Random Thad analysis.

Yo so I just realized smth

Thad can actually become a pretty good fighter against DDs and will probably join the main squad in the future

Hold up lemme explain-

So we all know thad is based off a stereotypical jock right? But,he is also implied to be an American football player

TLDR: wild adhd bisexual girl does mental gymnastics to explain why a random robot jock mainly plays A. Football. And with enough practice,he can become a good fighter,which he is already quite decent at it.

If you look at his betta design you can see shoes with spikes at the bottom,after researching a bit these sort of shoes are used by football players,rugby players and American football players.

Tho it seems in his final design his shoes ended up becoming average sport sneakers,now it could be just bc this shot is blurry,but they seem to have lack spikes. Despite that I still think related to American Football. And why? Easy his hat design.

Look at the back of his hat, it has an American football symbol! With a cable connected to it? (Probably some design choice to make it look cool).

And the fact he is also jock just makes it all clear,like even if he played other sports or hasn’t touched American football he still makes a decent fighter.

why would this make him a good fighter?

Easy,experience. Sports mostly help you improve some of your skills(like speed,strength,fast problem solving,cooperation and in some,throwing precision,but in rugby and A. Football is tackling) Yes sports don’t automatically turn you into a professional fighter but it can help you a bit. (Also btw the season one trailer reveals what seems to be a basketball gym (the one with 2 corpses hanging upside down,you can actually see a head tossed in the basketball ring) so yes there are gyms at the colony,and yes,indoor A. Football gyms exist).

Not only that we have also seen put up an ok fight against threats:

In the pilot for example,despite being thrown across the room 2 times (1st one by J and 2nd one by V) and being stabbed in the chest twice (also one made by J and the other by V) and clearly leaking a bit more oil than the usual. My man still could stand up and still tried to put up a fight with a random pipe he found.

In EP2 he doesn’t really fight at lot (in fact he reminds me of a damsel in distress,fun seeing that dynamic switching up genders) it could be bc Eldritch J was a new thing to him and was probably taken over by shock. Tho this scene makes me think that while he has taken captive by Eldritch J my man was probably fighting for his dear life. As by simply raising his fist he was able to scare off the AS,which could be just a funny lil gag,but a hoe can dream.

I think with enough practice and him learning how to calm himself in stressful situations he can become a pretty good fighter.

If he does end up joining the gang (which will probably occur) he can be a great ally and friend! (Perhaps even boyfriend-).

Anyways am in love with this fucker and I like how they switched up the stereotypes with him (being a typical jock,who you think its a bully but it’s actually the friendliest character. Him,a boy being the damsel in distress while uzi a (badass) girl,being his lifesaver and saving his ass twice. And finally a jock with a chill personality. (Ive also realized how all the main male characters have a softer or much more chill personality compared to the main female characters)).

So over the past while I’ve had a number of different TMNT AU ideas of my own (they just won't stop.) Due to the fact that I’m not sure which one I want to work on first I have decided to post some summaries of them here in the hopes that someone would respond and give me something to talk about. IDK man :/ Also, these are all based in Rise! unless explicitly stated.Anyways, here have a list:

Teenage mutant turtle fish: Inspired by @quewp1’s Mertles AU (I am still working on redesigning my ideas for it.) In short, the earth got completely flooded after some weird event about 50 years ago. The yokai decided to be nice and helped many of the humans out before they could be washed away. Hidden yokai cities all around the world took in hundreds of humans, providing them with the safety of the magically protected underground caverns. The yokai and humans then work together to integrate the humans into the yokai world as well as figure out a way to either expand the cities or to reclaim the flooded surface. Jump forward a number of years and we find a yokai scientist, employed by the Progressions council, named Barry Draxum and his husband, a young actor named Hamato Yoshi AKA: Lou Jutisu. Barry and Yoshi want kids but they're not about to go about it the easy way. Barry’s job for the Progressions council (a group of humans and yokai tasked with figuring out how this new society is going to progress in a way that will let every being thrive in their very rapidly shrunk world) is to think up, and test out possible ideas to reclaiming the flooded topside. An idea that he had been meaning to test out was to mutate humanoides to give them fish features that would allow them to survive underwater. So yeah, instead of just going out and adopting some kids, Barry and Yoshi decide to create their own in a test tube. In order of age there’s Jennika, a yellow bellied slider and armored catfish, Raph, a snapper and nurse shark, Leo and Donnie, a red eared slider and betta fish, and a softshell and betta fish respectively, Mikey, a box turtle and mandarin fish, lastly Venus, a smooth softshell and flying fish.

