Fruits Basket Manga Review , ch 111

sigh~~~ I feel that my recent posts are a bit negative towards the anime, but thats cuz the chapters I’ve read so far are either unbelievably important character depth content cut for no valid reason or content in the anime but packed with million other things that it lost its purpose or importance. Basically tohu’s ep 6 which consists of 4 chapters & now ep 5 which is a momiji ep & yup, packed with 4 chapters as well... so, I apologize for any negativity, my intention is just analyzing artistic & story-telling aspects, I love se03, but yeah it screwed up lots of important characters due to its not so thorough plot decisions & harmful character insight choices.

today.. we explore Momiji... but only before his curse breaks.

Furuba anime struggling to know how to design an episode based on various plot-heavy chapters?

so, they decided 13 eps, & decided one ep for momiji cuz motoko’s graduation & the fanclub is the core of the furuba & have already cut tons of tohru, cuz who cares? she’s kind. be like her. end of lesson. No. really, jokes aside, how to do this?

How to combine several chapters in one ep? collect small snippets from chosen chapters/content like a bee does flowers? you gotta skip some content, you gotta highlight others. The ep is only 20 min after all & you got an op & Ed that you cant always skip.... so.. furuba team decide that momoji’s ep should be true to his zodiac animal, this is the rabbits last appearance in spirit. so, they went with quick hopping from one chapter to the other like a rabbit?

No really, ep 5 is really like a rabbit in its flow, you can’t savior a moment enough before jumping to the other: we learned momiji grew up!! loves toheu romantically, challenged kyo, really meant it, wanted a fair love game, got freed, lost tohru romantically & faced momiji! but that’s not all? we still have space!! quick add akito’s moodiness & love triangle with her dog & her submissive bed partner, add a happy comedy for no reason whatever & make shigue kiss tohru & wish shes 'was his lover instead!!!!!!!!! Mind you all this happened in the anime before shigure hurt tohru with his “the truth of the zodiacs talk & them accepting & feeling consolance that kyo is doomed”talk.

-Gets whats my biggest surprise after reading this chapter ?????????

Shigure is consistent!! He isnt a rabbit hopping here & there. The dog is loyal & is tired for good reason! Him being depressed & his weird talk with thoru makes so much sense given the manga’s order.

Kyo is consistent!! In the anime, momiji surprise him with confession he loves tohru & challenge him, then kyo la~la~la~joins them downstairs for curry. Not a single expression on his face, where is the expression? it will appear when the plot is forced to address it: by the end of the ep when momiji face hin again. Then we get kyo’s reaction.

I need someone to tell the anime that actions require a reaction. You can refrain from showing a certain reaction if you can’t address it now, but you can’t erase it, negate it, then make it appear when have to!!!! couldn’t they make kyo refuse to join them & eat together? the other characters wont be surprised they think he’s needlessly moody. The audience will know that kyo is troubled with momiji’s challenged & it will excite them!!! having kyo just go eat & watch the momiji/hiro/haru/yuki comedy skit is weird.

The manga’s author wanted kyo to join the dinner, like the anime did. but huge difference. the author actually cares for logic reaction & understands that the audience aren’t dumb little kids that will sit & wait for kyo’s turn to...react! nope! she did this: (a) & (b) below.

-Lost Small Bits/ Panels from the chapter.. But Sadly Big Huge Chunks for Characters buildup & Growth:

(a) addressed the fact the hiro noticed kyoru is in love & dressed that shigure was right!! the cat being in love is a weird concept to the zodiacs! hiro reacted naturally & the author used hiro to flesh yuki’s (the rat), momiji’s (the rabbit) & haru’s (the cow) decision to silently watch the kyo (the cat) makes his own decisions to live!!! They won’t interfere or tell akito or remind him of his state as the doomed caged cat. So sad this moment is cut from yuki. Why must yuki only interact with kyo to beat him (all seasons)? why must yuki only think of kyo to envy him (all seasons) ? Here, yuki’s growth towards kyo as a person & his relationship with tohru is 1000 times better than all tohru is my mom’s sh!t & I envy kyo’s Sh!t we saw in the anime over & over till we memorized it.

(b) kyo didnt just go la~la~eat with momiji after knowing he loves tohru. Nope, there’s small bits missing: called logical emotional reaction. He was surprised he’s caught pining over tohru! cuz yuki, the audience representative, has told us in the previous chapter that ppl in love dont notice anything around them. Kyo thinks him being cold hid his feelings. the dummy’s feelings are as bright as the sun in the Sahara, tohru too. a child read her! such small thing that wont take much space from the ep but was cut cuz kyo only needs to be responsive at the ep’s end. & this scene of kyo & tohru looking awkwardly at each other is minor in space but so important cuz kyo is determined to let go but his decision is challenged by not only momiji, but his natural attraction to tohru. Here he knows he’s caught & exposed... here he knows momiji is a better choice for tohru cuz he wont didn’t hurt her mom... here he knows that even yuki is better cuz never had to pretend to be cold to her... here he knows the world is better than him... & here he just cant help by smile & walks towards her... T_T ... another lesson in writing slow burns by Takaya-san.

