Fishbowl therapy!

This is my Obligatory Fishbowl Rescue Fic! Except it happens in a dream after Dream tells Hob about why he missed the 1989 meeting. Hob doesn't want to make it about him, so he keeps his feelings to himself but that just leads to dreaming about what Dream's been through, which Dream visits, and they wind up talking about all of it anyway. Then enacting a rescue, having sex, and starting a relationship. It sounds terrible when I try to condense it like this, ahaha. Um. Here is a longer much better write-up on it, and here is a small snippet freshly drafted:

The dream he steps into is dim, and dank, unwelcoming. Hob is standing some distance ahead of him, facing a glass wall, talking to someone on the other side of it. His emotions are loud as they weave through the fabric of the dream: sorrow, anger—rage, even; remorse. Regret. Guilt. Dream does not have blood, as such, but it runs cold regardless. He understands what Hob is dreaming about. What Hob imagines is nothing like the reality of his imprisonment, Dream sees as he looks closer. The glass wall is tall and long, connecting at either end to two shorter panes that then connect to a stone wall that forms the back. The ceiling is relatively low, and the glass walls span from it to the floor; there are small grates for ventilation above, a small-but-serviceable bed in one corner, an alcove in the stone wall with a bucket and a sink. It is at least three meters from front to back and top to bottom, slightly longer from end to end, resembling nothing so much as a zoo exhibit for some large and dangerous creature, and Dream. He feels…he feels, certainly, to find himself in a dream of the tale he had related to Hob earlier this evening, but his feelings are conflicted. Hob's dream is far less starkly horrible than the reality, for which Dream is pleased; it is less upsetting than it could be, to be here, and he is warmed that his friend has taken the tale he was given and attempted to imagine how terrible it might have been and fallen short. It speaks well of Hob after so many centuries that he does not easily imagine cruelty of the degree that Dream had been dealt. But also. Hob clearly does not grasp the magnitude of the humiliation, the degradation, the isolation that Dream has endured, does not comprehend the suffering forced upon him. Hob has dealt in the caging and mistreatment of his fellow man, he should know the sorts of cruelties that come easily to those who would imprison others, should know that his vision is too kind, how DARE he— Dream closes his eyes, centers himself. He had not been specific in the details, when he relayed to Hob the reason for missing their meeting in 1989; 'imprisoned', 'glass cage', 'basement'—these are the relevant elements, and it does him no credit to be wroth with Hob for assembling them in a form less cruel than reality. He is, he decides, grateful for the kindness.

Lawless Lucky talked a big game around the bonfire last night. She wasn't too oblivious to pick up on the fact that her being scandalized and upset by the boys' violent sides was beginning to grate on them. So, when all of the boys were talking about the gruesome things they'd like to do to the people who made their lives hard in The Other Place, she forced herself to laugh along, and even took the opening to spin a tale about how she was planning to poison her old employer's food. And, oh, those rotten pirates? Well, she would do the same to them if she had a chance.

So busy seizing on the moment, she didn't consider that she would actually have to put her money where her mouth was.

It would shatter the illusion of Neverland as her luxurious, peaceful, happily-ever-after paradise if she had to see any real carnage with her own two eyes, much less deal any of it herself. But here was dear Peter, ever the altruist, granter of all her wishes, suggesting she come along to their next raid of the Jolly Roger. Lucky's pretty sure he knows this is out of her comfort zone, if he's paid any attention to her — and he does, of course he does. Why else would he go through the trouble of bringing all of these troubled souls to the island if he didn't empathize and care about all of them, right? She can't imagine any motive but love and sympathy. — It's funny, considering how anxiously, meticulously sensitive she tries to be to his boundaries. There was something maybe endearingly boyish about his disregard for hers.

