thinking about john's multitude of short-lived, often quickly-abandoned apartments for some reason, so a couple details:
although you might expect to find a very wizard-y interior to any place he's currently living at — you know, grimoires, skulls, dust, clutter, etc. — his flats actually tend to be fairly spartan in terms of decor; they've even been accused of looking modern, here and there. he just moves too frequently to really settle in & accrue Things, and has so often had to simply up & leave everything he currently owned behind (with very little chance of getting any of it back) that he no longer attaches much meaning to household objects.
besides the consistent presence of at least one bookshelf with at least 12 books on it, and a sad sprig of garden sage that miraculously hasn't died yet, the one exception to his lack of personal touch is his extensive collection of records + tapes, all of which he has repeatedly & methodically tracked down and bought / bid / traded / stolen / threatened for / blackmailed for / simply taken back whenever an enterprising landlord or new tenant left him the opportunity to do so. his record player itself has never needed to be taken back, since it has always mysteriously vanished from whatever flat he's leaving and mysteriously appeared wherever he's staying; it's convenient like that. his 10th anniversary walkman, however, frequently goes missing, only to turn up again later in a place he KNOWS he checked when he's least expecting it.
lack of home decor isn't to say he doesn't own much, mind: the bulk of his personal possessions — assorted occult paraphernalia, blackmail documentation, miscellaneous crap from his mucous membrane days, and anything he is able to take with him from past flats — are usually stored off-site, in a secure location that can't easily be tied back to him. this guy's been accused of being a satanic killer on multiple occasions, he knows better than to keep all the real shit out where anyone can just swan in and see it.
currently, this storage location (which i lovingly call occult shit central) is an abandoned inner london storefront + adjoining flat that was formerly his old friend ray monde's shop and home, called brick-a-brac antiques. it's decidedly cozier than the last place, (in that there are chairs, plural,) and has fewer bear traps laid out in anticipation of unlucky thieves; in fact, if a person were to visit without already knowing where constantine actually lives, it'd be easy to mistake it as his expectedly-wizardy flat. it's not an ideal location for an occult shit central, too close to the heart of the city and too close to people to avoid drumming up suspicion should constantine attempt any sort of ritual inside, but until chas finally quits ducking the paperwork and signs over his storage lot (which he may or may not be dragging his feet on out of pure resentment for having to do it at all) ray's place is the best option there is.
constantine's previous (and future) storage location was a lock-up in streatham that chas had been letting him use (see: all but surrendered to him entirely) since he got out of ravenscar, but after constantine's sister died, john decided he was done with magic and, in a spontaneous fit of rage, burnt the place down with everything but a few necessities still inside. he regretted this later, when he inevitably returned to the occult scene after just over a year away, and spent a lot of time calling in favors / hypnotizing arson inspectors to try and put together an inventory of everything he'd lost.
in the nearly 20 years since the fire, he's managed to replace or find substitutes for about 2/3 of what he had (occult-wise), and gather enough fresh dirt / do enough favors / orchestrate enough compromising situations to accumulate a little over 1/4 of the political / interpersonal power he once maintained. ( the lack of success in the latter being, in part, because people now in power aren't as familiar with his name & reputation as they once were; in part because people just don't believe in magic as much as they used to, or were otherwise bought by hell / heaven / other parties a LONG time ago; and in part because he's come to absolutely fucking despise most politicians / people in power more than he is willing to work with them, or more than he is able to plausibly believe they won't try to drop him at the first opportunity. )
you would be hard-pressed to find a landlady/landlord that speaks kindly of this man. if he wasn't kicked out for suspicious smells / disturbing noises / sudden infestations / suspected satanic activity, then it's likely that he abruptly up and disappeared in the middle of the night, with no warning and no rent. (on a few occasions, this vanishing act also coincided conspicuously with a gruesome death on the premises, sometimes of the landlady/landlord themselves, although no one's ever been able to prove anything.) frankly it's . . . magic, that people still rent to him.
due to these aforementioned bad ends, he's incredibly lucky if he gets enough time or leeway to take any sort of furniture with him from one place to the next. however, there is one incredibly comfy, wing-backed, sapphire-blue armchair that's miraculously managed to survive every move in the last ten or so years without being reported stolen — even though it has survived every move because it has, in fact, been stolen in the dead of night nearly every single time, by john and at least one of his buddies.

10th Anniversary
Ayumi Hamasaki: A Classical (2013.01.08)
Aside from the predominantly house and electronic-based remixes that comprise the bulk of Ayumi Hamasaki’s remixography, there's an acoustic orchestral side, beginning with the Acoustic Orchestra albums that fell under the ayu-mi-x banner, and which eventually morphed into full orchestral re-imaginings, as in MY STORY Classical (2005), A Classical (2013), LOVE CLASSICS (2015), and Winter diary ~A7 Classical~ (2015).