Lost to the void: Your classic Mikey ends up being unable to save Leo from the prison dimension but with a twist. While he had been able to open the portal it closes just as Leo reaches it, or at least it seems that way for his brothers. Instead, when Leo reaches the portal it zaps him into a black void and he passes out for a bit. He wakes up to a pair of glowing eyes that blink at him and the sound of a voice saying something about him not belonging there. Everything goes fuzzy and then he wakes up in pain and an alleyway in a version of the 2003 dimension. He meets Lord Simultaneous who tells him about the multiverse and agrees to help him get home. When they try though, it doesn't work. Lord Sims (because I cannot be bothered) informs Leo that getting him home will take a bit more doing than he thought. There's not much that Leo can do about it and he starts to get really bored after about a month of waiting around in Lord Sims main palace. Lord Sims offers him some odd jobs around the multiverse, which Leo is happy to comply with. The way I have things set in my head is that alternate dimensions are the different Tmnt cannons, ie: Rise!, 2003, 2012, etc. And parallel universes are offshoots of that, ie: a fanfiction of Rise! that changes the cannon. Lord Sims can travel between these realities and now so can LV!Leo. (This is the one that I’m the most excited about right now. I wanted to get a design for LV!Leo before posting anything about it but whatever.)

Hundred year war: My own version of the turtles. (BTW: this idea came from a dream so please bear with me if it sounds a bit weird.) Yokai were never driven underground and ended up being the dominant species of earth alongside humans. At some point, for unrelated reasons, the world devolved into a world war that has lasted for nearly a hundred years. Before it began someone gave a prophecy that one of the sides would create their own destruction. During the war one side tests out a bio-mystic bomb on a small town across the border of the other side. The military of that side decides to quarantine the town due to the fact that it and the people have been giving off weird radiation. They also force the soldiers that first responded to the blast to stay there as well. First Lieutenant Hamato Yoshi finds four baby turtle eggs in one of the houses destroyed by the blast, their mother dead. He decides to raise (really co-parent) them along with a goat yokai scientist named Barry Draxum sent to study the effects of the blast before the quarantine was decided. So basically everyone that was there within two days of the blast going off were now stuck there for the foreseeable future. Over time the village and its inhabitants are forgotten about. The turtles grow up running around the compound that was set up for research and the village itself. At some point some of the young children that had been near the blast start exhibiting weird powers, which Draxum decides to study more thoroughly. I actually started writing a scene for this so let me know if you want to see that finished at some point.

Dryad donnie: At one am several weeks ago I whispered to myself ‘Treeatello’ and thought that it would be a really funny idea. By the next morning I had no idea what I had ment, but then about a week after that I had an actual idea. Partially inspired by @tangledinink’s Swannatello au in the sense that Donnie gets magically influenced to protect something and gets kinda magical-girled in the process. The turtles fight and kill a dryad that they had thought was just another mutant. The kill part was an accident on Donnie’s part. The grove the dryad had been protecting is now in sore need of a new protector so it calls Donnie, forcing him to go to the glade and becoming its new dryad protector. He gets to be a willow maiden.

Separated AU: All the cool creators have one so here's mine. Lou doesn't get mutated but he’s only able to grab Raph and Mikey. Before he leaves the hidden city he's also able to snag a pair of cloaking broaches. Once back in New York he gets in contact with his old manager who helps him get set up in a large apartment. He teaches Mikey and Raph to never take off the broaches when out of the house and sends them off to school once they're old enough. Meanwhile, Draxum has Donnie, Leo, a blown up lab, and an angry Big Mama to contend with. Big M makes a deal with him that if he gives her Leo and Donnie that she’ll forgive his poor business practices. Draxum doesn't like the idea that he has to give up the things that he spent his entire life working for. The two of them decide that they can share them, Big M gets them to raise for publicity and later her Battle Nexus pits, Draxum gets to see them once a month for testing and samples. Eventually Donnie starts begging Big M to give him a cloaking broach and let him go to human school, eventually after a lot of pestering she gives in and gets cloaking broaches for both him and Leo. At this point Raph and Mikey are both in highschool and have made quite a name for themselves in all the different extracurriculars they participate in. Out of nowhere these two kids show up and start beating them at everything.

Dys can you give me tips on how to take care of Betta fish? Should I put anything in the water? Like idk a booster or cleanser or anything? @_@ yesterday on my way home I found a betta fish in a puddle and a broken aquarium next to it and I was like wtf and took it home with me using my water bottle and now I have a betta fish @_@ my neighbours confirmed it's a betta fish btw but they don't wanna take it so now I'm left with this guy. He's still in a bowl because I haven't bought anything yet. Gonna do that today.