She reasons that she should be grateful for his investment in keeping things fresh and interesting. This is what a sensible, healthy relationship looked like, right? Balancing energies was a major tenet of Celtic magic— it was the key to harmony and prosperity. A passive, supportive person worked best with a person who was a little more... challenging. It would be too stagnant or too chaotic any other way. She gives a fond half-smile to her love, her true love, convinced he's only looking out for her best interests. She would find a way to explain to him that this doesn't really interest her... another time.

❝ Well, I suppose I would... ❞

Lucky? Morally opposed to it? No sir, you've got the wrong lassie. You must be thinking of that prude from Chicago, Fiona Comisky, who used to dote and cry and sermonize Nate Larsen any time he got injured in a fight with some low-class brute he should've run away from. She had no qualms with clodhopping bullies who started barbaric fights. Didn't find it tasteless in the slightest.

She was opposed to tagging along for much more modest, supportive, team-playering reasons, to be certain. The same reasons why she declined Nate's offer to teach her how to use a bow and arrow: why would the Princess of Neverland get her dainty, dignified, not-at-all-labor-calloused hands dirty learning how to hunt when her boys got such a thrill out of slaying those innocent animals?

❝ But why bring a girl along to steal all of the attention? I'm not as strong or as sneaky as you. I may ruin the... Element of surprise. Or... distract everyone when they have to keep me out of harm's way. And there’s really— there's so much I could do back here. I thought I should make some sort of victory banquet for the boys to come back to. ......Besides... ❞

Lucky's fingers sidled over to his, tips brushing over his knuckles, as if timidly asking permission to show tenderness before making any sudden moves. Peter was a bit strange about physical touch. She could never tell if he was enjoying it, or if she maybe wasn't doing it right. When he didn't immediately swat her away, she gingerly placed her palms in his, intuitively careful not to scare him away like a baby deer too shy for human touch, or startle him like a scorpion ready to plunge a stinger into her at any moment. She has experience with his type. She has nothing if not patience and willpower to break through to them. She has hope that one day she'll be able to fully embrace him. If she's really as lucky as everybody says, maybe she'd be able to fully-fully "embrace" him.

❝ I love when you tell me all about your thrilling adventures. You get such this 𝓅𝓊𝒸𝓀𝒾𝓈𝒽 𝓉𝓌𝒾𝓃𝓀𝓁𝑒 in your eye... It's the same one you had when you first found me— the one that I saw and thought, 'Oh, there it is: my 𝐥𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫. At last, I can see it!' ❞

She boldly ventures to show a little more affection while she pleads, but not enough to push him too far, just enough to remind him that he can touch her back any time he's ready. (If he's rallying her to come out of her comfort zone, maybe this is a good time to encourage him to be a little more adventurous, too.) Her fingers, ever-so-lightly cupped over his hands, gently lace themselves into the spaces between his. She's not naïve enough to believe she's going to get out of raids forever. She just wants to experience feeling truly loved and close to him, just one time, before she has to see him at his absolute nastiest.

Ooh. Nearly all of my fics are indulging myself in some way - apart from fic exchanges, I'm writing primarily for myself as a reader - but at the same time, let's be real, it's probably The Pride Pact.

53. What is the most-used tag on your ao3?

Excluding fandom/relationship/character tags - well, technically "Fanvids", because I post most of my vids to AO3 as well and tag them all with that. After that, tie between "Romance" and "Character Study". Until recently, I'd kept my AO3 tags pretty simple and straightforward.

five times kissed for isaac&bonnie (requested by @brightbonnie)

1. Bonnie Brightman is the kind of soul that Isaac thinks all people should be friends with. There is something about her that is so honest and caring, and Isaac has always made it a policy to surround himself with the kind of people he wants to be. Bonnie is no exception, and an incredible friend at that. He’s thinking this as he walks into class the first day back from winter vacation, and hugs her tight from having missed her.

“Would did I do without you, Bon?” he quips, and plants a quick kiss on her cheek.

