don't realize how much you've gone through until you have.
I apologize for such a long answer. Let me try to get to your main point. I don't really think of it as something that's inactive or dead. The anime may be incomplete but the manga is done with. I don't think Ohtaka has much more to say on it, and that's why she has moved on to Orient. The series is wrapped- for better or worse. I'm not here to dissect how good or not the final arcs are. This is long enough and getting off topic XD. If you only have/can watch the anime then that's understandable. Accessibility and availability options are different for manga. For me, knowing the author has a complete version out there in some form and having access to it makes it easier. Content will come and go. Yes, I want more. I at least have a full course meal even if part of the dessert has disappeared into the ether.
Another thing that helps is that Magi is a young series. Not in the age range it appeals to but in how long it has been around. 14-15 years? Baby isn't old enough to drive in most places, lmao. The majority of fandoms I've been in are older or about as old as I am (30s). I am used to droughts in content and things coming in and out of popularity. Both in my ADHD-wired brain and by the fandom at large. I don't mean to say that younger fans are too fickle. As I said, I'm awful at it myself. There's a large gap of time (late 2017-2021) where my interests and priorities were elsewhere. I've only been active in the fandom for a few years at most.
I will say to help out try to explore the backlog of content if you have the chance and haven't already. New fan content may not be the most plentiful. Out of all the fandoms I follow the most relate to Magi and all of the tags are the quickest to breeze through what's new. It's sad. I haven't been active in this fandom for years, and there's stuff in its peak that I haven't gotten around to seeing that is still there for me to find. 14 years may not be that old in the grand scheme of things but that is still a long time for various fan art, fic, and other content to have been put up. If there's not enough new stuff to interest your friends, recommend older stuff you are aware of. Tumblr does not have the best search option and in my experience tags dry up after going back far enough even though I know older stuff exists. That is annoying and don't have a good counter on how to combat it.
Remember the old when you don't have enough new. Cycle through your favorite things at different intervals. Not for Magi specifically, but I reread some of my favorite fic that were over a decade old at the point of me discovering them. Now they're almost twice that age. One day go through one artist's backlog, then the next do someone else's, or read the fic that got you to love the fandom in the first place. If you get tired of older things or seen the same old too often- no worries! You can take a break or watch/read the series again (accessibility or availability again to be determined and yeah that majorly sucks). Scribble your own ideas down, regardless if you want to post them. Scratch that itch for you and no one else.
That is the best advice I can give. Try finding something else you haven't seen before or let yourself enjoy stuff you have. For your friends, this may sound counterintuitive but one thing I do when recommending stuff is give them a heads up as well on stuff they may not like. Like, mine is that I despise Aladdin being a little pervert. I've mentioned before how it turned me off the manga when I first picked it up at random. Don't try to catch them off guard by saying how wonderful something is and leaving out something that may turn them off. In my experience, that leads to annoyed friends. Give them the full picture, with spoilers being whatever you guys agree to, and let the strength of what you enjoy outweigh the caveats they have. Sometimes something is just not for them, and that is okay too. If they do start getting into Magi, keep the conversation up, ask them their favorite or least favorite thing, ship, how annoying and annoyingly charming Sinbad (or anyone) is, etc. Be someone to talk to about it even if they can't find new good shit to enjoy. Be that for each other. I dunno. I don't have friends irl who like Magi. If I did that's what'll I do. *shrug*
I am so sorry for the length and I don't feel as if I have been very helpful. I tried to edit it down and be as concise as I could. I can't do that on short notice or not being able to save drafts on asks. I hope this was a fun anecdotal read at least.

IDK why I feel compelled to tell about my Magi dreams because they're nonsensical, but I do and you folks are the only ones who will listen. Or you can scroll past, no harm done lol.
I dreamt about getting a season 3, a reboot, I don't remember. Ignoring how many times this has depressingly happened, this one was weird. I found a trailer or something that I know does not exist. I came to tumblr to see if it was fake or fanmade or whatnot. Knowing we would all go crazy if it happened.
Everyone was treating it like a lost piece of media trying to figure out it actually existed.
I do not remember any other details about it. The fake trailer itself, people's exact reactions, etc. The whole thing was "WHAT?" with no solid proof that more official Magi content was coming out??
Oh, the release date was Dec 2. I remember that at least. No idea how well that correlates with Japan's winter anime season. In another universe we'll be a couple weeks into a third season or whatever was going on. It made me sad and now my obligation is to make everyone else disappointed with me (I'm sorry).

I'm doing end of the year cleanup on my computer as one does. At least, I do, lmao.
I thought to myself. Damn, I have a lot of Magi shit on my computer.
To understand why I have so much I need to explain that I tend to keep the screenshots I take for gifs, for some reason. They're PNG files so they're massive. I want the best quality so when they're compressed down to gif all the quality isn't shot to hell. After I edit them I load them up and make them a gif in one program or another. It used to be Photoshop but fuck Adobe's subscription model. Now, I use a few different programs.
With me? How about I tell you that me not bothering to delete original screenshots I have a grand total of 30+ GB of Magi content saved on my computer. For another reference, personal photos I've uploaded to computers for over a decade (compared for Magi I've only been making stuff on and off since 2017) is only about 10GB. I don't take many photos in real life but still. Over 3x the amount, lmao.
Tumblr media
(Image: a screencap of some file data. The location is marked out. The size is 31.9 GB or 34,296,431,659 bytes. A total of 12,133 files and 148 folders.)
That and considering the series itself (minus Sinbad no Bouken since I still can't get ahold of it), at about 78GB, I have over a hundred gigs on my computer dedicated to Magi. I had no idea it got so out of control.
Anyway, so I should just delete old screenshots because the saved gifs themselves are only about 1/3-1/2 GB. My computer is getting overstuffed and I should admit I have a problem.
While cleaning, I thought about my first Magi gif I did.
Tumblr media
My style has chamged. My humor hasn't really lol.
(I'm so sorry about the stretchy. I didn't size stand-alone images right. Shit if you make images exactly 300 in width like I do. Don't remember when the change came in but I hate it XD.)