A Classical was released during Ayumi's 15th anniversary celebrations, and in the third of five consecutive months of releases. Seven of the songs were chosen by her TeamAyu fan club members and rearranged by Kousuke Yamashita. I'm assuming all of the legacy tracks were chosen by fans, while the recently-released "You & Me," "Song 4 u," and "Missing" off of the LOVE EP released two months prior was selected by Ayu's actual team. Most of the songs chosen here work really well, in particular the ballads "SEASONS," "Days," and "Voyage," which were practically tailor-made for sweeping strings. The opener "M" has the best arrangement on here -- there's just something so perfect about this song that it works in almost any context that it's put into. That being said, I don't think it's as good as the arrangement on ayu-mi-x IV version Acoustic Orchestra (2002), which is still my favorite of the two. You can also compare some of these to other arrangements, like Akimitsu Honma's version of "BLUE BIRD" on ayu-mi-x 7 -version Acoustic Orchestra- (2011), and Ken Shima's arrangement of "Voyage" on the No way to say (2003) single.
Suffice to say, for some of these, like "SEASONS," for which we have other orchestral versions (on the SEASONS single and a slightly different version on ayu-mi-x III), over-kill is an understatement, while tracks like "You & Me" just sound awkward and unsuited to the gentle pace. "Love song" is interesting, too, as I'm not sure that it totally works, but I love that it's a song we've never heard with this kind of arrangement before. All that being said, it's still a serviceable collection, and the recordings sound particularly good here. Some of the earlier acoustic orchestra versions can sound a bit bare or synthetically created, while the music for this album was recorded with a live orchestra, making for a more dramatic and immersive experience (all the brass makes a really big difference). In fact, it would be great to have the bare instrumentals for these.
This album comes with an OBI, a fold-out sheet with credits listing the instrumentalists on each track, a promo sheet with details of the anniversary releases, and two separate sheets: a sheet of lyrics, and a fold-out poster of the album cover art. The cover art was drawn by Takashi Murakami, and is a pencil rendering of the cover of Ayu's LOVE EP. Personally, I am not a huge fan of this approach and think that it's both repetitive and unimaginative. It's really impressive to hand-draw something this realistic-looking, but it also comes off looking a bit like it was run through Photoshop. I feel the same way about the cover art of LOVE CLASSICS, which is another piece of fan-art based on the cover of the Zutto... single, but also looks like a Photoshop filter. You can consider these jackets like soft “remixes” of the originals, just like the musical content of the CD, so your ability to be moved by that idea is a matter of opinion.
Regardless, this album is overall solid, if perhaps unnecessary. I don't think any of these versions are any better than other orchestral arrangements that we've gotten in the past, aside from the added bonus of having an actual live orchestra, which is the definite reason to hear this. The instrumentals are quite accomplished: sweeping, romantic, and altogether lovely. The vocals of course vary depending on when they were recorded. It's easy to choose some of Ayu's most well-known ballads for these arrangements, in terms of popularity and adaptability, but I would love to hear orchestral versions of album cuts that we haven't gotten before like "Heartplace," "Over,” "Dolls," "JEWEL," or "rainy day." I guess I'll keep dreaming for now.

Introducing Mizuki's recommended songs!
Here are 10 recommended songs from Mizuki's famous songs! We have selected from classic live songs to nostalgic masterpieces, so if you plan to participate in future live performances, please check!
Deep bass and terrible hard sound ""Let's live at this moment-when-"
◆ Collected works 39th single "METANOIA" Released on July 17, 2019
◆Music information TV anime "Senki Zessho Symphogear XV" opening theme. A song with a magnificent finish that seems to be the opening of the 5th Symphogear series. It has a different approach from the previous series songs, and you can see different aspects from other series songs such as male chorus and rap. This is a Nana Mizuki song, with a feeling of "singing" to follow the work! A song that gives the impression of.
Recommended second song "STARTING NOW! ]
Nana-san's cheerful support song "I have a dream that only those who know everything can touch it"
◆ Recording work 36th single "STARTING NOW! 』2016.07.13 release 12th album "NEOGENE CREATION" 2016.12.21 release Best album "THE MUSEUM Ⅲ" 2018.01.10 release
◆Music information The cheering song "STARTING NOW!", which has a pleasant running feeling, is the opening theme of the TV anime "There is a problem with this art club!" While it's a refreshing rock tune that will support all your love and dreams, it's also a lively fun song. In the lyrics, there's "Please come!!", but the phrase is very Nana-like, reminiscent of the closing words of the radio "Nana Mizuki Smile Gang."
The song "Dream Coordinates-Zodiac-Gently Write" of the work
◆Recorded works 21st single “PHANTOM MINDS” 2010.01.13 release 8th album “IMPACT EXCITER” 2010.07.07 release Best album “THE MUSEUM II” 2011.11.23 release
◆Song information The single that recorded this song was the first voice actor in history to be “1st place on the Oricon weekly single chart”, and was also shown at the second appearance “61st NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen”. This song, which is the theme song for the movie version "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha The MOVIE 1st", is a companion song to "innocent starter", the opening theme of the first Lyrical Nanoha series.
