based on my tags on this post.

He will always call it a coincidence, though Jackie believes otherwise, and Pete Tyler knows better than to disturb their as-yet-unbelievable peace by arguing with his indomitable wife.

"Right place, right time," he says in the days and hours after. "Just pure luck."

"Rubbish! You're a hero, plain and simple."

"Well, I'm glad I was there anyway," he replies humbly. And that, at least, is the truth.

He didn't know what to expect when he went back for her; he certainly didn't anticipate the sight of her legs flying up off the ground, hair streaming behind her, her eyes wide and tear-filled from wind and terror.

Her mouth had been open in a silent scream, a voiceless call for help from her Doctor, who could do nothing but brace his own body against the pull of the void. "Rose!" the alien was shouting. "Hold on! Hold on!"

But he was close enough to do something about it.

It was just instinct. Pure reaction. Before his weight could shift and tip him backwards into oblivion, Pete's hands flew out, grasping the handle of the lever to which she clung. Her hands were cold, bloodless. He gripped her so tight he was certain it hurt. But he didn't think of that until later.

"Hang on!" he cried. "I've got you. Don't let go!"

She couldn't answer—not with words. She only barely managed a nod before a silvery arm whipped past them, and she ducked her head away. More came, some coming within inches of his own head.

He thought, in that moment, that this might be the end—and to his horror, he wouldn't even see it coming.

It felt interminable, the brightness and the wind. His fingers froze, and still he gripped tighter. But soon the flashes in his periphery seemed more white than silver. The wind was an uninterrupted scream, unbroken by the juddering howls of Daleks or half-issued Cyber commands. His eyes, now watering, left Rose, and turned to the abyss that seemed, almost impossibly, to be turning in on itself.

Closing.

"I've got to go," he said, turning his head back to his daughter—because she was his daughter, no matter what he'd told her before. It was impossible to look at her and not see the pieces of his Jackie, of himself in her stark jaw and soulful eyes, which blinked at him through tears and running makeup. "It's closing."

She seemed paralyzed by her horror. But he didn't have long. There wasn't time…

"I'll look out for Jackie," he said, speaking fast. His voice, usually so sure, was filled with emotion. "And I'll never forget you. How you saved two worlds. I'll never let Jackie forget either, as if she could."

His words earned him a smile, and Pete felt himself smiling too, even as the whistle intensified. His window was closing; his fingers loosened.

But he chanced one last thought. "I'm proud to have a daughter like you, Rose. In any universe."

A tear slipped down her cheek, so quickly he thought it might be an illusion. He wished he could wipe it away. It seemed the fatherly thing to do, and now he'd never get that chance.

"Dad," she said, voice breaking.

But it was too late. He was letting go, and losing his balance. He had only a second—just one horrible, endless second—to smack that big yellow button.

And he did, stumbling forward into a different world. Into Jackie's arms, which shook as they wrapped around him. It seemed dark without the pure light of the void. His legs bowed and steadied like he'd just got back from sea.

"Where's Rose?" Jackie had cried. "Where's my daughter?"

Pete Tyler could barely catch his breath, but he had enough in him to say, "She's safe. She's with the Doctor." He looked up, into Jackie's crystalline blue eyes. "She's safe."

Time is a funny thing.

It seems an eternity between her letting go—or, Pete letting go of her—or the pull of the void letting go of them both—and when she hits the ground. But it can't be more than a second. Maybe two.

All she knows is when she lands, it hurts.

"Rose!"

The Doctor's voice sounds loud and clear and close, after the numbing volume of the wind. But that's because he is close. As she pushes herself up to her feet, wrists smarting, he is very close—running into her bodily with almost as much force as gravity itself.

They tumble backwards together. She hits the ground again, but this time, it doesn't hurt so much. It just feels like arms and legs and frantic hearts-beats, so fast and strong that she can feel them through his suit.

"Rose," he says, over and over. "Rose—Rose—Rose." Like he's been stripped of his entire vocabulary.