-Why would the anime team pass on this?? drawing kyoru closer after the epic tear in Cinderella ep, cuz they want empty suspense~! The anime team thinks that if kyo & tohru stand next to each other, then it means all their issues are solved & the audience are so stupid as to forget tohru’s mom, kyo’s imprisonment, kyo not confessing his sins to tohru & tohru’s need to make a choice wether to fogive hom or not.. nope! you see, they think, ppl who read mangas are smart, so the author can give this epic symbolism & pp would still be not sure kyoru is end game & tohru will forgive him or kyo even fogive himself, but ppl who watch, oh no, gotta cut all the plot worthy content, produce a graduation song for a minor character, cut all kyo/tohru interaction cuz it only means romance & not at all character depth & oh if we show yuki actually formulating deep thoughts that aren’t centered around him, the audience might forget his se02 struggles! or that might ruin yuki’s upcoming growth moment in the finale where he .. you guessed it hits kyo.. as he always do & sulk & think abt himself cuz yuki can only do monologues when he’s directly involved.... man~it is so sad how the anime is dumped down.. Who is the target audience again? not kids as young as hiro cuz even hiro is smart!

-just look:

Momiji talks abt kyo shouldn't give up loving tohru & the authr shows this this ghost!!! his mom! The author reminds us that kyo isnt da~~~~ forgetting anything. He’s a deeply troubled soul & hos mom wants him locked cuz she too was locked in a cage & thinks that’s safer...why oh why you dump ur own story! sh!t~

Side Notes:

I like the closeups on Kisa’s face as she interacted with kyo. It’s very rare for kisa to have a world beside the endearing parental/big protective bro/big doting sister love she has with tohru & haru & off course the romantic love with hiro which was perhaps since their birth or sth. lol. Kisa & kyo arent much on the brotherly side as they rarely interact, but its one of those refreshing interactions she has that helps cast a new light on her as tiny as it is, but its sth out of the norm around her. She sees him around tohru & gets to perceive his true unprovoked character. “He is nice guy”.

I really wanted to punch kureno this chapter.. like Shigure is a jerk shitty dog for sleeping with akito’s mom but kureno... dude.. you submissively sleep with the guy’s eternal love interest & still walks in on him talking to her!!! lol. you’re mentally, emotionally & physically weaker than him & yet, she puts you on her bed, not him & you, tho not wanting her at all, dont walk away. No wonder shigure is defeated & wishing for someone like tohru, lol! Even if shigure met an older tohru-like person, it wont work. shigure deserve someone like him mean, schemer & loves playing power games. Tohru is someone who values honesty & commutation, not saying she’s an angel on earth, but tohru knows who suits her.. except fate is saying: NO. .... currently. lol.

I know kureno’s weakness is part of his character & I love that such characters exits. There are ppl ike that in real life. It’s just this chapter, I felt shigure’s frustration. XD

Yuki in this ep is the best yuki. no exaggeration here, I love when yuki is calmly thoughtful of others & here its kyo of all ppl !!!! cutting this scene is sad.. without it, kyo & yuki remain a cat & rat in the anime. Only ever thinking abt each other thro envious binoculars or hateful words or yuki giving kyo comedic hitting or life’s problem-solving hitting. Why can’t anime yuki be interactive outside his self-centered issues is beyond me.

Momiji & kyo’s interactions are always the best! whether comedy or drama.

I hated the curry cooking scene in the anime... so weirdly out of the ep’s flow.. very forced comedy... in the manga it had a purpose! not just quick add comedy cuz next shot momiji curse breaks & drama & we’ll close the ep with tears & sadness & glimpses of hope...

I love haru’s answer to hiro... so him.. “a guy can’t fall in love?”so chill.. so..simple.

[HE] is [TWENTY-TWO] years old and is a [Owner of SILVER LINING INK AND PRIVATE CELEBRITY TATTOO ARTIST ]. rumor has it they’ve been in town for [TWO YEARS]. on a good day, they’re [UNDERSTANDING, PROTECTIVE & AMBITIOUS] but watch out! they can also be [STUBBORN AND CLOSED OFF]. [LOVE DRUNK BY EPIK HIGH] plays in my head whenever i think of them. can’t wait to see them around springhill!

TlDR;

Joongki and his sister were abandoned by his parents when they were young. They were thrust into foster care but Joongki took his sister back before they could be adopted.

Lee Joongki’s Life

Love Story by Epik High and IU

Joongki was born in Daegu, South Korea. He can’t remember much of his life while he lived in Korea but being able to speak fluent Korean has been proven fact he did live there.

His family and him had moved to New York when he was 10 years old after his father had gotten a new job. (At least that is what he was told)

It had been them three for a couple of years but soon his mother became pregnant and his sister, Naeun, was born. Joongki’s first understanding of love was an unconscious feeling of love for his parents but looking into his sister’s eyes he realized truly what conscious and deliberate love was.

The two of them were inseparable joined at the hip since she could babble her first words. They were a small happy family but Joongki learned quickly that happiness never lasts.

Here Come the Regrets by Epik High

It started off as worry. His parents had gone out saying they were going to pick up some dinner. It was Joongki’s birthday. He was turning 12 and he thought they had really gone out to get his birthday cake.

Minutes turned into hours and hours soon turned into days. Joongki thought maybe they had gotten into an accident or maybe they had gotten lost. He checked the news to see if anything came up but he had found nothing.

Soon they had run out of food and Joongki took Sunny out to the grocery store and the image of a small child holding a crying baby led to the police being called and questions being asked.

They were both placed into the foster care system and separated into different households.

Joongki would do his best to see Naeun everyday peeking his head through the window standing on his tippy toes to see her in her bassinet. Soon he grew taller and no longer needed to tippy toe to see his little sister. They were growing up.

Joon knew that when he turned 18 they would kick him out but his plan was to adopt Sunny that day and they would be a family again.

Seesaw by Suga

While those days were the hardest he did have moments that made him truly happy. Specifically a boy with a box smile who he met while playing in the park with his foster family.

Soon he would be able to put a face to the name and him and Daejung became fast friends. It took him a while but soon he told the older boy his “mother” wasn’t his mother and that he was in the foster care system.