The emotion expressed in "innocent starter" at that time is drawn in a different way. Of course, it's a lively song, but it's also a song that strongly reflects the work "Lyrical Nanoha".
Recommended 4th song "Shinai"
I'm sure I can't help but tell you "I can't reach you no matter how much I think"
◆Recorded works 19th single “Shinai” 2009.01.21 release 7th album “ULTIMATE DIAMOND” 2009.06.03 release Best album “THE MUSEUM II” 2011.11.23 release
◆Song information This song has achieved various records, including the Oricon single daily chart second place. The ballad, which is also the theme song of the TV animation "WHITE ALBUM", has the image of this work, and the melody reminiscent of a popular song is impressive.
Mizuki's various thoughts, such as the feelings of his father who died just before making the lyrics and the image of "WHITE ALBUM". A quick ballad inspires the lacrimal gland.
Recommended 5th song "Orchestral Fantasia"
This is exactly the "sea of strings" "Wandering in the sea of strings"
◆ 6th album “GREAT ACTIVITY” released on November 14, 2007
◆Song information
This song, which is loved by many fans even though it is an album song, is a work in which so-called strings such as acoustic guitar and violin stand out. It is a song full of Mizuki's taste, with the strings' fantasy melody and painful lyrics in harmony. The guitar quartet presented at "LIVE THEATER 2015" is a must-see.
Recommended 6th song "SUPER GENERATION"
Support song that will not fade even after many years "Let's go find the most important thing"
◆Recorded works 13th single “SUPER GENERATION” released on January 18, 2006 5th album “HYBRID UNIVERSE” released on May 05, 2006 Best album “THE MUSEUM” released on February 07, 2007
◆Song information Mizuki-san was the first song in charge of composition, and if you say Mizuki-san's style, it is the first child (Mr. Mizuki calls herself the song No. ◯◯). Even 14 years after its release, it is a support song that fascinates fans without fading at all. If it is performed live, the cheers of the audience will become louder. Especially, the last big chorus of "LaLaLa" can feel the unity like "Nana Mizuki's live!"
Recommended 7th song "ETERNAL BLAZE"
A sense of words that shines everywhere in the lyrics "Yes, surely it starts here..."
◆Recorded works 12th single “ETERNAL BLAZE” 5th album “HYBRID UNIVERSE” released May 05, 2006 Best album “THE MUSEUM” released February 02, 2007
◆ Music information Even if you are not very familiar with Nana Mizuki's music, there are a lot of people who know this music. This song is the theme song of the TV anime "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's" and is counted as one of Mizuki's successes.
The lyrics are written by Mizuki-san, and the words that have a unique reading, such as "Goddess-Tenshi-" and "Nightmare-Maboroshi-", are scattered everywhere. This song is a classic live song! I think that there are many people. In particular, the shout of "ETERNAL BLAZE!" during the interlude responded to Mizuki-san's agitation, and the excitement of the hot air in the venue explodes at once.
Recommended 8th song "Tears' Night"
Mizuki-san and Uematsu-san The origin of the tag! "Tears' Night Repeated Your Name"
◆ 4th album "ALIVE&KICKING" released on December 08, 2004
◆ Music information This is the first work by Noriyasu Uematsu (Elements Garden) and Mizuki, who work on many popular songs. A lyrical song that seems to be Mr. Uematsu's music, with a fantastic and speedy melody, and Mizuki's passionate singing voice makes you feel comfortable and somehow sad.
It was performed at the first full orchestra concert "NANA MIZUKI LIVE GRACE -ORCHESTRA-", and it is a masterpiece stage, so please check it out!
Recommended 9th song "New Sensation"
Representative presence of Mizuki-san's support song "One-off life should definitely be enjoyed"
◆ 7th single "New Sensation" 2003.04.23 release 3rd album "DREAM SKIPPER" 2003.11.27 release Best album "THE MUSEUM" 2007.02.07 release
◆ Music information Akio Mishima, who is in charge of producing many King Records artists including Mizuki, is also a support song that pushes the drum. It has been sung in many live shows so far, and was also shown at "LIVE EXPRESS 2019" held last year.
The lyrical lyrics and the melody with a deep groove make the listener feel energetic, and "Men energize" makes the song feel like Mizuki. In addition, it is a song that attracts attention to guest artists, such as welcoming Masami Okui to the chorus.
Recommended 10th song "POWER GATE"
The classic song that has been sung every year since its release "We can change the times"
◆ 4th single “POWER GATE” 2002.05.01 release 2nd album “MAGIC ATTRACTION” 2002.11.06 release Best album “THE MUSEUM” 2007.02.07 release
◆Song information Mizuki has sent many popular songs to the world. Of course, there are many songs that are standard songs for live performances, and it seems that it will become one album by itself. Among them, this song, "POWER GATE", is the most sung live and popular with fans.