It makes her smile—makes her laugh, too, as she burrows into the welcome of his embrace, breathing in the scent of wool. "Can't get rid of me that easy," she rasps. Her throat is parched; she doesn't care. She tips her head up, or something like it. "Best not try it again, though."

"I won't." He answers so fast, there's not even an instant of hesitation. His arms go tighter around her. "Never, ever again."

He sounds like he means it.

She knows he does when the first kiss lands on her forehead—then her nose—then her chin. Before she can think better of it, she is returning the kisses. Little ones on his freckled cheeks, and his fluttery eyelids, and his permanently clean-shaved jaw.

One lands just right, and it's their lips, and she decides that all adventures ought to end this way.

Maybe a bit less sore. Maybe not rolling about on the floor.

But otherwise, just like this.

This, she believes, is the happiest of endings.

✨

"Did you mean it?" she'll ask, someday, in the future. "What you said, when Pete rescued me."

"I did. I'll never send you away again, Rose. I'll never leave you behind." They will be in a tight spot, when this conversation happens. The Doctor will be getting a bit shifty—a bit anxious about her safety and other such nonsense.

But he'll smile, and it will be a little guilty, because he'll have been thinking about it. Which is why she'll have brought it up.

She always knows.

"It never seems to stick, anyway," he'll add. Which will make her laugh, which in turn will make his smile a little brighter. "I've learned my lesson."

"Quite right, too," she'll reply, beaming away. "Guess that means you're stuck with me."

"Stuck with you," he'll say, "that's not so bad."

And that, she knows, will be the truth.

Happy 59th birthday to Doctor Who 😁🌟🎂🎉💙💙, and also, a very happy birthday to our Queen of Evil, the amazing @michellegomezofficial 💜😁🍰!I've been a Whovian since 2013, nearly 10 years now 😱, and it's stayed my favourite fandom ever since 😃✨ So here are some collages featuring most of my Whovian cosplays (1), meeting cast (2), sharing cosplay adventures with fellow Whovian @tarmaerika (3) and two collares full of Missy cosplay in honour of @michellegomezofficial. Missy remains my fave DW cosplay, and one of my fave characters to cosplay on general 💜💜 . Since becoming a Whovian I've done some 13 cosplays (4 versions of Missy, 3 of River Song, 2 of Thirteen, Ten, Two, Rose Tyler, and a casual Three), and met 11 cast members (Peter Purves didn't fit here, sorry Steven :S xD) at 3 conventions, including 6 Doctors 😁✨🌈

im glad im only a scorpio on this alone. if martha deserved better than ten then so do all of em but anyway:

this ask is giving 2006/07 i dont want to see tenth doctor in a romantic relationship with a person of color because i can't project myself or relate to them if they arent the very thing being catered to me ever since the silent pictures vibes. u know the same vibe when rtd was told to not regenerate 14 in 13's clothes. just. Ick.

but im not mad. its just interesting for a ship so big as tenrose, it is usually correlated with hating madame de pompadour and/or joan and/or river [though in joan's case they hate her not because shes racist but because shes not rose]

though comics tend to release to combat that in multi doctor stories where they jump through various alternate universes of themselves where the doctor sees themselves settled down with dr. grace holloway (for 8th dr multi doctor stories) and professor melody williams/river song (for 11th dr multi doctor stories) where in those cases, they are frightful of the concept settling down at all. [take note that both times, he settles down in the same house that he owns bc of that unit paycheck on the dl] so i am curious that with this new drs, the equivalent of this would be 13 14 15 being terrified of settling down with rose because they had grown past her as this point.

i prefer the doctor in a polyromantic ace relationship than their umpteenth 🌟tragic heteronormative romance with yt human woman number 23445788764443356743🌟 i want 14 to sweep martha off her feet in pure joy and kiss her passionately while badmouthing tf out of 10 like 9 11 12 13 do with no filter before cradling her like a baby because hes about to crumble under his brand new identity complex and then take her kid to an amusement park and then 14 trips over a brick and dies. hell i rather have nina sosanya play a whole different lady in nod to doctor who recycles their actors trope as a way to introduce a love interest to 14

Doctor x Rose Christmas Prompts!

