Spring of Ingo Day 21: Everything Changes

I drew this one with After the Tone in mind, but it's a pretty general headcanon, too-- it's primarily that, after getting back home, Ingo still doesn't relish being out in the cold, but can handle it better than he used to. Conversely, he can't tolerate heat quite as well.

This was based on a piece I never finished, where Ingo was found with hand-shaped bruises on his arms, leading some in the Pearl Clan to believe Sinnoh brought him to them-- thus saving him from a terrible fate, and providing them with a new warden.

For April @spr-ingo event. It sort of fits the Admission theme. I don't write often, but I was inspired to do a bit of it recently.

This is a piece of a bigger idea that explores Ingo's first time in Jubilife and how I think he got involved with the Security Corps. I always thought it looked like he had been collaborating with them for a while before the plot of the game.

"Don't be a stranger, Warden! We could do this again sometime! The way you command your pokemon has inspired me!" The captain compliments.

Oh how his heart wants to scream Yes! Yes! How about this moment! Every day! Instead he stops and remembers his duty "It was very nice to meet you, Captain Zisu. I will give it some thought. My duty consumes much of my time. Though I, too, had a wonderful time, Captain! Your pokemon and you show great potential! It has been an honor!"

It is later on his way out he is approached by his leader. She is exhausted from a days worth of political proceedings. "Warden Ingo, thank you again for accepting my request. Your presence and knowledge really aided the process today."

Her reassurance helps him unwind a bit from the long day. "Of course, Lady Irida, ensuring the safety of our new allies is a priority and good for our relations. I was happy I could contribute."

She looks at him with a small smile and then it curves up a bit more. "You know, Ingo, the Commander and I saw your little show you and the Security Captain put on." Ingo's eyes widen in panick. "He-"

"Oh dear! I am so sorry, my lady, I know I was strictly there for consulting, but the I let myself get carried away when speaking with Captain Zisu. We discussed protection methods when scouting the lands and I told her about my pokemon allies and one thing lead to another. She has a little murkrow friend she has been working with and so we battled to show each other out strength. I know you are not the greatest fan of battling unless it's for protection. I am incredibly sorry for losing myself. I-"

"STOP! Ingo, you are not in trouble! You didn't let me finish." She stopped his rambling train of thought. He shuts his mouth. Face red with embarrassment. "As I was saying. . . The Commander was very impressed with how you handle yourself. He even asked me a bit about your methods. Of course I couldn't give him much as they are not the clan's but your own." She pauses in thought. "It made me think, what if we could make this a collaboration."

"What do you mean?" He hesitates.

"I mean the activities you were doing with the Security Corps. They seem to be open to your training methods. So why not have you aid their cause?"

This is an unexpected development. Ingo is speechless.

She continues "Also this would be a sign of good will from the clan to let one of our most skilled Wardens aid in the safety of the new settlers!"

The red is back "I-I-uh-".

Irida points at him teasingly "Don't be surprised. There is a reason I asked you to attend with me today! You are extremely skilled at your job and talented in other ways as well!" She turns away. "So what do you think?"

Ingo pulls his hat over his eyes and looks down. Of all the things that he thought would happen today very little of what did happen was expected. The like-minded Captain, the exuberant display of battle that pulled at his heart like nothing else he remembers. The yearning for more. And, the most surprising of them all, the possibility of doing it again with the added bonus of aiding people with his skills.

He looks back up at his clan leader who gives him a bit of a knowing smile and he returns it the best he can. "Lady Irida, it would be my honor to aid in this collaborative endeavor!"