So idk where you live but if you live within the USA (or anywhere really) tap water isn't good for fish cuz of the added stuff it has, to make it fish safe you have to buy a water conditioner solution like this:

it doesn't have to be this brand or anything, you just need a water conditioner or else that water is eventually gonna kill your betta.

If your betta shows signs of stress (missing scales, fins are ripped, etc) you can buy a 3-in-one that contains the water conditioner, healing solution, and bacteria production like this:

Just follow the instructions because you need to add the solution based on your tank size.

Bettas need at least a five-gallon tank to live a thriving life, so at minimum try to get a five-gallon tank. You can find it for very cheap in some websites, I got mine for less than 20.

You'll also need a small filter, you don't want a big filter in a 5 gallon tank cuz then it'll create too much of a water current and your betta is gonna hate that and won't be able to swim properly. So get a small filter. Other than that they need a water heater. Bettas don't like the cold and need a small heater in their tank so the water will stay warm.

If you find good sales you can easily buy all of this for less than $0.

If you want to decorate the tank then keep it to a minimum. Bettas are very delicate so if you want to use plastic plants then use the ones that have large leaves and feel smooth. They gonna need those large leaves to sleep, as they like to lay down on large, soft/smooth, surfaces.

I wouldn't recommend trying live plants, or live vegetation until you get used to taking care of your tank cuz that can add a lot of issues and stress to your betta/you. So until you feel comfy with what you are doing, don't worry about real plants, etc.

They love bloodworms/shrimp so you can either buy the frozen feed or the regular feed but depending on which one you use, your betta is gonna act differently. If you overfeed them make sure to give them at least boiled peas to help digest or else they gonna die.

we get the proof that it is, in fact, betty the fish, when techno dumps all his stuff in the pogtopia ravine and then picks out items he deems useful. for some reason betty is one of them.

and finally, here we can see techno putting betty in his totally secret underground base, only for himself to find it during 'THE REVOLUTION' stream

all the evidence points us to the conclusion that techno got it during tommy and wilbur's first stream with him. i haven't watched perspective of either of the bois, so I can't say much more

however, i do hope that betty will become the only non-horse mob that techno will truly care about (and i would personally kill anyone who puts as much as their finger on it, but we all know that techno can do that thousands times better)

With Galileo, there’ll be Thunderbolt, Lighting, Magnifico and Figaro.

And with Icarus (formerly known as Galahad and briefly Merlin), Don Quijote, Sancho Panza, Rocinante and Dulcinea will live.

The rest of my shrimp arrive Monday, but really pleased with this lot. Immediately got to work cleaning and are super fast so no chance of Desmond catching them.

On big goldfish, and listening to each other

I apologize if the tone of this post is maybe a little more snippy than my usual ones. I’m usually very thoughtful with my words but I’ve had an incredibly rough physical and emotional week and I’m running low on spoons to devote to thinking things through properly. My frustration’s gonna bleed through here but I don’t want anyone to take it personal cause it’s really more me than you.

That said. 

Remember that whole trend a while ago of “don’t give advice on animals you haven’t kept or deeply researched?” What ever happened to that? What ever happened to respecting the expertise and hearing out the opinions of people who actually have it in that field vs demanding you’re right because you’ve read some care sheets and seen some photos of worst case scenarios?

My whole life and world has been immersed in goldfish for the last several years. Keeping multiple breeds of both single tail and fancy, reading, researching, joining everything from casual hobbyist groups to those of serious breeders and highly respected names. I’ve moderated, built, and eventually owned my own care forum. I’ve spent hours reading vet manuals and scientific articles, as well as conducting necropsies on every animal I lose to better understand their inner workings and what’s gone wrong. I had the wonderful experience last summer of raising a small batch of someone else’s fry. I’ve experimented with all different kinds of food and filtration and maintenance and decor and enrichment.

I don’t know everything, nobody can. I’m not perfect, nobody is. But I can say with confidence I know a lot about the care and keeping of goldfish overall, and that my information is overall very solid and thought out. 

So when someone comes in my inbox and asks my opinion on something goldfish related, my answer comes with all that experience and thought behind it. I often include caveats in my answers when I’m not 100% sure, or if I believe there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. I’m not so bigheaded as to believe that my way is absolutely always right and will work for every situation and every fish. But I answer in earnest and with confidence and reasoning. 