2. Isaac and Bonnie get along very well. Even though to some people she may seem shyer or more reserved, Isaac has always thought Bonnie was was full of life and way funnier than he was. After a science class lecture that had truly hurt both of their brains, Bonnie had dramatically exited class pretending as if she was dying a very slow and very painful death. Isaac laughed with his whole chest as others gave them weird looks, and he offered a round of applause for her performance. She responded by blowing a kiss to her adoring fan, which Issac caught and put in his pocket, before escorting her to lunch.

3. Greg Porter is maybe the most complicated person’s in Isaac’s life. There’s always a problem that Isaac– for all his smarts– can never figure out. And as much as he lets Greg know how much of a nuisance he is, it truly hurts Isaac to not be able to do anything to help his friend. In any case, it seems his friendship is all Greg really wants from him. So Isaac is there, no matter what, to hear him out, lend a shoulder, or share a drink.

On this night, after a long rant of how shitty his week has gone, Greg is already incredibly drunk, and Isaac is doing his best to keep him upright as he leads him to a couch to crash on. They’re almost there when Greg, slurred words and all, mentions something about how maybe one day he’d like it if Bonnie Brightman would kiss him.

Isaac crinkles his brow, finds it odd, and wants to chuckle at how weird it would be to kiss such a close friend like Bonnie. But there’s a certain look on Greg’s face, and Isaac takes note to never make fun of that statement, drunk or sober, if he were to ever remember it.

4. Isaac and Bonnie are studying after school at his mother’s restaurant, seated next to each other in a booth so Isaac can easily share his notes and Bonnie can explain her intricate diagrams. A classmate walks by and rolls their eyes at how close they are.

“Haven’t you two made out already?”

The question startles the both of them, and they look at each other quizzically. However, before either would ever blush or get flustered, they burst into laughter.

5. Isaac Rhodes is never late, never. He’s lived by the code of punctuality his whole life. Early is on time, and on time is late. Except this morning, after helping a new student find their class, he’s about to be late. In his head he’s weighing which moral obligation– helping a peer or being present for his math team– should rank higher as he wheels around a corner and subsequently, straight into another person.

There are limbs flying, books falling, and a familiar head of curly hair flailing about as Isaac does his best to reach for the other person and keep both of them upright. Perhaps he shouldn’t have tried at all, because the result of him holding onto the other person causes them to fall with and on top of him, and worst of all, there is another set of lips smashed into his as they hit the floor.

When he opens his eyes, Bonnie is staring down at him in horror. Wide-eyed, he silently helps her back up and hands her her bag. They look at each other for a long moment, promise never to speak of it again, and wish the other a good rest of their day.

Hiya folks! I thought this would be a fun little event to run, and I think you guys'll enjoy it too.

What is this? This is a Coco fandom event focused on fics and fic writers.

What's the premise of this event? So, you've probably seen fic events where people are encouraged to recommend other people's fics. And those are great! I love those and have participated in them myself. But sometimes it can kinda get you down if no-one recommends your fics, and you may be left feeling, "boy, I wish I could see my own fics appreciated here."

And... that's where this event comes in! This event will be somewhat similar to those events--you can recommend other people's fics that you really liked, draw them fanart, etc... But what you're really encouraged to do is promote your own fics!

Wait, what? That's right! The main purpose of this event is for you to promote your own fics! Talk about them, ramble about them, tell people why you're happy with what you wrote and why you think other people should read it!

But why? Promoting your own works in a space where people are recommending others' works is looked down upon--understandably so (it generally looks really, really bad and boastful). At the same time, though, we're writers, and we like to talk about our writing. We reblog askmemes hoping someone will send us numbers and emojis and we reblog posts that encourage people to ask us about our fics, because we're dying for some kind of excuse to talk about our writing. It's part of us, part of ours lives, much like music is a part of Miguel's life. Of course we want to talk about it!

So this event is your excuse--it's the permission you've been waiting for to talk about your fic. Ramble to your heart's content. You don't have to feel self-conscious about it, because everyone will be doing it! That's the point!