It always made him smile how Daejung aka Moonie would promise up and down that he would get them both out. He knew it wasn’t true but the false hope it gave him made his chest warm. But he knew happiness doesn’t last forever.

Happen Ending by Epik High

He never understood why adults whispered like kids couldn’t hear them, especially 14 year olds.

Joon had learned that the police were able to locate his parents. They were found heading on a plane back to South Korea and were succesful.

This meant him and Naeun were officially wards of the state making them eligible for adoption. While Joongki was probably too old to be adopted Naeun was the perfect age according to the social worker.

The next time he went to visit her she was being held by another family as they spoke to the social worker. A pit in his stomach grew. He was losing the only family he had left.

Run By BTS (Get it)

He had only one choice. To get his family back.

He waited as long as he could but the night before the adoption he knew this was his last chance. Joongki grabbed his bags and packed his things. He knew his foster family wouldn’t miss him so he left no note.

Joongki broke into Naeun’s house and took her away. He remembered holding her in his arms. They had both grown; she was two years old now and he was a teenager.

However when they looked in each other’s eyes he smiled as she giggled and held his hand. It wasn’t too long.

He ran as fast as he could with her away from that place to the only place he could think of.

That’s what led them to the doorstep of Moon who graciously took them in.

Things go pretty fast from here

Joongki and Naeun end up moving into the Moon residence.

Joongki renames Naeun so that he can enroll her into school. He names her Sunny after her smile.

Joongki doesn’t go to school since he is afraid that it could lead to them getting found out by the police. Instead he cleans up a tattoo shop full time. He ends up spending his breaks watching the artists at work and soon he falls in love with the craft.

The owner becomes his teacher and mentor and soon Joongki is able to wield a tattoo gun as easily as a pen.

His first tattoo is on Daejung and his brother and it’s still one of his favorite works to this day.

Sunny grows up and meets Mimi and the two become inseparable.

They all grow up together and even though Daejung moves off to college Joon still visits him as if they still live together.

Thats when he meets @song-minjoon (cue Kdrama music) admiration turns to fascination to turns to infatuation and a big stupid crush on his hyung.

Life finally seems to be getting back on track but again happiness doesn’t last forever.

Daejung heads off on tour dropping out his sophomore year and the house became tense after that.

Moon’s father kept talking to Joon about becoming an independent person and that if he didn’t he could lose Sunny. In fear of losing her Joongki moved out and moved to Springhill, NJ with Sunny.

He first told Eomma Moon that it was his idea but soon the truth came out. While they were trying out a new Korean restaurant the family was reunited and Eomma Moon asked whether they wanted to move back in while Joongki tried to get his career set. (Joongki is still thinking about his answer)

Joongki currently works at the local tattoo shop while also working as the personal tattoo artist for Daejung’s brothers band and any other artists he meets along the way.

He hopes one day he can start his own business and really make Sunny proud.

Name: Ceryneian “Nia” (Latona) Camoran

Age: 23 at the beginning of the plot. I imagine the total of the main game and DlC are about 3 or 4 years so by the beginning of Elsweyr she’s about 26 or 27

Race: Bosmer. Her father was an Altmer and her maternal Grandfather was an Imperial, though she takes a decent amount from her Father. Hence her goldenish skin and her deep blue green eyes.

Class: Warden, emphasis on the Animal companions

Personality: A arrogant and boastful young woman. She takes her status as nobility seriously and tends to look down on “commoners”. She’s on the condescending side of things for sure.

She has the same temper and stubbornness as her sister and will hold a grudge for any insult, real or perceived.

That being said she is far less drawn to violence then her sister, and is far more honorable and noble. She may look down on “commoners” but she takes her duty to protect them very seriously and her first question in any military or political plan is “how will this affect my people?”.

Backstory:

The younger sister/ cousin of The Vestige, Ava (known by most as Syke). Born of a very short relationship between Lara Latona and an unnamed Altmer.

She was only about 5 when Ava’s parents were killed and she remembers very little of them, enough to be sad when thinking of them at least. She also remembers her mom and grandmothers constant, loud, arguments and the fact that they increased 10 fold after the death of Ava’s parents.

She does not however, remember much of living in Valenwood. After the death of Ava’s parents, taking Ava in, and the arguments with her grandmother, Lara decided to leave Valenwood with both the girls and go to her own hometown of Anvil, and that's where Nia remembers living the most.

When she was around 10 or so Ava brought home some orphan Khajiit kid she found on a job in Elsweyr and her mother’s kind of a softie. So the khajiit, named Thera, ended up her older adopted brother. Her, Thera and Ava were thick as thieves, but her and Thera were especially close. Both were very loved by their family, but both felt like outsiders for different reasons.

Much like her cousin (who her mother basically adopted when she was orphaned, hence her usually being referred to as her sister) she was raised among the Dark Brotherhood, literally toddling around the sanctuaries. Unlike her sister she didn’t take to the brotherhood nearly as much. Nia found herself wandering among the towns of Anvil and Kvatch or in the nearby wilderness and also unlike her sister made friends outside of the brotherhood. She found herself disagreeing more and more with what the brotherhood taught and came to value life for its intrinsic value and wanted to protect it.

She was also extremely taken with tales of royalty and nobility, mainly with her own family. The older she got the more baffling it was to her that none of her immediate family had any interest in it. That her Uncle and mother denied it, that grandmother and aunt ran from it and that her sister actually resented it, she couldn’t understand why. To be in charge simply because of her own bloodline, to be allowed to actually change the rules and make things better? That sounded amazing to her. The living in the lap of luxury thing was just a bonus.

