Maria Anna Walburga Ignatia Mozart (1751-1829), known as Nannerl, was a talented musician. Like her famous younger brother, Wolfgang, she was a brilliant harpsichordist. The two siblings were very close and enjoyed playing the music together during their childhood. She showcased exceptional musical skill and artistry, touring Europe with her brother and receiving high praise for her musical abilities. But she was no longer permitted to show her artistic talent when she had reached a marriageable age.
“I Am Mozart, Too” is a picture book biography that sheds light on Nannerl. The book portrays Nannerl as a child prodigy and a secret composer, highlighting her musical talent and the challenges she faced as a female musician in a male-dominated society.

A clavisimbalum, a medieval harpsichord. The tone of the instrument is delicate yet expressive. Surprisingly it goes well with traditional Japanese musical instruments!

The exquisite window was made for the Church of the Holy Trinity in Brooklyn, NY, between 1843-48, now at Metropolitan Museum. The subject of the window is the Old Testament biblical figures, “Jubal and Miriam.” Surmounting the two life-sized figures, there are Gothic tracery frames depicting various musical instruments.