But what if I also want to promote other people's fics? Then do it! Ramble about other people's fics too! While it's not the main point, it's also 100% encouraged. Make a rec list, make a big post recommending one specific fic, do whatever you like.

What about art? This event is focused on fanfics, not art, but you can also draw art based on people's fics and post it for the event! Or, if you have art you've already drawn for fics, go ahead and reblog it--or even repost it! (Your own art, that is--please don't repost other people's art!)

Is there any sort of contest here? Nope, no contest! Just ramble about fics! Talk about your own, recommend others, post fanart, go nuts!

Should this all be in one post, or should we make separate posts? Whichever you're more comfortable with! I personally say flood the tags, but do whichever you like.

Can we work on writing our promotion/recommendations ahead of time? Yes! Go right ahead. That would probably be best, so that you can have everything ready to post on May 1st! Or you can just wait until the event starts if you'd rather. Up to you!

Is there anything else we should keep in mind? Yes. One thing I will ask is to please keep posts promoting/recommending not-SFW fics separate from ones promoting SFW fic! Some people may not want the former on their blog so they'll be less inclined to reblog it, and/or they may have those sort of posts filtered out, so they'll miss out on your SFW fics if they're not posted separately.

As well, please keep it positive! Do not talk about fics (including your own) negatively. Even if you felt your dialogue wasn't totally in-character in that oneshot, or a few plot threads didn't get tied up as neatly as you would have liked in your longfic, try to focus on what you liked about the fics. And while critique can be constructive, that's not the purpose of this event here, so please stick to the positives.

One last thing, but please do not promote anything as "the best fic" or "the greatest [genre/ship/character] fic" and so on. Keep in mind that when you say things like that, you're putting all other fics down, and we don't want that! (Unless you're saying your fic is your best work--that's perfectly fine!) You can promote your work or the works of others without putting other people down.

When is the event? The event will be on May 1st! This will be a one-day event, to make things simple. If you won't be around that day, you can schedule your posts for that day in advance.

I think that's about everything. There's no official blog for this event or anything--just post your stuff to the Coco tags on May 1st and have fun! But if you have any questions, feel free to fire me an ask. See you then!

I got the news about your squad. For what it’s worth, I think know you did the right thing, and I don’t care what any Republic spy reading this thinks about that. It’s just sad that this is what it’s come to. I remember the old days when you thought the Republic was a bastion of hope in the world, that it really was just unbreakable and that it always held the moral high ground. And I don’t mean that as an ‘I told you so’, because we all thought the same. It’s just sad that you were wrong.

Anyway, I’ve left Corellia. This wasn’t popular with the rest of my Order, as you’d imagine, and there’s probably some talk of expulsion back there that I didn’t stick around to hear about, but things have calmed down enough. Coronet doesn’t need warriors like me anymore, bless the Force for that, but too much of the galaxy does. Wherever you are now, I imagine you’ve waved off any talk of lying low and are blasting away some imps as we speak. Maybe we’ll run into each other along the way. I’d like that.

I feel like too much was left unsaid after my departure, from each of us. But I wasn’t able to find the right words, and I feel like it was a situation that very much needed the right words.

Since the Deep Roads, that resolve only seemed to have hardened. You became less patient with people, sharper, more prone to lash out. But since we left Kirkwall you’ve become sullen, bitter and almost spiteful. You started that bar-fight back in Brayford over no reason, just to lash out at something, and how you smashed the bouncer’s jaw open for the way he looked at you... and Varric stood back and I saw you look at each other, and you just mumbled your excuses and hid yourself away for days. People are worried. You’re unrecognisable. Except to me, because I recognise it in myself.

I was the same, when you took me to the Grey Wardens. I could barely remember the way you and Anders dragged me to safety them, but your voice cut through the haze as you told them, voice hoarse but with a low menace to it, that either they would help me or you would slaughter them to a man. You really meant it, didn’t you? Stroud never let me live it down.

