The government occasionally reminding the hd that they basically own them is so fucked but such a strong concept.

Imagine Tachihara getting worried and telling Teruko and she just kinda drops the childlike persona she usually displays and sits him down.

And reminds him that their purpose is to be weapons meant to keep society running. And she reminds him that he can’t be getting too attached, especially if it’s putting him at risk.

Because the hunting dogs aren’t in a great situation, but they do have free will. As long as they don’t overstep or go against their orders.

And the government isn’t above doing much worse.

Thinking about what if one of the monthly Hunting Dog surgeries going wrong and Tachihara returning to the Port Mafia trying to pretend everything is fine.

Feeling like he's falling apart from the inside out. But he's not cleared to return for another month.

Doctors orders.

It's just a bit of pain Tachihara reminds himself, he's supposed to be above that sort of thing.

And yet he feels like a machine that's malfunctioning. That one wrong move will destroy him from the inside out.

What he doesn't realise it's that it's no accident, the government just needs to ensure one of its dogs stay loyal to them.

short baby tachi drabble

At seven p.m. on a Tuesday, most elementary schools would’ve been empty. Sure, there was the occasional sports team who managed to rent out the gym or field outside, but they never stayed for more than an hour or two, and even they were usually gone by then.

The school was quiet, freshly waxed floors gleaming despite the multitude of scuff marks that seemed to never fade, so deeply etched that they were practically part of the design itself. If one were to listen closely, however, they would hear what sounded like a young child humming.

In one of the rooms sat a dark-haired boy, no older than five or six. He was sitting criss-cross in front of a low circular table, happily humming to himself as he scribbled some stick figures on a paper. Across the room sat a woman dressed in a brightly-colored sweater. She shot the kid occasional glances as she talked lowly on the room’s landline.

After a few more minutes of hushed words, she hung up the phone and pinched the bridge of her nose.

“Michizou?”

The boy looked up from his drawing. “Yeah?”

“C’mon. I’ll drive you home.”

The kid got to his feet, carefully folding his drawing and slipping it into his fraying black backpack along with the pile of assorted old crayons he had been using.

It was clear this wasn’t the first time this had happened.

He took the teacher’s hand as they made their way out of the room. He waited patiently for her to lock the door, seemingly unbothered by the empty school around them.

Beat up white sneakers followed behind vibrant pumps as the pair left the building. There were only a couple cars left in the parking lot; most people tried to leave school before it was dark.

“What were you drawing today?”

Michizou hummed as he climbed in the front seat (that he probably shouldn’t have been allowed to sit in, but they weren’t going very far). “My family.”

He pulled his backpack onto his lap as the teacher settled herself in the driver’s seat.

“Are you going to show them?”

There was a slight rumble as the key was turned.

“Yeah. I’m gonna be extra good and then maybe they’ll hang it up with Shunzen’s drawings! Or maybe we can mail it to him! My big bro always sends us letters!”

“I’m sure he’d like that.” A gentle smile.

The rest of the ride passed in silence until the car pulled into the driveway of a small house.

Michizou jumped out happily, waving goodbye as he pulled out his key. His parents and grandparents were probably home already, but they were always busy with work and usually didn’t have time to pick him up.

That was why he was given his very own special key!

He pushed the key into the lock, quickly fumbling with his backpack to find the folded drawing. He didn’t even remember turning the key at all when the door unlocked.

Unbothered in the way only young kids are, he shrugged and slipped the key back into his pocket.

“I’m home! I made a new drawing…today…?” When he walked in, the other members of his family were sitting around a wooden table, staring down at a small box. They didn’t bother to look up as he entered.

“Michizou, sit down. We need to have a very important talk.”

The rest of the night was a blur.

There were adults yelling, someone was crying…and witnessing it all was a now crumpled drawing left forgotten on the ground.

Just like the one who created it.

Nah 100% he says he was told all the time.

Which brings me to my next point. Cuz angst.

Imagine them getting in a fight and him crying by himself. And his mom is upset too.

And that night after the fight, just goes up to her.

“Mom, I’m sorry, I love you.”

And she pets his head and hugs him tightly, not even looking at him.

“It’s ok. I love you too, Shunzen.”

And then his world just shatters.

He pulls away and tells her it’s him, it’s Michizou.

And suddenly the distant, angry expression is back.

She just walks away, leaving behind a scared kid who wants somebody to care about him.

We don't know anything about Tachihara's family but I can absolutely imagine them calling him his brothers name on accident.

Bringing up his achievements when Tachihara's failed. Seeing his ability and remarking how amazing his brothers was.

Maybe they never say it but Tachihara knows there's times they wished he died instead.

If I were to do the math (and granted, I’m not great at math, I go to art school)

- The Hunting Dogs have monthly surgeries. Because fuck them ig. Months aren’t all even, and if wouldn’t make sense to have them the same day every month, so we can put it at 4 weeks or 28 days. Also, that way Tachihara leaving for his surgery wouldn’t be the same day every month

- Tachihara said he’s been back in the mafia for 2 weeks. We can assume he got his surgery right before he went back bc his hand was pretty banged up and it was fine when we saw him next (and in flashbacks).