The brotherhood usually wouldn’t allow someone so young to join but they allowed her sister to join at 15 simply because she was basically a member anyway, they offered the same to Nia when she was 15, but she already had other ideas.

Short version? She faked her own death. Really convincingly. And then ran off to Valnewood. She stole some official birth certificates and such and between that and the fact she looks JUST like her grandmother (Nia has her horns) it wasn’t to hard to convince the King of Valenwood that she is in fact his great niece and since he has no kids suffice to say she in now real damn close to inheriting the throne in Valenwood.

After a couple years she was officially announced to the general public and she came out with some official statements. Mostly putting down her family completely. Putting her grandmother down for running away from her own duties to the throne in Valenwood and marrying some Imperial noble and disappearing completely after he died. Her mother and Uncle for ignoring and denying their thrones in both the Gold Coast and Valenwood, and her adopted sister for the same.

She gracefully left out a few things that might damage her own reputation, namely anything to do with the dark brotherhood. But she also left out some choice details about her Uncles wife (ava’s mother) and that she was Abnur Tharns daughter. That her uncle was a bastard and her Grandmothers whole affair with the Khajiit were left out entirely as well.

The Latona family was already sort of a joke among Tamrielic Nobility (mostly among Imperial nobility and any noble families that had any real stake among Imperial politics). By most they were thought of as harmless and not even a threat, mocked for their refusal to the throne. Now they were actual outcasts.

This was of course the first Lara and her siblings had heard from her for years and they were...unhappy. To say the least. But they figured that if that’s where Nia wanted to be, if thats what made her happy and if she really hated them that much. They weren’t going to drag her back.

But the years past as they do and while Nia never once regretted leaving, she did come to regret how she did it and how she destroyed her family name. She was to prideful to ever come out at really apologize, but it did weigh on her and she did stop saying those things.Toning down what she had already said, and emphasizing the good parts of her family. It was to late really, but she tried her best.

When the 3 banners war started she dedicated herself to the Dominion. She wholeheartedly believed in the Queen and her cause, and if nothing else believes that working with the Dominion would end best for Valenwood.

Main plot

She was about 23 when the main plot started

She was of course surprised when the Queens best agent Razum-dar came up and perfectly described her sister not only in appearance but in personality including details that she never told anyone, and then asked if she like to see her.

She agreed as was excited to finally see her sister again for the first time in almost 10 years, she desperately wanted to apologize and was extremely put out to say the least when Ava’s first reaction was to knock her ass out without being able to say one word.

Pissed off enough that she ended up telling Razum-dar everything about Her and Ava’s shared past with the brotherhood and that ended up with some drama better detailed in Ava’s profile. But suffice to say that Raz was angry, Ava was angrier and Ayrenn already knew.

Once she calmed down enough and heard Ava’s side of the story, she decided. Alright, If Ava (or Syke as the Dominion crew had taken to calling her) wasn’t going to forgive her she was going to earn it, whether Ava wanted her to. She started following Ava around and assisting her with the main Dominion Quest after that

Ava tried to lose her, but between the years of assassin training and years of hunting in Valenwood, Nia’s damn hard to shake when she wants to be.

Her reunion with her adopted brother, Jo’Thera,in the later half of the Valenwood questline isn’t any less hostile, but it's less violent and far more scathing. When she left Thera and Ava really only had each other and became extremely close, they kinda left her behind. It’s the first time it really hits her how much she hurt them and the whole family.

The plot goes on and her and Jo’Thera are left behind when Ava goes into Cold Harbor, and they reconcile with each other somewhat. Not completely yet. But it starts at least.

How she goes through the DLC is gonna be covered in another post

COMIC TEA PARTY- THURSDAY BOOK CLUB START!

Good evening, everyone~! Our final Thursday Book Club is officially beginning! Today we are discussing Maiden of the Machine by Caitlin Like~! (https://maidenmachine.com/)

Remember that Thursday discussions are completely freeform! However, every 30 minutes I will drop in OPTIONAL discussion questions in case you’d like a bit of a prompt. If you miss out on one of these prompts, you can find them pinned for the chat’s duration. Additionally, remember that while constructive criticism is allowed, our focus is fun and respectfully appreciating the comic. All that said, let’s begin!

QUESTION 1. What is your favorite scene in the comic so far and why?

i think my favorite scene so far is when elizabeth and victor decide to sleep together. part in for its serious drama. theres so many questions about victor created from just the visuals, and then theres the stakes at hand of elizabeth's reputation. but then, there is also a good balance of comic relief to a degree since victor told her to ask no questions and she asks the one question that he probably didnt see coming. all around it was a pretty satisfactor culmination of their relationship so far at a juncture that felt natural.

another scene i really enjoyed was the ball scene where victor and eric are having a chat about elizabeth and then elizabeth and victor have a passionate liason. im mostly a fan cause of the dramatic convo. cause theres a deep and terrible sense that both characters truly know what their risking, what the situation is, and how they still are into each other. plus, its all very tense cause it just takes one person being in the wrong place at the wrong time to blow their cover.

honestly i think itd be accurate to say all my favorite scenes are with elizabeth and victor. romance is one of those genres i can struggle with, because theres always something missing. but oh man do i love the romance in this comic. there is nothing more i want than to see then elizabeth and victor finding a way to be together in spite society trying to kick that down at every turn.

i will give a special shout out to the scene where eric, abhaya, milo, and the cousin are meeting to discuss the affairs of the estate. i just like it because it basically shows all the characters' worst sides. abhaya is brash and reckless, milo is just kind of there, and eric is a greedy mofo. and whats worse is literally none of them thought to bring elizabeth. they may have their excuses of protecting her...but part of me still thinks thats a super dick move and shows even abhaya just kind of views elizabeth more as a pawn than a person. but all in all, nothing like money and estates to show off everyone's worst traits. it is very true to life, and i can respect that.

another non-victor/elizabeth scene i respect is the scene where elizabeth is out dress shopping and eric is like here i got you these dresses. just cause i knew eric was kind of a creep, but ho boy, he dialed the creep up to number 11 on a 10 meter scale. but at the same time, i think that really helped to erase all sympathy i might have had for him. thus paving the way for me to not really feel guilty on elizabeth's behalf for her trespasses against him.

i also like scenes with west in them. cause I like that between all the people around Victor, West seems the most honest in a scoundrel sort of way. Which that is basically what I like about him in every scene. He causes trouble and pushes the limits, but at the same time hes always at least pretty upfront about his intentions.