You can feel the power of the singer "Nana Mizuki" no matter what the energy of the song and the sense of unity at the live performance. Mizuki-san sings in the song, "We can change the times," but a support song that is so compelling is rare.

TEN YEARS OF VINDICATING MICHAEL JACKSON. BY: — susannerb .
“Sometimes there are dates or anniversaries of which you don’t know whether to celebrate them or to mourn them. After Michael Jackson’s 10th death anniversary this year, we now have the 10th anniversary of the foundation of our Vindicate MJ blog. Exactly today 10 years ago, on November 21 in 2009, Helena sent this blog online into the world with these first words:
“Father, Forgive Them; They Don’t Know What They Are Doing…”, with Johann Sebastian Bach’s famous Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D Major called “Air” and with her explanation why she started this work.
Well, in view of the fact that nothing has changed since November 2009 and that we still have to fight for the truth, it’s hard to celebrate this 10 year anniversary. And meanwhile I believe it is fair to say that some things cannot be forgiven anymore – at least it is up to God to forgive the liars, our human souls are not able to do this. When faced with the ‘LN’ spectacle this year, it felt like we were thrown back to the beginning of our journey and have to start with educating people all over again.
However, what happened within these 10 years made us stronger and helped us to counter these new allegations with much more knowledge. There was so much research done by Jackson’s fans and supporters in this decade that we now can reply to every new claim and allegation with an enormous amount of facts like nobody else. This was harder in the beginning after Michael’s death than it is now. Of course, the media didn’t learn much during this time, they ignore most of the facts now as they did it in earlier years. This is a systematic approach! We cannot rely on their objective treatment of Michael Jackson and all the stories spread about him. When it comes to MJ, they are still not interested in doing the task assigned to them: detailed fact-checking and objective assessment and reporting of stories and allegations. But with all the research that was done by Michael Jackson “truthers” in an almost scientific manner since Michael’s death, we today can be very sure and convinced that we are right! That we are not mistaken! Because with every new fact we found out, our convictions were corroborated. And this is the joint work of international groups of bloggers, advocates and researchers, of which Helena is one of the most important.
On this day I want to highlight particularly the work done by Helena in the course of these 10 years, with so much passion that sometimes her health suffered severely from it. I remember the several public trials she covered arduously, writing posts every day and night, hardly sleeping during these weeks. I remember the attacks from MJ haters by impersonating the blog with lies and fake news. I remember her falling in a hurry and breaking her wrists which required her to stay in hospital for a while and leaving the blog to others, when she couldn’t write herself. The several times of absence from the blog always made the readers miss her very much – because she could not and never can be replaced. Her quick perception and excellent judgment and assessment of things are unparalleled and so much needed in difficult situations when false stories on Michael become overwhelming and people don’t know what to believe. In these times we need somebody with a clear view, with a wealth of knowledge and a good memory, leading us through the waves of rumors, untruths and biased reporting.
Certainly, nobody can do this amount of work on a daily basis for years. We need to stay healthy, we have families and have to care for other things and family members. So the temporal intervals between writing posts became longer over time, and it also didn’t seem necessary to repeat all facts any time new claims and lies on Michael came up. Principally, all was said on the allegations, and the facts speak for themselves. But this year was different. Leaving Neverland and the two liars and their director made us nearly vomit considering the filthiness and the impertinence of their lies. And also nauseating was the fact that the media and the entertainment industry embraced the film despite the transparency of the lies, as well as the fact that pedophilia doesn’t seem any longer a subject of disgust, but of entertainment and a new ideology (“children can enjoy sex with adults”). Moreover, the agenda to bring down Jackson’s legacy became so obvious. Seeing Robson and Safechuck going so far as to present themselves with their lies as movie stars (with even photo sessions showing them as the popstars they always wanted to be) was a shock – not a shock about the lies they told, because we already knew them – but a shock about how low some people can sink to make headlines and to take revenge.
The good thing that happened after the initial shock was the unity and the collective reaction of the fanbase and MJ advocates. And especially that many younger “MJ truthers” took over and stroke back on Twitter, YouTube and other social media, even in form of a great documentary, with joint forces and vast knowledge. This gives us a lot of hope. Helena and I are over 60 now, and we need the younger ones to take over and continue the work. It is necessary that younger fans carry forward the vindication work with the same passion and with new instruments and skills, and we are glad that we can rely on them. Now I would particularly like to say a big Thank you to Helena for her tireless work and commitment. She is one of the pioneers in the MJ blogger community that emerged after Michael’s death, and did a lot of the essential research we needed for today. And we hope that she will be here as long as possible and give us the light we need.