Anyway, it took me a long time to really appreciate it. I think you noticed. It was just so hard to get by the concrete facts, that everyone else got out of that expedition except me, that I was now cursed stranded with the Wardens, that I never got to see that so much happened without me while I was left to wander Ferelden and the Marches looking for darkspawn remnants for the rest of my days.

It was hard for me, and I know you appreciate that. And I couldn’t begin to imagine what it must have been like to have to kill two of your friends. You always said they were family to you with everything that’s happened. I know it hurts. But time will help.

1 - How many words have you written this year?

In terms of words posted to AO3, stats say 126,349. That's not entirely accurate - I completed a 42k WIP this year, which is inflating the total; only about 10k of that was actually new in 2022. So it should be more like 94k actually posted this year. (Plus around 4k in various WIPs sitting in my gdocs.) My personal goal was to post about 100k this year, so let's see if Yuletide plus anything else I manage to scramble together in the next few weeks will round it out. But it's been a really rough year IRL, so I'm not gonna be too hard on myself for not being able to write as much as I'd like.

8 - Pairing you wrote the most for this year?

Joe/Nicky, no surprise there. 5 J/N fics (including one ensemble fic, but that did include enough J/N to be worth the tag), 2 femslash (Andy/Quynh and Nile/Andy/Quynh), 1 Finn/Poe. Ugh I am so sad at how few total fics I finished this year, though in fairness, half of those were 10k+ words, and the rest were all in the 5-6k range.

I’m left-handed.

My dad’s side of the family is Lithuanian-American, but we don’t have/keep to any Lithuanian traditions that I’m aware of.

I used to take lessons in Irish dance, but had to stop back in high school due to financial reasons (and that the person who took over the dance school wanted the classes to focus on competition participation).

Started out RPing here on Tumblr back in about...2010 or 2011. Dipped into RP on other social media like Facebook and DeviantArt for a wee bit, but neither of those really stuck the way Tumblr RP has. I also RPed on Skype, and currently (but very occasionally) do so on Discord as well - tho usually not for muses I’m currently running Tumblr blogs for.

Those seeking redemption/self-improvement yet uncertain if they’re worthy of it. Those trying to find their way in life after a hardship/betrayal/etc. Those who strive to remain kind and compassionate despite the pain in their past and/or surrounding them. The vast majority of my muses have been those types, or some combination thereof. I also really like fleshing out side characters, and survives!AU’s for characters who’ve died in canon.

——— FLUFF / ANGST / SMUT! ♡

FLUFF: Fluff’s a good and needed part of RP! But for me personally, to keep my interest and to not descend into stagnation/repetition, there should ideally be a bit of plot going too. It doesn’t have to be far-reaching or heavy plot - they can just be going about their days, or waiting on something, or taking time off together, or one is showing the other a new/secret place...stuff like that. Some way for the ‘story’ of the thread to be driven forward, if it doesn’t dip into action, angst, smut, etc.

ANGST: Angst is quite enjoyable to write for me! Pretty much all my muses have some sort of pain either in their past or their current life or both, so there’s usually plenty of material to be mined, and there can be some wonderful development in character, relationships, and so forth through angst threads! (Not to say that can’t happen through other types of threads too, tho!)

SMUT: I don’t mind writing smut, and it can be another way to explore certain sides of one’s muse (tho not the only way! no shame or shade at all if you don’t write smut!). I don’t often go in for the really aggressive kinds of smut tho; I tend to be most comfy writing smut that’s emotionally as well as physically intimate (tho I am fine w/ writing one-night stands too). Like, the act itself can go intense or kinky sometimes, that’s fine by me, so long as there’s strong undercurrents of trust, consent/communication, and mutual enjoyment.

PLOT / MEMES: I like both! Usually when I answer askmemes, I try to work out some sort of location/situation to start in, so it can be continued into a thread if the other party so wishes. Plotting-wise, I don’t always have a preconception of where a thread’s plot will go - sometimes I just have a setting in mind - but I’m fine with working out some bullet points if my RP partner wants to, or with brainstorming where to go with a thread.