Which kind of sucks, I like the whole concept of the kick ass ladies. Even the pirates.

Maybe I'll find time to read more in the background.

The bit I liked most of what I read I think was back in the first chapter, when Elizabeth makes the callback to when she got out of the ropes at the very start of the story. It was a nice subtle detail which I found very clever.

How does the narration framing seen where Elizabeth is addressing her potential son affect your opinion? How do you think that future came about, and how soon will it come to pass? Last, what do you think of their relationship in terms of Elizabeth wanting to make her own choices in life?

yeah i have to say if theres one thing i appreciate its combination of progressive themes while at the same time acknowledging that the period was not the friendliest towards these things

especially in regards to how elizabeth is treated since her only purpose apparently to everyone is to get hitched to a titled guy

and i mean

thats depressing

yet also true to the period

even though we get to see elizabeth take a journey and reject those social conventions

in regards to the current question, i am choosing not to think about whether in the long term elizabeth and victor will get together for the rest of their lives. because if they dont i will cry but i could see this realistically being the case given the tone of the narration. cause that...does not sound like an elizabeth who lives in eternal happiness.

Back, sorry. Yeah, I'm usually not much of one for period pieces, but I like the narrative viewpoint. Also, pretty neat airships.

There was the point where she talked about leaving Victor behind back in Chapter 1 (I don't recall the exact circumstances) but I wondered if it was because he causes her heartache, or just because it make their lives more complicated.

Incidentally, the first thing I thought of with the name "Lovelace" was Lady Ada Lovelace. The mathematician. Not sure if that was an intentional reference to another well regarded woman.

yes. and i also kind of like it starts off more action-y. not that there isnt action bits later mind you. but more i think it helps set up the main conflict while tying in the romance. because it makes it so the romance isnt some forced subplot. rather its kind of integral and has as much to do with the whole highjacking as the rest of the story. since later on youll see that elizabeth's proximity to victor keeps bring that part of the story into the limelight

The cutting back and forth between the two sisters in Chapter 3 is well done.

yeah in general i like the PoV switching of the comic. because every scene is pretty well-chosen and advances the plot in some manner. and it lets us see others parts of the comic developing. cause later on you do get to see more of victor without elizabeth some and get to go "hmm" to all that hes up to.

QUESTION 3. Besides romance, there is a larger plot posing real and deadly danger to the characters. Who do you think the Angel is? What are the Angel’s goals, and why is she excessively targeting Victor? Further, what do you think the source of her power is? Also, what does have kidnapping people like Ambrose have to do with her goals? Alternatively, is Ambrose there of his own free will (and if so, why)? Considering Abhaya is being sought by Amabel for help, what do you think Abhaya will do? Will Abhaya be able to uncover more of the truth, or is Abhaya just going to get herself into more trouble? How will Abhaya’s involvement affect Elizabeth and herself? Last, can Amabel be trusted, or is it possible she’ll abandon Abhaya when Abhaya might need her?

Related to those questions, I do wonder a bit if Victor has a sordid past or something. Like maybe his empire wasn't entirely built on the up-and-up... with his knowledge or possibly without it. So there could be a reason there for him to be targeted.

I've looked on the character page and I approve this ship.

oh yeah. Victor is 100% definitely a scoundrel. There is one scenes that really hints at this, but even before that i agree with you. Victor is not on the up and up entirely. I don't think he made his fortune without cracking a few skulls.

In regards to the current question while you're away, I think Abhaya will help Amabel and get herself caught and get into a whole mess of trouble that for once, Elizabeth will have to break her out of. But I think it'll be a dual sword cause I do think Elizabeth's relationship to both Abhaya and Victor is gonna put her in the crosshairs. cause like, what an easy way to get Victor to show up. Get Elizabeth, tell Victor you'll never see her again if you don't show up.

as for the angel's goals, I feel shes on a path of vengence against the entire world, but particularly victor cause hes high up there in the industrialist chain

and knows something she doesnt and that she needs to bring her plans to fruition

How do you think Victor managed to overcome this to become the person he is today? Also, what do you make of the room Victor seemed to have sealed off in his house? Besides Victor, there is also a lot of drama between Jules, Abhaya, and Milo. What do you think happened between the three of them that managed to damage their relationship forever? Will spending more time together heal their wounds, or is it impossible at this point? Further, what was Jules up to the whole time he was away with Victor? Last, what do you think Jules’ goals were for introducing Elizabeth and Victor, and why does he seem immensely conflicted about her presence?