I think we can be thankful that we could keep the blog alive for 10 years now and that nobody could break us. Considering the new law controlling the internet in Helena’s home country, this cannot be taken for granted for the future. And now that a new Californian legislation enables Robson and Safechuck to return their cases to the trial court, there is possibly a lot more work to do and we are far from reaching our goal. But we hope for the best that we will be able to go on TOGETHER! The VMJ blog is an academic Chair for studying Michael Jackson, and it hopefully will exist another 10 years and longer, beyond our own lives, to educate next generations. This is our wish and we will take care that it remains safe. Thanks to all our readers who keep us going!
May God bless you, Helena !”

Catholic Daily Reading + Reflection, 8 October 2020
Tumblr media
Thursday 8th October 2020
Weekday (27) Vestment: Green Today’s Rosary: The Luminous Mystery IKOT EKPENE: Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of the episcopal ordination of Most Revd Camillus R Umoh, 9/10/2010.
FIRST READING
“Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith?” A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Galatians (Galatians 3 :1-5) O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified? Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun with the Spirit, are you now ending with the flesh? Did you experience so many things in vain? — if it really is in vain. Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith? The word of the Lord.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM Luke 1 :69-70.71-72.73-75 (R. see b8)
R/. Blessed be the Lord GOD of Israel, for he has visited his people. He has raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David, as he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old. R. That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all who hate us; to perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant. R. The oath which he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear, in holiness and righteousness before him all the days of our life. R.
ALLELUIA Acts 16:14b
Alleluia. Open our hearts, O Lord, that we may give heed to the words of your Son. Alleluia.
GOSPEL
“Ask, and it will be given you. ” A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke (Luke 11:5-13) At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “Which of you who has a friend will go to him at midnight and say to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; for a friend of mine has arrived on a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; and he will answer from within, ‘Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything’? I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him whatever he needs. And I tell you, Ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” The Gospel of the Lord.
Today’s Reflection
The basic mark that distinguishes religion is faith. As Christians, we are called to a life of faith which enables us to believe without doubting whatever God has revealed. One such great revelation that we have come to know as Christians is that God has great concern and love for us all. Why then should we lack the courage to ask for what we need, to knock at his door of mercy and abundance and to seek at his garden of fruits and gifts? The challenge often is with us and not God because we go searching and believing where God has not called us to. The question therefore for us all today is: do I express my faith wrongly by not knocking, seeking, and asking at the right place?

Direct from the Director, Summer 2020
Dear friends,   I hope this note finds you and your families all well - we’ve missed seeing you in the galleries over the last six months! The health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and community is our priority as the University moves forward with operations during the Covid-19 pandemic. As the Fairfield University campus is closed to outside visitors this fall, we regret to announce that the museum will also be closed to the public for the foreseeable future. We do, however, look forward to presenting you with a full slate of programming created in celebration of our 10th anniversary.
Tumblr media
We were very busy over the summer putting the finishing touches on our fall calendar, but we’d like to know if what we’re doing is working for you! Let us know what kind of online content you have most enjoyed, and what you are interested in seeing more of, by filling out our 2-minute programming survey.
Two wonderful exhibitions will open virtually in September, along with a calendar full of lectures, gallery talks, and events designed to enhance the experience.
The exhibition Ruby Sky Stiler: Group Relief features new relief paintings and figurative furniture-sculpture by New York artist Ruby Sky Stiler (b. 1979). Stiler has been investigating images of women inspired by the techniques and language of classical antiquity for over a decade. Recently, Stiler’s art has expanded to include the subject of “father and child.” The dearth of art historical precedent for depictions of men displaying emotional intimacy, or being defined by their relationship to their children, is in stark contrast to the abundant impressions of “mother and child.”
Curated by Ian Berry, Dayton Director of the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College, this exhibition will also include contemporary interpretations of the traditional museum “viewing bench” as a form of utilitarian sculpture. The exhibition will open with a virtual conversation between Stiler and Berry on September 10th.
Tumblr media
Among the works featured in the exhibition is a recent acquisition by the museum (pictured below), made possible by donations to our art acquisitions fund and the support of members of our 2010 Society.
Tumblr media
Andrew Forge: Limits of Sight is organized by scholar and guest curator Karen Wilkin, and features some 20 paintings and works on paper by British artist Andrew Forge (1923-2002). Forge was a painter and art critic, as well as the dean and professor of the Yale University School of Art from 1975-1994. His highly personal abstractions distill his perceptions of place, season, and time of day into subtle orchestrations of pure color. Lenders to the exhibition include numerous private collections, the artist’s widow Ruth Miller, and the collections of the Yale University Art Gallery and the Yale Center for British Art.
Tumblr media
As President of the CT Art Trail, I would also like to draw your attention to an exciting exhibition at the Wadsworth Atheneum opening on October 15th, Made in CT: Celebrating 25 Years of The Connecticut Art Trail, to which FUAM is lending artworks. The Art Trail—one of the first tourism trails in the state—has been guiding art aficionados across Connecticut on a journey that includes 22 world-class museums and historic sites for 25 years. In celebration of this milestone anniversary, Made in Connecticut brings together works of art and objects from the collections of each of the Art Trail member institutions.