- So we’ll assume that it’s 14 days, give or take

- Then he went missing 4 days before the latest moment in the timeline

- So if we’re keeping track, it’s been abt 18 days. Which means he has abt 10 left.

Now again, no rush or anything, but like y’all better start looking bc the only person who knew his location is dead

I think the next arc should start with Chuuya getting back and freaking out that there are government surgeons in the mafia base, only to learn that the Black Lizard kidnapped them bc they want them to fix Tachihara.

Imagine being a top secret surgeon and some old man grabs you and starts threatening you very coldly and aggressively. And then brings you to the mafia. I’d cry.

Tachihara and his found families are so important to me actually.

Tachihara is such a sweetheart, and at the end of the day, he just wants to be recognized as his own person and cared about for who he is.

I feel like a lot of the time people make him pick a side, which is fair enough and honestly probably what we’ll happen.

But it’s also clear from the chapters during the sky casino that he loves them both equally and doesn’t want to hurt either of them.

Basically I think they should all hug him and then they all live happily ever after.

Also, I wanna see Jouno go into “you’re a bad influence on my brother I hate you” mode and the mafia go “you literally torture people you’re the bad influence”

And Tachihara is stuck between them like a kid who’s divorced parents tried to celebrate Christmas together

I don’t think I’ll ever stop talking about Tachihara and how important his identity crisis is to me.

He spent so long under the shadow of an older brother he only really knew by the way everyone told him they were too similar and yet nothing alike, and when he tried to break free he ended up in the exact same place that Shunzen and Yosano did. Stuck in the military holding up ideals that are too big for their bodies. Fukuchi straight up made him choose between prison/death and medical malpractice when he was fifteen at the oldest, probably fourteen. And then when he finally found a home where everybody who loved him actually loved him, he was lying to them the entire time! He probably went into that final battle with the expectation that, if he even lived, they would never look at him the same.

But it’s so heavily implied that they knew what he did and kept loving him anyway! Hirotsu straight up said, “Whoever did this made sure they didn’t kill us.”

He told Tachihara that if he was Port Mafia then he’d know what to do, and he did it!

And it’s such a perfect mirror to Yosano. They’re both tied to Shunzen in irreversible ways, defined by his life and death and finding homes in people who never really cared about the dead man or how he was connected to their person outside of its effects on them. The ADA and the Port Mafia are both places that the two of them were willing to die to see survive, and they only ever faltered in each other’s presence BECAUSE of their connection. Yosano thought Tachihara had the right to kill her for what she did and the way she took the right of death away from Shunzen, but Tachihara always knew that it wasn’t really her fault and couldn’t kill her over it even thought he spent so long thinking about it.

The ADA never wanted Yosano for her ability the same way the Black Lizard never wanted Tachihara for Shunzen. They’re just so GDJHDJDHDKHFKFHDJHF!!!!

I really hope Asagiri continues this plot point and doesn’t desert in order to keep hyping up Dazai. I understand that he’s smart and cool and his character is interesting too, but it’s exhausting to constantly have every intelligent thing everyone else does ascribed to Dazai or Fyodor “knowing that would happen” or “trusting them to act like they thought.” Higuchi’s ability still hasn’t been revealed, Tachihara is still dead or missing (as is Jouno), Teruko just disappeared, and Akutagawa is still a vampire???? God knows where Gin and Hirotsu are. I just want Yosano and Tachihara to make up and for Tachihara to get more fanfic pretty please…

I’m so not sane abt him

I need more of Tachihara being just slightly off. Like, he’s just a little bit too good with a gun, or his footsteps are just a little too quiet. You talk to him about something and then later look back and realize that you didn’t get any actual answers. Even his personality seems like the perfect stereotype of a young mafia member. Everything about him is just a little bit too perfect if you squint. Not enough for anyone to realize he’s a spy, but enough that you would definitely be a bit suspicious of him.

See I feel like maybe this is intentional actually (ty s4/5 guidebook for giving my dead poet trivia once again)

In the nicest way possible, Tachihara is kinda Chuuya lite.

Aside from the obvious hair comparison, Tachihara uses his ability in a very similar manner to Chuuya a solid amount of the time. Even down to their iconic 'guns don't work on me' trick. They also both joined the mafia at 15.

Chuuya rides a motorcycle, and Tachihara has a motorbike. He also mentions wanting a cool motorcycle like Chuuya's.

Both of them were kinda fucked over by the government as kids.

Both of their friend groups got fucked over.

And Chuuya's corruption theme in Dead Apple (Wake Up Call) is the song that plays during Tachihara's fight with Fukuchi.

I just think it's fun that Tachihara still can't escape from living in someone else's shadow, and I really, really wanna see them have a serious conversation about humanity bc I need Chuuya to be confronted with his trauma again (affectionate, bc they're my favorites).