I think Victor was some fellow servant kid who was Jules' only friend after Jules got sent away. And then Victor almost died. Although I'm changing my previous speculations. Maybe the Angel is more literal and she literally showed up, saved Victor with tech with the promise to return, and then left. So now shes back for her comeuppance. Meanwhile, Victor decided technology was great and he needed to bring it to the world cause it was what would keep him alive and save others.

as for the three, at this juncture it seems pretty heavily implied Milo and Jules were in a relationship and that Milo called off the wedding to Abhaya cause he didnt want to live a lie in regards to how he felt about Jules. Regardless of the what, while Milo i feel will legitimately forgive and forget, I dont feel Abhaya or Jules will. Abhaya cause she doesnt seem the type to ever forgive ever. And to just hold onto her hatred and seethe. Jules in the meantime I think wont forgive until he gets revenge in some way. Cause the two probably betrayed his trust big time and he kind of got the most screwed over by what happened

i think Jules wanted them to meet for the exact reason that the others implied: they want Victor to warm up to the idea of women so he can get married. However, I feel Jules now feels like a jerk who is taking out his anger at Abhaya on Elizabeth who had 0% to do with what happened between the three. and yet he knows hes in too deep to turn back now.

I wondered about Milo and Jules. My initial thought had been that Abhaya had called off the engagement though, so that's an interesting other look at things.

Jules and Elizabeth were close too, back in the day. One wonders if he's that good at seeing how things play out long term.

Yeah, Jules seems to think he's got everything well in hand but he doesn't seem to account for the human factor.

Made it to the end of Chapter 4/Act 1 now. Apparently the Angel kidnaps people to literally graft wings onto her spine. Ouch.

Interesting callback to Victor's wounded leg though.

Maybe that thing that Victor has in the factory is a time machine. Turns out he's actually from the future, he brought back all the technology and that's why the Angel is after him, she thinks it's stolen.

also about the art, i really love the steampunk designs. you can definitely tell the steampunk inspiration in them, yet theyre really unique and not really like any steampunk ive seen before

Let's talk about Sansa and Littlefinger

Im rewatching season 1-6 slowly lately, and Ive just finished S4.

Ok, I wanna talk about Sansa and Littlefinger. A lot of people confuse this story line or flat out twist it to fit their “I hate Sansa” narrative. The scenes are there, so lets go through them.

I think LF has always given Sansa the creeps. The first thing he ever says to her is a creepy, gory story about The Hound and The Mountain. She looks frightened, and LF looks so goddamn pleased to have freaked her out. He wanted her to feel scared. Paraphrasing - “Don’t tell anyone I just told you that or you’ll be a dead little girl.”

Is this him starting to groom her to keep secrets? To listen to him? To desensitize her to horrible acts?

While shes stuck as a hostage in KL, LF offers her a way out. Going with him on his boat. Their conversation is off screen so we don’t know what was said or how Sansa reacted. She has to politefully let him down later when she decides to marry Loras instead. Petyr knows about the marriage plot, and he *punishes her* for choosing someone else over him.

Think about it - Sansa has two options: go on a ship out of KL with Petyr, who she barely knows and gives her the creeps, or marry Loras, who is the handsome knight shes always dreamed of but means she cant go back home right away. She chooses marriage over Petyr. And it angers him, because its not what he wants, and he punishes her by ruining her plan.

He sets it up to make sure she *regrets* not going with him. When she hears shes to marry Tyrion, she cries and watches Petyr leave, regretting turning him down and watching her chance for escape float away.

When she flees The Purple Wedding, she doesn’t know where shes going. She just knows that this once-a-knight wants to help her because she saved his life. When someone you think “owes you” offers you safety and a chance to escape - you take it. Especially after you have seen chance after chance slip through your fingers because you made the wrong choices. She wasn’t about to let another chance slip through her fingers. So she went with him - not even knowing what was on the other side.

When she finally sees who was behind her escape, shes confused - not elated. And the very first thing LF does when shes on his boat is KILL Dontos right in front of her. And shes horrified. Shes seen death dozens of times, and she still screams.

Not only did this once-a-knight trick her and betray her *for money*, not loyalty, shes see what kind of person LF is. Petyrs very first act is one to cement in Sansa’s mind that he would lie to and kill anyone he pleases if it benefitted him. This is NOT a man she would “admire”. This is an act of intimidation and control.

So I want to make a few points here before continuing. 1 - Sansa has never fully trusted LF. 2 - Sansa didn’t even know she was going with LF when she escaped with Dontos. 3 - LF *does not* have her best interest at heart and doesn’t even try to hide his ruthlessness anymore.

Petyr full on *framed* Sansa for Joffreys murder. This was premeditated and fully zoned in on Sansa after she turned down his first offer at escaping. He has her now only by intimidation, manipulation and blackmail. She cant go anywhere else or with anyone else because LF has all the cards. If she were to go back to KL, she would die. Everyone in Westeros is looking for her. Her husband is on trial about to die. And no one would believe she was innocent.

Sansa is no less a hostage than when Arya is passed between hands, all hoping to get a reward for bringing her home or to relatives. Shes not with him by choice, unless her choice is “whelp, if I go anywhere else I’ll surely die. Might as well sit here and wait this out.”

Her discussions with Petyr are very guarded. She asks questions, tries to find answers. And when she asks him what he wants, theres always this little unspoken question behind her tone. All her life shes heard about raping and danger, been told shes so beautiful every man would love to have her, Joffrey threatened to rape her, she was nearly raped by peasants in KL… She is wary of LF true intentions. Surely, this older man who owns a brothel, wants *her*. He doesn’t even deny this.

She has lots of time to think about her situation, and think about Petyrs answers to her questions. Shes becoming more observant just to survive.

I think Sansa genuinely thought she was going to be safe and happy in The Vale. She had her mothers sister, she was in an impenetrable tower, she didn’t have to lie and hide anymore…she was really happy and felt safe for the first time in a long time. It looked like Petyr *really had* done her a huge favor. He saved her from KL. She must have been a fool to doubt him.