Tumblr media
Curated by James Prosek, American artist, writer, naturalist, and Artist-in-Residence at the Yale University Art Gallery, the exhibition features paintings, drawings, prints and other works of art, alongside a number of decorative and industrial art objects including a rubber desk, an early typewriter, and a selection of historic buttons.
We spent time this summer creating “art kits”! We distributed over 500 to students at Bridgeport’s Turnaround Art Schools, CIRI (CT Institute for Refugees and Immigrants), Mercy Learning Center, and St. Thomas Aquinas School in Fairfield. This fall, we’ll be creating new kits on a monthly basis to accompany our virtual field trip program, as well as our new virtual Family Days, so please check the Eventbrite listings to sign up and join the fun!
Tumblr media
I hope you’ll join us in the months ahead to experience our fall exhibitions through our virtual tours and programming, and perhaps to participate in one of our virtual Family Days, Art in Focus programs, or meditation sessions. (Please register at Eventbrite). Thank you for your continued support of the Fairfield University Art Museum. I look forward to seeing you in one of our upcoming virtual programs, and I eagerly await the day when we can be together again in person.
With warm regards, Carey

Japanese cultural troupe in Manipur Sangai Festival, 2019
Amidst widespread protests and boycotts, the 10th edition of Manipur Sangai Festival, 2019 kick started on 24th November 2019 with many foreign dignitaries at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre (BOAT), Palce Compund, Imphal East, Manipur, India. Its cultural event saw participation by artists from across the state of Manipur and the country as well as foreign countries namely Thailand, Bangladesh and Japan. In addition to this, many other countries took part in exhibiting their products for sale and display during the festival which is organised to boost tourism in this lush green , beautiful unexplored land in the North Eastern part of India sharing its border with Myanmar and the only way to connect India to South East Asia.
It's for the first time that Japan took part in the cultural event of the Manipur Sangai Festival. A cultural team of 20 people came all the way from Japan to Manipur to take part in the festival which had been celebrated from 24th November to 2nd December 2019. The team led by Mr. Tokio Hasegawa included drummers, Japanese paper making artist, graphic designer, journalist, priest, few family members, etc.
Mr. Hasegawa, director, Mithila Museum, Oike, Tokamachi, Niigata is a well known personality and an internationally acclaimed artist. He is a singer, composer and orchestrator.
The team of drummers called “koyu” include Mr. Daichi Goto, Mr. Kazuma Tanigawa, Mr. Kosuke Egashira, Ms. Suzuka Yoshino, Mr. Ryota Yasuda, and Mr. Hiro Matsumura.
Ms. Hitomi Nishimura is a well known Japanese journalist who has various publications on homeless Japanese to her credit. She has special interest in shamanism, collection of folk tales from different places and care for elderly people. She has already visited various places of India including Sikkim and Meghalaya. This visit to Manipur is first time for her. It was unfortunate that one of her luggage was misplaced in the airport though luckily it was received two days later.
Mr. Tetsuya Takizawa is a great artist who is famed for making Japanese traditional paper Izugahara “ Washi “ (wa means Japanese and shi means paper). Izugahara paper is a generic term for the paper which was widely produced around Izugahara are of Nishiaizu, Fukushima Prefecture.
For a long time, Izugahara paper was used as purveying papers for the Aizu clan. Paper production ended in the Izugahara region around 1970. In recent years a renewal project to revitalize paper making has been carried out several times, and around 2017, young people from Nishiaizu and artists like Mr. Takizawa have taken over the project and restored it.
Mr. Satoru Nihei is a highly talented graphics designer who has lived and worked as an artist for more than 20 years in the United States before working as a freelance in Japan at the moment. Educated at Cranbrook Academy of Art, Michigan, Mr. Nihei has various exhibitions, workshops and recognitions to his credit. His work has been included in several national and international collections and exhibitions such as Graphic Matters, Breda, the Ntherlands (2017), Jazz in the Ruins, Gliwice, Poland (2018), Shenzhen International Poster Festival, Shenzhen, China (2018) to name a few.
Mr. Munna Hasegawa, son of Mr. Hasegawa, is another great artist. He is actively involved in arranging various cultural events in and outside Japan. His dedication and sincerity to his work is highly appreciated.
Just recently, a team of artists and officials including few others numbering 24 in total went to Japan to show cultural performances at various events that took place in various cities such as Tokyo, Karia, Niigata, Kyoto, Tsuruga and Osaka.
As a part of cultural exchange programme, the Japanese team  had cordially accepted the invitation from Art n Culture Department, Government of Manipur. During the communication, he informed Mr. Dharmadas Sharma, Deputy Director, Art n Culture Department about the visa issues as Manipur was found to be blacklisted by the Indian Embassy in Tokyo. So the department had to send additional documents to Japan till last moment for smooth deliverance of required visa and this was not so easy due to long distance and also limited time. The news of visa issuance came only few days ahead of actual travel by the team from Narita airport to Delhi.