(thank you, @rcse , for turning this into a gif 🌟)

Here’s a list of 31 Christmas and New Year related prompts that you can use freely to seek inspiration or just a fun plot to play with while waiting for the celebration to come.

The prompts are for all Doctors and Rose. Choose your OTP and write away!

The prompts:

Two strangers grabbing the last item off the shelf. They either have a fight about it (making up later, of course!) or they laugh about it, forming instant camaraderie.

Making snow angels.

"Red bicycle when you were twelve" prompt. How did this happen? When did the Doctor give Rose the red bicycle?

Kissing under the mistletoe. Jack might or might not have something to do with the mistletoe being all over the place.

Meet Cute: falling into each other while on a skating rink, either figuratively or literally.

The ice of the Woman Wept. Seeing beauty where it is nearly impossible to see. When do the Doctor and Rose visit the planet? Do they visit again after being there with the Ninth Doctor?

Christmas Decorations. The intimacy of decorating the tree together. Putting a star on the top. Decorating the Tardis! Some Doctors are excited! Some Doctors are grumpy (yet still feel warm and happy inside).

Christmas workshop. Baking cookies. Making glass decorations. Scrapbooking. Drawing postcards. Anything you think is suitable for a Christmas workshop.

The Unquiet Dead post-episode. Does the Doctor take Rose to another Christmas location and time? Do they remember Gwyneth and the way she saved the world? Do they read Charles Dickens' stories? How do they deal with the events of the episode before returning to 2005 (well, 2006)?

The Christmas Invasion. Popping Christmas crackers. Snuggling in front of the TV together. It is obvious in New Earth that Ten and Rose didn't leave immediately after celebrating Christmas. Cocoa and cuddling in front of the fireplace. What were they doing before leaving? Christmas Domestics.

Hallmark movie scenario. Create the cheesiest, tropiest plot in the shades of red, golden and green, and give us the happiest ending ever!

Gifts. Gift-giving. Gift-choosing. Gift-accepting. Gift-unpacking. Imagine how hard it is to impress the Doctor! But do you think it’s an easy job to choose a present for a one-in-a-million companion like Rose Tyler?

First Christmas together. Could be All Human AU, could be Tentoo and Rose’s first celebration together.

Boxing Day. Basking in the joy of seeing your loved one adoring the gift you chose for them. Watching your kids unpack the gifts by the fire while sleepily cuddling on the sofa, being ridiculously happy.

Christmas carolers. Christmas music.

Christmas mass. Churches. Nativity scene. Anything faith-related because Christmas is a time of hope and happiness, of believing in salvation, of giving second chances and being kind.

Charity. Standing behind the counter in a kitchen for those in need. Raising money for gifts and a small celebration for the homeless people. Making and sellings things to donate money to support the community. Arranging Christmas presents for the kids whose parents haven’t got enough money for the things and toys those kids dream of.

Christmas sweaters. Knitting a sweater for your beloved. Or it might be about the silly-looking ones they show in the Christmas movies.

Dinner with the in-laws. A disaster that ends in cherishing your partner alone when they get home. Or a sweet scenario when someone lonely understands they have now got a loving family. Could be All Human AU, could be Tentoo and Rose’s first Christmas dinner together with the family.

Kind, helpful strangers. Adding a lacking pound. Helping to collect the groceries that have fallen out of the bag. Lending a hand to help standing after falling on the icy road. Driving a stranger home in their car for free because it's cold and public transport works awfully because of the snow.

Warming up after a blizzard. A steamy bath with scented oils. Drinking spiced tea while hiding from the hostile winter winds.

Hurt/Comfort. Taking care of the one who caught a cold. Good old hypothermia fic. Or emotional hurt/comfort: soothing someone's soul when this time of the year is usually unkind to them.