Until she realized “yo this bitch cray”. And then Petyr pretty much confessing his love/lust for Sansa.

Important lines here, me thinks. “What do we do to those who hurt the ones we love?” This would sound so lovely to hear after your entire family is murdered and you’ve been held captive and tortured. It sounds like he’s on her side. He will protect her. His loyalty is just because he loved her mother. Aw, thats so sweet. And refreshing to hear after years of being in KL having to say her father was a traitor.

When in reality, Petyrs responsible for her fathers death, for her misery, framing her for murder and conspiring against her family. He definitely has not protected the one he loves, or even protected Catelyn. Ever see a tear shed for Catelyns death? Nope. Not a one. This line is utter horse shit said only to make Sansa trust him more. Even if he *believes* he means it - its so so so not true and he’s deluding himself.

“You’re more beautiful than she ever was.” Is basically LFs way of saying “I love you”. Because he values pretty things, the finest things. He confesses his love/lust for her here. No doubt. Whats odd is that Sansa kind of *returns* his kiss for a moment before she pulls away. Whether this was a mistake by Sophie or actually meant to happen, I don’t know. He says he wants to protect her because he loved her mother, basically says he loves/wants her and then takes a kiss. Sansa thinks he pretty much just laid all of his cards on the table. She finally knows what he wants and why.

The “what do we do to those who hurt the ones we love line” IS KEY to what happens next. When Petyr kills Lysa, Sansa thinks its because Lysa was threatening Sansa’s life. She thinks Petyr is protecting her because he loves her. To a girl, this is also a form of power. “he’ll never hurt me, because he loves me.” or “he only did it because he loves me so much.” When in reality, Petyr was probably planning on killing Lysa the entire time.

Actually, he only agreed to marry Lysa ASAP when she started spouting off about how she killed Jon Arryn for him. She started talking and Petyr was like “oh this bitch is going to blab everything to everyone if I dont shut her up soon” so he marries her ASAP to confirm his claim on The Vale and to get rid of her before she opens her crazy mouth again. Her threatening Sansa was only icing on the cake to make Sansa more indebted to him.

People always yell about why she lied for LF at the trial. Why didn’t she just tell the whole story and stay with these people who loved her father in The Vale?

So why does Sansa lie to save LF? Because she thinks she owes him one. He just saved her life, so she will save his. And maybe she is started to return his feelings - maybe she thinks she can use his lust for her against him, too. Theres nothing for her in The Vale anymore - no more family except gross little Robin, no more friends, no real reason to stay. Sansa wants to continue down the path LF has started. She wants to go home. She wants revenge against those who hurt her family - and she likes what LF is cooking.

She thinks shes on to him. This scene plainly lays it out. She doesn’t trust strangers - and why should she after all shes been through? - and she thinks she knows what Petyr really wants. He wants her, he loves her. So he would NEVER hurt her, and only protect her. Shes making a bet against his feelings for her. Love is the death of duty, and men die protecting the ones they love. Staying with a rich and powerful Lord who is hopelessly in love with you is actually not a bad idea. Shes been fully manipulated at this point.

And Petyrs last words “Do you?” plant a HUGE seed of doubt. She was sure he wanted her - but oh shit, what if shes wrong? Shes already saved him, theres no turning back now.

IMHO, this isnt where Sansa starts playing the game, like many think. Sansa started playing the game when KotV rode in on BotB.

Petyrs creepy boner is now only raging after she lied to save him and went with him out of The Vale. He’s more brave about taking kisses and speaking openly. He has her under his thumb completely. But she still never fully trusts him. She notices when he hides letters. She questions him when it looks like he’s ready to leave at a moments notice. She freaks out when it finally dawns on her that LF is marrying her to Ramsay. But… LF loves her, right? He would never intentionally put her in danger. He must have a plan. So she actually trusts him and married Ramsay.

When Petyr mentions that he was a penniless boy from nowhere amongst kings and lords - she smiles. Because Petyr started from nothing and has built himself up to a rich man in KL. This is another line told to Sansa to reinforce this idea that Petyr knows what hes doing. Hes smarter than her, more powerful and more cunning. And if he did it for himself, he can help her do it, too. With his help he can take her from a traitors daughter with no name or family to a powerful lady just like him.

Petyr promises her its only temporary, and he will return soon and Stannis will save her and soon she will be Wardeness of the North and have her home back to herself. Notice how she doesn’t smile at the idea of being Wardeness - she actually seems fearful of it. She doesn’t want to be Wardeness - its almost like shes about to say “I cant”. People think Sansa wants power and to be Queen. This reaction to Petyr telling her to be Wardeness says the exact opposite - it wasn’t on her mind and she doesn’t want it. Petyr plants that seed - Petyr wants it for her. Not the other way around.

Then, LF leaves her to Ramsay and fucks off. She escapes because its way WAY worse than she could have imagined. Stannis failed - how stupid was she for listening to LF - and Petyr is nowhere to be found.

When LF shows up in Moles Town to offer her KotV she is fully and completely enraged with him. She is angry that she trusted him. She sees him now for what he is - a liar and only out for himself. He hurt he. He must not truly love her. She was wrong to trust him.

And Ive spoken a lot about WHY Sansa goes to him for aid for BotB and, frankly, I dont have enough space or time to explain why here. Lets just say, Petyr is that toxic boyfriend you run back to when times get tough because you know them. It wasnt because she didnt trust Jon and she did trust LF - it was because she didnt trust FATE and she took her safety and Jons safety into her own hands since no one listened to her.

So, remember when Sansa said “I know what you want” to LF after the trial and LF made her doubt it? Everything he did since made her doubt it. Now, directly mirror it with this scene.