The team arrived Manipur by Air India flight on 25th afternoon. Due to some misplacement of luggage of one of the team members, the team came out from the airport at around 4.30 pm, few hours after the scheduled time. The very same evening, the musicians who were mainly drummers gave an awe-inspiring performance at the packed auditorium of BOAT. Though they were asked to take rest and perform the next day as they had just arrived Manipur, the team was ready to perform saying Japan is 24 hours active. What a spirit!!!
It is not an exaggeration to say that the impressive sounds of the different Japanese traditional musical instruments including the high pitched shimedaiko (daiko is drum in Japanese), low pitched miyadoudaiko, light weight okedoudaiko, the bamboo flute shinobue, chappa (cymbal like instrument) and atarigane (the instrument played with a stick with a deer horn on top) took the audience to another world.
The team took some rest on 26th. In the afternoon, they strolled around the nearby market area, including the “ima keithel’ ( Mother’s Market, in Manipuri ) and did some shopping of local products.
On 27th, I joined the team for a sight seeing trip to Sendra and Loktak Lake of Bishenpur District, which is around 48 km from Imphal city. On the way, we first stopped at Maibam Lotpa Ching (Red Hill in English), Nambol where there are Japanese War Memorial and Imphal Peace Museum. Maibam Lotpa Ching is an important historical place where the British and the Japanese soldiers fought during the fierce Battle of Imphal during World War II. More than 70000 Japanese soldiers laid down their lives, fighting in support of Indian National Army (INA) of freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose against the British.
Tumblr media

We prayed  for the departed souls of Japanese soldiers who lost their lives during War on the soils of Manipur.  Mr. and Mrs. Nagara of Kuonji Temple, Gunma Ken, Japan also were in the team. They specially came to offer prayers at this place for those brave soldiers who died during the war.

The drummers performed in front of the war memorial as an offering. Everybody was quite in awe on their energy and untiring spirit.

The wonderful “Koyu” team on Daikos at Maibam Lotpa Ching on 27th
The only female drummer among the group, Ms. Suzuka Yoshino played the drum as nicely and as energetic as the other male artists.
The best part of this was they were all school going children. At such tender age, they gave such a powerful performance. What a talent it was!!!
The War Memorial at Maibam Lotpa Ching was  built in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of Battle of Imphal.
Imphal Peace Museum is a war museum on the memories of Battle of Imphal. It was inaugurated only in June this year to mark 75th anniversary of Battle of Imphal.

We reached Sendra Resort at around 1.30 pm where we took lunch. We enjoyed yummy Chinese lunch at Classic Hotel. Everyone enjoyed the scenic Loktak Lake which is the largest fresh water lake in the North East Indian region.

At Sendra, after lunch on 27th
On the way back, we stopped by at Indian National Army (INA) museum at Moirang in Bishenpur. This is another important historical site where Subhas Bose’s INA flag was unfurled on 14th April, 1944. Special thanks to Mrs. Mrinashree, Assistant Curator, INA, Art n Culture Department who made special arrangement for the team to see the memorial complex despite being late. Though the official timing of the memorial was till 4pm only, it was already 4pm while we were at Sendra and it took another 10-15 minutes to reach the memorial.
November 28th was devoted for rehearsal for a special collaborative work between Japan and Manipur. I and my husband took Mr. Hasegawa to TOM TV office, Uripok, Imphal West for a special interview to be broadcasted in the local cable network.
Department of Art n Culture, Government of Manipur had arranged a luncheon on 29th November at Government Dance College. Pre lunch, there was a simple programme whereby our Japanese guests were felicitated with handloom made traditional Manipuri shawl by  Mr. G. Dharmadas Sharma who is also in charge as Principal of the College as our honourable Culture Minister was not in town and also Director Mr. Aribam Shivadas Sharma whose father died just the previous day could not be present. We took the opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr. Om Prakash Ray who had come from Delhi to be with the Japanese team as he happens to be a close friend of Mr. Hasegawa. Thanks to Svetlana Yumnam who provided homely stay to Mr. Ray and for taking good care of him during his Imphal visit.
Lunch was served traditionally in plantain leaves. Local cuisines including chagempomba (a dish made using natto, Japanese word for hawaizaar, fermented soyabeans), maroi thongba (neera leaves curry), chaakhao (locally grown aromatic Manipuri black rice), etc were specially prepared for our special guests. Though most food items were a bit hot and spicy, I believe our guests must have felt the flavor and taste of Manipur.
When the daikos and chappa from the land of rising sun are played together with the Langden of the jeweled land, there simply is an electrifying effect and everybody was left spellbound. That’s what happened in the evening of 29th November 2019 at BOAT.