Tree hunting.

Cooking Christmas dishes, planning the perfect Christmas dinner while watching old movies or humming cheery tunes together.

Kissing at the drop of the ball or when fireworks start as the New Year arrives.

Restoring a hopeless child's faith in all things Christmas. Sounds like the job for the Doctor and Rose, eh?

Writing Christmas cards to each other. Can be modern AU, can be historical AU (this one is provided by the kindest person ever, @rcse!)

The Planet of Christmas. What is the weather like there? What do the buildings look like? Do the traditions resemble the Earth ones or not at all?

Christmas photo. Making pictures and turning them into cards to send them to friends and relatives later on. Imagine Rose making the Doctor pose for a picture to send it to Jack. To Vastra and Jenny, to Strax, to any of the Doctor's dear ones. Are these funny pictures? Perfectly done ones? Or are they silly?

The New Year's Ball. Because why not get the Doctor and Rose dressed up in their finery and why not send them dancing until the midnight kiss?

It’s time for a Christmas display at the shop. Marvelling at the sweet details. Or it’s up to the Doctor and Rose to create one! What would they use? What colours? What toys, sweets, objects do they use? Could be All Human AU, could be the Doctor and Rose helping someone out.

Please, notice that these are to inspire you, not to follow them strictly: you may tweak and change them to your liking, or you may unite them into one, or you may use them as they are. The only important thing is to have fun and celebrate the upcoming holidays.

🌿 - what place do you wish you where right now? why?

With my sunflower man 🌻💛 not at his home, because it’s terrible, but just with him

🌙 - are you more nostalgic or foward-looking? or are you neither?

I’m very nostalgic and sentimental, I’m not fond of sudden change. I try to be forward-thinking, but it scares me sometimes, so I try to focus on my present as much as possible

🌟 - who’s a character that you relate a lot to? why?

Season one Will Graham jumped to mind first. His sensitivity and empathy are very strong with me. (Also dogs 🐶🐶🐶). But Harry Potter, Frodo, and Rose Tyler are all very imbedded in my heart as well. I feel like if I was a protagonist in their stories I would try to be the same- I would do what I could, even if my steps were unsure. I put a lot of heart into places and people and magic just like Harry, and with Rose we share compassion and a drive to be not so judgmental. I aspire to be like all of them really (sans murder!Will)

some thoughts:

🌟 charley attempts to teach rose how to knit, because charley (bless her) likes to make her own clothes sometimes; she can never get settled with the current fashions. now, rose considers herself a fairly capable, fairly dexterous person. but she did not take into account the fact that she’d have to count stitches. the result is a sweater with a very. very. long sleeve. the doctor either does not notice this or does not care, because they wear it. like, frequently.

🌟 bill and rose bicker about the place to get the best chips in london, because both of them think their local chippie is the best. what starts off as a series of “my place is better than yours” chip stops turns into a standing friday night dinner, where they... weirdly... aren’t bickering anymore? because they’re dating. they’re just. dating. and the doctor has to stand there, watching these two fools not realize that they’re dating, shaking their head in dismay. which is fair. the doctor doesn’t realize they’re dating rose either.

🌟 clara and rose flirt so hard that the doctor has to retreat underground for, like, a solid week. literally, their banter is just unbearable. and the bisexual chaos they bring to the ship... it’s literally too much. also, clara and the doctor take turns reading in the evenings now, and rose always manages to find a way to sprawl across them both.

🌟 rose and jack. ah, rose and jack. you know those couples that you just look at them and you can see that they have so much history? you can just tell that they know one another, inside and out, to the point that it’s eerily almost like mind-reading. non-verbal communication is a big one with these two. lots of nudging and raised eyebrows and stifled grins. and they know when to team up on the doctor, bring them out of their introspection. rose and jack have a very particular sort of relationship where they can be apart for so long, but they’ll always come back to each other in one way or another. sometimes they’re friends, sometimes they’re more... and they’re both happy that way.
