Gemini Rogallo Wing

Originally, the NASA Gemini capsule was designed to land on dry land with the aid of the rogallo wing.

This was a self-inflating flexible wing, that would allow the capsule to paraglide to dry lake bed or landing strip.

Instead of wheels, the capsule would deploy landing skids.

However, the rogallo wing wasn't ready in time, and NASA decided to use traditional parachutes and water landing.

It was considered for the USAF MOL Gemini capsules but it was cancelled along with the MOL program in 1967.
