The whole thing starts because of a misunderstanding - Kevin keeps hearing about Bark bark, but never really catches on that he isn't a real dog, from the jokes Jeremy makes, nor the curt mentions from Jean. And well, Thea always said how she loves dogs, and if Jeremy managed to have a pet and a professional exy career, then maybe they can too?

So yeah, Kevin gets them the dog. Thea is equal parts surprised and excited (and thinking Kevin must be going through some internal crisis again because it's so out of the blue he literally won't go 2 hours out of his way to visit his father when they're in the area for a game, if it doesn't align with their schedule but he came into the flat with a puppy??) She loves it though.

So then their lives become a lot more chaotic obviously.

The dog takes over their lives, and the original foxes start referring to it as their child. He chews through Kevin's shoes with staggering speed, and every blanket in the flat is marked by his hair. Of course, it's a breed that needs to be active, so they take up running together in the evenings so as to tire him out.

And then, then Jeremy and Jean are in the area, and Kevin and Thea invite them to meet up. Jeremy is more excited than usual and well, asks how their dog is like with other pets because he always travels with Bark bark. So, Kevin jumping at the occasion, they meet at the dog park.

And yeah.

Thea will never stop laughing about that. Never letting it go.

My takes on some of this fandoms most controversial issues lately:

• you can criticize and dislike whatever but you should never be rude and threatening about it??? This is going both to nora haters and to other fans haters

• Omfg sometimes characters don't get development because the narrator who's pov we are reading couldn't care less about their issues? Rings any bells? Seriously

• I get it you come from the anime trenches but just because there's a lot of fetishism of gay boys by women there, doesn't mean women can't enjoy queer books with men protagonists anymore wtf. Kinda sexist. Live and let live.

• yeah Kevin uses alcohol as an escape but that doesn't yet qualify as alcoholism. Alcoholism is a severe condition, seriously. That's like saying someone who's in a bad mood is suicidal immediately.

• I saw several complaints on goodreads that TSC should have had sensitivity readers bcs they dont like how Jean's trauma has been approached. 1. How do you know it didn't have sensitivity readers? 2. You complain when it's not even something you're sensitive to, so let me assure you as someone with shared trauma. It's accurate as heck get lost seriously.

• I'm worried we are glorifying Jean as gentle when in fact half of it is him trying to behave in a way that means he won't be punished for breaking any written or non written rules.

• I do not accept papasan chair slander. Meet me behind Waffle House at the witching hour.

I just got done at a conference on trauma informed care in foster homes and attachment disorders in children with trauma and there was an emphasis on if there isn’t intervention, and honestly? I thought a lot about Andrew and Riko on the drive home and how accurate Nora’s portrayal of them was given the trauma they endured. Heck Neil too.