But then my posts get immediately doused with comments from people who to the best of my knowledge have little to no experience with the species. The ones who do have experience tend to be polite in their responses, if not a bit misguided, although even then their knowledge tends to bottom out at keeping some orandas in a 40B or having tended a garden pond. Often the other comments are far more cursory and involve varying amounts of dismissal of my opinion entirely, insults, condescension, and most frustratingly, wild misinformation (much of which I’ve only heard echoed back and forth within the microcosm of tumblr, and never from a reputable outside source)

Like I’ve read a fair amount about bettas now both on here and elsewhere just cause they’re such popular fish and I’m a nerd and I’m curious. But I’ve never kept one, and I’m not an expert, and I’d never go be snappy on the advice post of someone who I know has a lot more practical and academic knowledge with them than I do? At the very least I could politely ask a question or voice a dissenting opinion with some of my reasoning, possibly acknowledging the deficits in my experience, but diving straight in with the vitriol just baffles me. 

It’s come to my attention people are vagueing about me now and that’s just? So fucking childish and unnecessary. I’m also being accused of having stunted fish based on, among other things, the old eye proportion criteria, but btw that image of the ranchu that circulates as an example? Is heavily photoshopped and not a reliable catchall method to determine stunting.

For those who didn’t believe Zoom is as big as I said, I took this picture today. He’s not the most personable of my fish so he wouldn’t let me get him against a measuring tape but I measured my hand like that at about 4 inches, then pasted those identical bars on him (swear the blue bar is the same I just recolored so it’d stand out, not sure why it looks a little longer than the red). He’s just under 8 inches, nose to peduncle. Maybe even a tad longer cause he always curls a little when I flip him on his side (also why his side looks a little sunken here, he was getting ready to snap back and splash me in the face :P). When measuring goldfish you don’t include fins, by standard. If you wanna tack on the extra inch or so of tail go ahead and call him 9″

I also weighed him, he’s 109 grams which is a tad less than I’d like but I’ve been having issues with one fish in the tank needing a specialized diet so they’ve all been getting a little less protein than usual lately. The fish with the diet issue is probably going to be going back to @finefeatheredfish​ soon and I can pick up with weekly Worm Nights as usual again. His body condition is still good though rounded from above without being bloated, muscular rather than fatty, with a nice smooth taper head to tail and a bit of a belly. He’s not a very tall fish, but that’s more cause he’s a badly bred feeder fish who doesn’t fit the perfect common genetic standard than anything. Height isn’t about health, that’s a genetic characteristic that some fish just won’t achieve. In fact many tall “humpy” commons are not actually properly tall, but have large fat deposits along the tops of their bodies particularly built up behind the head which are an indicator of poor diet and overfeeding.

What about the eye thing? It’s huge compared to his head right? Well here’s a shubunkin posted by Gary Hater, currently one of the most well respected breeders in the US hobby, both for his fish quality and welfare standards. Who incidentally keeps most of his in aquariums and states that they normally reach 6-8″ indoors. This fish was from his “giants” tank, one of which he said was roughly 10 inches. This one in the video looked a little smaller than aforementioned Big Boy so I figure it’s around 8″ or so, like Zoom. and hey, look at that big googly eye! Almost like eye size can vary naturally in healthy goldfish and isn’t necessarily a sign of stunting without other important factors that are often much more subtle and far less textbook!

The last think I want to bring up, is that this whole “goldfish are ALL large” and by extension “NEED to be large” to be “right” worries me for another reason. I’m concerned there’s a mounting pressure that goldfish should be reaching these enormous sizes that they aren’t meant to, in far too short of a time. Many of the fish that do reach these sizes in captivity, yes even the ones in ponds, reach them due to powerfeeding. Intentional or not, these fish are put on high protein, high filler, sometimes high fat diets, and often fed a lot of it. Outdoor fish also gorge themselves on algae, insects, worms, snails, aquatic plants, sometimes other small fish, anything they can get their greedy little mitts on. Then their owner will dump in a large cup of cheap high protein pond conditioning food and they scarf that down too. 

For aquarium fish, a nervous newbie keeper may see their young fish isn’t growing to the size they believe it’s supposed to and get a bigger tank, start feeding extra bloodworms, more meaty pellets, maybe turn the heater up a degree or two to boost their metabolism. They balance it out with lots of veggies so they think it’s okay, they just want their fish to be healthy and catch up to where it’s “supposed” to be! This leads to rapid and impressive growth, yes, but it comes with dangerous and potentially deadly consequences. 