In the evening of 29th, the much awaited artistic collaboration of the two art forms of Japan and Manipur started with the thundering beats of Japanese and Manipuri percussion which the 2000 plus audience at BOAT welcomed with loud nonstop cheers. The Director, Tourism Department was so overwhelmed that without any prior preparation and plan, he came forward on stage to felicitate the talented performers of both Japan and Manipur with Manipuri traditional stole. Then it was followed by the soothing music and magical voice from Mr.Hasegawa playing rubab (a musical instrument) along with the mesmerizing voice from Mrs. Angella Yengkhom. This was accompanied by Guru Gurumayum Loken Sharma on pung (Manipuri drum), oja Brajakumar Laishram on flute, Mr. Munna Hasegawa on synthesizer, and supporting vocal from Mrs. Hasegawa. On the right front of the stage was Mr. Takizawa making the traditional Japanese washi paper, his hammering went well in sync with the ongoing music. The beautiful footsteps in typical Manipuri martial art form executed by oja Sapam Inaobi were another parts of the fusion work. The creative work was composed by Mr. Hasegawa himself on the basis of his original composition, Stone Music. Special thanks to Rhythm of Manipur whose artists presented their nice musical performance in collaboration with the Japanese drummers in the beginning. The young students of oja Inaobi also need special mention as they showed their talent. One of the boys even performed with Mr. Hasegawa in well coordinated martial art movements. The whole collaborative composition took shape in few days time, only after the Japanese team reached Imphal on 25th though the idea of collaboration was conceptualized by team of Government Dance College and Mr.Hasegawa while the former was in Tsuruga city, Fukui Ken, Japan for cultural performance in October 2019.
Tumblr media
A Group photograph just after the collaborative work at BOAT on 29th
Mr. Takizawa who is from Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture and Mr. Nihei who is from Fukushima Prefecture, Japan exhibited their work in the exhibition section. Due to some communication gap, their booth could not be allocated on the first few days of the Festival. The booth could be opened only on 28th. The paper making art and various graphics designs were displayed attracting many visitors. It is interesting to note that Mr. Takizawa used a lump of red soil from Maibam Lotpa Ching in making the paper as a tribute to the departed souls of the Japanese soldiers. In the morning of 28th, the Japanese team went to Imphal barrage in Samurou where Mr. Takizawa made the traditional paper in the river water where the ashes of those Japanese soldiers were immersed during the war period. Such was his immense sense of dedication towards their forefathers who sacrificed their lives during the war.
The team was about to leave Imphal on 30th November. On that day, my husband took Mr. Hasegawa san to the residence of Art n Culture Director, Mr. A. Shivadas Sharma for a brief informal interaction. On the other hand, the rest of the team members were invited by Mrs. Laishram Shantibala Devi, wife of our honorable Minister, Culture, Government of Manipur to her farm house in Sangaiporou. She offered fried rice to them so that they do not go empty stomach. During this time, I got ready with some local products namely the CCT Tea and Meira’s Amla Candy as gifts for each of the team members as a humble gesture of friendship. Due to lack of time in the airport, I couldn’t hand over the gifts to each one of them, rather I requested Mr. Hasegawa to distribute them later. I could take some last minute photographs with few of the team members namely Mrs. Ruka, Ms. Hitomi, Hasegawa san and family, Mr. Takizawa, Mr. Takashi , and my Manipuri friend Svetlana. Others had gone inside the airport from security check.
Special thanks to Mr. Mutum Bikash, Mr. Somorjit Laiphrakpam and other students and staff of Government Dance College, Manipur for their time devoted for volunteering and coordinating during the whole journey of the Japanese team in Manipur.
My heartfelt thanks to Asuka Yatsuda san for the clear information regarding the young talented drummers from Japan.

The moment of separation is always bitter. Though we have to bid farewell, the memories will be fondly cherished. It is unfortunate to know that their Air India flight from Delhi to Narita was 24 hours delayed. Please forgive for any kind of misunderstanding and inconvenience caused to you during your short stay in Imphal and your travel to India. Matungda amuk unnakhisi. Mata aimasyou.

I have been eagerly waiting for this for quite a bit of time but it’s finally here!
The 10th Anniversary Orchestrated Vinyl Collection of the music of Supergiant Games! Featuring tracks from Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, and Hades! And might I say all these tracks are simply stunning to listen to as always but even more so by a full orchestra 😩
Goodness Gracious, all pressed onto a gorgeous red vinyl record 🥰
Also including a look at the cover and the track list booklet!

Big Props to @kissingagrumpygiant for this LOVELY comm of my Orc OC Arizona Tiger-Eye! Lunch is om at the restaurant!
I don’t really talk about her much here but I figure to at least give her a quick run down on her character!
Essentially she runs a restaurant called the Hungry Stripes or just the Stripes as it’s shortened too and mainly cooks and helps out taking and delivering orders! She miiightt also have Were-Tiger powers haha