“You know what I want”

“I was wrong.”

“No. You weren’t.”

Maybe we’ll see Sansa use Petyr’s affection toward her even more so in Season 7. I sure hope so.

Design Document

Basic Navigation

The plan for No Shame About HIV is to be a soundscape interactive website. As users get onto the website there will be elements that the user can click on, these elements consists of the stories about the people that are affected by HIV. The user will be greeted with a brief description of the settings of the narrative among other instruction and then the user would click on the screen the character elements to begin their stories. The navigation is very simple for the users to consume and explore as the sound and narration is the sole focus for this project. Users can click between user interface elements to hear the different tone and emotions from the main characters stories.

User Interactivity: Engagement

The user will be kept engaged by the various different possibilities and their respective outcomes. There will be three sections where the user can engage from. The soundscape of each element will hopefully be engaging for the user to explore the different UI elements the website has.

User Interface Elements

The UI elements consists of clicking on buttons to hear the main characters stories. There will be three sections the users can click on. 1) Left side of the website will consist of the main characters names - users click on which name they would like to hear their story. Also the main picture will change to see who this character is. 2) Right side of the website consist of different story elements in the main character scripts - the script will be categories for easy understand for the user in which the main character is narrating. 3) Button on the website consist of the HIV status of the main characters will go through. This aspect is important because each element has the narrator narrating the story in a different emotion - For example: HIV negative and HIV positive will have the narrators sound in either a melancholy or dysphoria tone - the impact here is to let the audience feel that when people (mainly gay male ) are HIV negative and no drug protection there is a chance to get HIV. Also when people (mainly gay male ) get contact with HIV and become HIV positive there also thats a huge setback and very sad. While HIV negative with drugs and HIV positive with drugs will have indifference tone to them because when people are on drugs they have protection and they will not have to worry as much. The goal here is for the audience to understand that people that have drug protection live in a more easy life than people who are HIV negative and people who just contracted HIV because they are not protect. Also people who are HIV positive and taking drugs are actually very normal and safe people. Mainly the goal here is to end the stigma on HIV and educate people the real facts about HIV.

Story Segments

As mentioned, the story will be split into various segments.

1) Coming Out: Characters will describe their upbringing - how their love ones treated them after telling them they were gay. Some coming out stories will share different perspectives since everyone has a different coming out story some were easy while others were hard.

2) First Dates: Characters will share their first dates with a guy and how it went.

3) Sex History: Characters will describe their sex history. They will share information on their first times, times where they did not use protection, interesting stories and personal moments.

4) HIV: Characters will share what they know about HIV and share information on people they knew that have gone gone through it. Also some will share some stigma about HIV.

Story segments are subject to change depending on script development.

Character Design

There are 4 main characters in this narrative. Narrative Script will be in first-person.

Mark Twan, he is HIV positive for 14 years, now 34. He was very frightened when he first got the news. He was dating a guy who didn’t really know and he was very callous and knew of his status. He was studying at his university when he got the news and was living away from home. He had to carry on regardless at university, although some of his friends were concerned when they notice he lost a lot of weight at one point. He went through a few years of being in denial, not even reading anything which discussed HIV in the gay press. He went out and drinked a lot to escape the truth. Then there was a turning point for him that made him re-evaluated his life and HIV. He started to go to clinics and was on meds. Now his viral load in now undetectable and he has learned a lot about himself since his first diagnosis and knows now how to deal with things. He is afraid of the reaction if he tells the person he is dating if it goes into a long term relationship. But it will take his time and now believes that HIV is part of his life but it does not control his life.

Ken Hummel is 22 years old and just recently found out that he was HIV positive. He had requested to have a test done because he did not feel right. He knew that he worked long hours and stuff. But he knew something was not right and he was not going to stand by passing it off as another cold. His doctor look at him and said; well everything came out negative except for one test and I don’t know how to tell you this, but Curt, you are HIV positive. He broke down right there in the doctor's office with his sister beside him. He knew his life was over when he step out of his doctor’s office. Most people were standoffish at first but he had a little class with everyone at work about what the virus is, what it does and what risk it has on them. He began drinking heavily every night, as he tends to cover up anything that he can’t deal with. He drank and drank until he could not feel the pain anymore. That night he went to a friend’s place. His best friend knew what he was going through but kept wondering why he could not talk about it with her of all people. He went home to see his mother. His mother comes in and she tells him. Curt you cannot let this disease control you like this. At that moment, it made Curt wise up. But it still hard for him everyday because his friends were not sitting with me during break time because they were afraid of what they didn’t know. Curt knows that he has a lot more to go through with HIV. But he needs to trust the people that they aren’t going to judge him, but help him, and be there for him.

Russel Diaz is a 25 year who is HIV negative and taking Truvada PrEP to stay HIV negative. The drug involves more than just taking a pill a day He has been on for four years now. He is in a relationship with an HIV-positive man, and got engaged. They are in a very happy and open relationship, so he continues to take PrEP - mostly for encounters outside of the relationship. He thinks what is most existing about PrEP, and treatment as prevention, is that he thinks tearing down walls between HIV-positive and HIV-negative men in the community. He doesn’t know if the story really been told, about the power of PrEP to fight stigma but also build a community that’s not divided in the same way that it once was.

Johnny Neeforth is a 55 year who is just left a relationship with his wife. He told his wife and four adult kids about his sexuality. His kids were very supporting of their dad. His wife took it hard at first but over time forgave him and they both still have a friendship. He has several friends that were affected by HIV. He now lives on his own and trying to organize his new life as a gay man.

Character design are subject to change depending on script development. Also whether or not I will be using real people.