Some of you may remember Queenie. She was the largest goldfish I’ve ever personally encountered, 10-11 inches and fat fat with it. Her original owner surrendered her to our LFS and @finefeatheredfish​ immediately bought her with the plan that she’d move into my 150 when it was set up. She was healthy at the time, some kind of long bodied fancy mix and drop dead gorgeous, though she needed to drop some weight for sure. Too young to be that massive and visibly overweight. She was unquestionably a powerfed pond fish.

But about a month into her QT she began getting sick, infection-like symptoms but antibiotics didn’t do anything. We worked on her another month, did our best to save her. We probably should have euthanized her earlier in hindsight but we wanted so bad to get her through and give her a happy home. She was just so amazing you know? I took her for the last week of her life to try some last ditch treatment, she died about 3 days after this photo was taken. 

I did a necropsy on her afterwards. Her vital organs were layered in fat. There was so much of it around her swim bladder that I thought it was another organ at first and got confused. I’m shocked it was still functional. Her liver was unidentifiable mush, suggesting chronic disease, and her gallbladder had simply exploded and spilled bile all over the surrounding tissue. Her body cavity was full of blood and fluid. The cause of death appeared to be the rupture of her gallbladder or liver and the tearing of some important vessel in that area, she bled out internally. 

The chronic liver and gallbladder disease were entirely untreatable for home aquarists. What we thought was infectious dropsy was full on liver failure, she couldn’t balance the fluid and electrolytes in her body anymore which caused the swelling. Likely even if we had taken her to the vet there would have been little they could do. You can’t really remove a fish’s inflamed gallbladder, or transplant in a new liver to replace a failing one. Those conditions are linked to obesity in many species, and I have no doubt that Queen’s diet and obesity were the cause of the chronic conditions that lead to her slow death.

She was powerfed because someone wanted a large, impressive fish, and it killed her. She deserved so much better than that.

Powerfeeding and its results are not always that extreme, and I can go into more on the other risks and issues if anyone is interested, but this is long enough already. I wanted to include Queenie as a cautionary tale, and because I’m still so sad she never got to meet the rest of my little school. She was such a sweetheart.

I have a genuine concern with this normalization of 12-14″+ fish as average, that people are going to start pushing their pets to meet that. Most goldfish are not genetically capable of that growth. I’d go so far as to say most goldfish should not reach that size, at least not in any appreciably quick period of time. 

Feed your fish well. Keep their water clean. Give them room to swim. They will grow on their own time, to their own size. 

And lastly. I’m open to talking about this stuff, really. I love to learn new things and hear new sides. Just please, be friendly and mature and let’s have a real conversation? We can disagree politely. It doesn’t have to be black and white, mortal enemies, I know fishblr’s environment these days isn’t very conducive to that, and that’s part of why I’d left a few weeks ago. But I’m trying to give it another chance cause this community used to be really welcoming and wonderful. I’d really love for us to be able to step away from all this polarizing distrust and be open and considerate again.

My responses may be spotty because of the terrible week I mentioned at the beginning of this post but I’ll try and check back.

I love this song! Anyways, The Supremes were NOT good on my ears, but I loved the entire Temptations set! I was hooked! A school friend and I were the ONLY Whites in the place, BTW (that I could see, at least) and EVERY Brutha and Sista was so nice to us. I guess they figured we were "good ones". (we were, of course) ;) One funny situation was when two Bros in full Pimp Regalia were "arguing" about who was prettier (better dressed). One was in all white, with white fringe trim, white bowler hat. Even a white cane. The other guy was in different shades of purple with a purple cowboy hat and purple feathers on top. My friend and I needed to get by them to get to our seating entrance so I politely said "Excuse me!". The guy in white said "Of course, my little brother!" so I thank him. And then, while passing, I turned and exclaimed to the crowd assembled "The guy in white is prettier!". They all bust out laughing, and the guy in white gave me a fist bump. Fun time! For instance, the Black actors made up as White Girls did exaggerated depictions of both Women AND Whites. Which was pretty bad. The sin, IMO, is that it wasn't funny. Robert Downey Jr. playing the White guy pretending to be Black was doing much negative Black stereotypes as well. That movie was funny though. ;) And there was some modicum of a point to it. L.O. doing Othello held no innately racist stereotypes or exaggerations. And the Black Face is but topical. The character is a Moor. I think it's, as always, the INTENT mixed with actions. I'm sure that you are bringing this up due to Gov. Northam being called upon to resign (I apologize if that isn't the case). Well, I believe that that IS an overreaction.
