Especially when so called “empaths” turn around and further stigmatize people with low empathy. Like where did all your empathy go suddenly?

As someone with hyper empathy, it’s not a quirky character trait. I burden myself with taking care of others mental health. If I accidentally tear a page in a book or damage a stuffed animal, I feel sick with guilt, and can fully go into a panic attack. I have to apologize to inanimate objects because if I don’t then I’ll spiral into thinking i’m a bad person. I get so overly angry and anxious when a character in a book or movie is being treated unfairly or isn’t being listened to.

Having high levels of empathy isn’t fun, and it doesn’t make me a better person than someone who feels little to no empathy.

Can’t described how much better it feels to exist once you stop trying to mask. I’ve stopped trying with eye contact and it’s so much easier to interact with people. Started bringing comfort objects like stuffed animals with me, and they’ve helped me ground myself and deal better with sensory overload. Started freely stimming and it feels so freeing. I’m going to be seen as different no matter what, might as well let myself be happy.

BBC Ghosts is like THE hyperfixation of mine. No other peice of media have i rewatched this many times. no other piece of media lives this rent-free in my brain. I very regularly hyperfixate on it, as in every few months. Good lord, something about these dead gay British people just has a death grip on me.

like, oh, that character is conducting unethical experiments? Crimes against science? They’re laughing maniacally? They’re holding a test tube of dubious glowing green liquid? They’ve got unkempt hair that’s sticking out all over the place? And a flowing white lab coat? and some comically extravagant goggles? Great! Awesome! Five stars! I absolutely love it!
