Drowning out the small speech from the other hero, Danny peers out the Watchtower windows to see the stars.

Meeting his favorite heroes had been fun. But it had quickly turned boring. They all referred to him by titles and spoke to him as if he was something other. And he is something other, mind you! But he's also so very not.

Seeing Superman begin to move again, he zones back into conversation as the man guides him.

"And this, King Phantom, is the meeting area." He gestures to the seating arrangement and screens. Danny simply nods, sweeping his gaze over the room once before looking back at him.

"Any questi-" Before Superman can finish his sentence, a tan blur intercepts him, jutting into the conversation. The swishing of the material dies down to show John Constantine in his ruffled trenchcoat, pointing at Danny with the expression of the cat that caught the canary.

Neither of them say anything, staring each other down as Superman looks back and forth between them. Constantine's got a smirk on his face, whilst Phantom's eyes are wide as he avoids eye contact.

"Is something the matter?" Superman voices, taking a step in between the two. He has half the mind to tell John off about the way he's acting towards the royal, but instead shoots him an unimpressed look.

"No, I just-" Danny sighs as he stops floating, his feet touching the ground as he reaches to scratch at the back of his neck, "- I might technically be grounded right now."

Superman turns a confused gaze towards Danny as John lets out a tutting sound.

"Oh, that's not all big blue. He tell you about all the missin' work?" John says, crossing his arms in a way reminiscent of a disgruntled parent. Superman finds his gaze hopping back and forth between the two again, confused.

"Oh shut it pops! I've still got a week's extension!"

Superman blinks as the conversation suddenly carries itself, the two bickering back and forth over... schoolwork? projects? groundings?

Phantom screws up his face like an angry teen before suddenly disappearing without a sound.

John turns to him then, still sporting his original expression. "Don't worry about him. Told 'em he can come back once he finishes his literature project." And with that, he turns and walks away.

Superman blinks at the spots the two had been in before turning and glancing around the room. He was supposed to be giving Phantom a tour... but now he can't help but feel the need to check in on his own protege's grades.

Welp. It's not like he has anything better to do now.

i will always advocate for skipping classes btw. to all the high schoolers following me: don't sweat having a perfect attendance record it quite literally does not matter. if anyone tells you good attendance is important for being considered for scholarships they're lying to you. my attendance was fucking abysmal and i was offered several full-ride scholarships because my grades were still solid and that's all 90% of colleges care about.

and besides. taking care of yourself - whether you need a mental health break or you're tired or you just frankly don't want to go to that fucking class - should always take priority! now don't take a page from my book and skip a month and a half's worth of pe classes because you ditched One Time because the coach said he was going to make everyone run a mile that day and then he kept trying to get you to "make up" the mile that you missed so you kinda just stopped showing up until he gave up on you forever like please know that you should go to class regularly BUT.

i think taking time off and leaving early and such needs to be normalized. for school and work. i don't think it's fair to punish people for needing breaks. the human brain is literally not made to sit in the same stifling environments for 8 hours almost every day and just focus on "working" or "studying" and "learning." it's very cruel to deprive young, still developing minds especially of proper breaks and time to Play (not that it's not cruel to do the same to adults)

if the system won't give them to you freely though... well. break the rules a little. you know your limits better than anyone. don't try to work to an impossible standard. rest when you need to!! it's very, very easy to burn yourself out, but it's very, very, very, very difficult to recover from it

#i believe all teachers should have flexible due dates on their assignments and should accept late work without penalty #like. i can't fathom the purpose of strict due dates and no late work policies. the only Real deadline is when grades have to be submitted #maybe a week or a week and a half before that hard deadline can be the last call for turning in missing work #because obviously if 15 students turn in All of their missing assignments the day before their teacher has to finalize grades like #that's not going to end well for anybody. but outside of That #there's no fucking point in no late work policies. some hs teachers are idiots man like your kids have 6-8 other classes yknow. #and a life outside of school. jobs. sports. clubs. friends. time for themselves so they can unwind and recharge #do you want them to rush through your assignments and get everything wrong? or copy all the answers off of google? #or do you want them to learn what you're teaching them? if you want your kids to learn you have to be flexible and open #i believe there should always be an alternative to taking tests. they work for some students but not everybody #if you cater to only one style of learning and only 1/8th of your class learns and retains the material like. #that's not the kids' fault. it's not their failure. it's Your failure for not being an actual fucking teacher #ugh. can you tell i'm extremely passionate about this Lol #sometimes when i tell people i want to be a teacher they're like are you sure...? #and then at some point we might have a conversation about the education system and i'll go on a tirade and they're like i understand now. #starts punching walls and stuff

just realized I missed reading a textbook chapter...after taking the test 😭

#the teacher said it didn't matter what edition of the text book #just the chapter names so it's all out of whack when im reading the syllabus / blackboard assignment for the week #anddddd in the syllabus it has chapter numbers and i thought (stupidly) that it was for the up to date of the edition recommended during #registration soooo i trusted it #crammed 80 pages in less than 12 hrs only to take the test and get hit with (thankfully) only 2 questions that i had no idea about #thinking it was something i missed by not watching the optional lectures of the chapters or powerpoints #until i reread the weeks assignment chapters & compared to the syllabus numbered chapters then to my book 😭😭😭 #'chapter 14' that was listed in the syllabus is actually chapter 15 in my book 🫠 #on top of that i didnt end up reading an extra chapter...so that would've added another 32 pages to the 80 💀 #overall it was my fault for not double checking 🥴 i almost did it again for this weeks reading before double checking the titles #i missed 7 questions 😭 its out of 50 but still!!! i hate them and theres still 5 tests left that i can only miss another 117 points from #so far the total is 9 after adding in last weeks missed points #make that 115 left 😶 #and if i fail to keep a 75% average from the tests + whatever other assignments in the next 5 weeks i basically wasted $780

It’s like, I want to learn, but when there’s a short time limit or a deadline my brain automatically goes “nope. not doing it. it’s too much” until maybe five minutes before. And when there’s a long deadline or other time limit my brain just goes “ughh not now” forever until the inevitable time limit/deadline does come and then it’s “oh my goddd why didn’t you do this you pigeon shit” and honestly I’m just tired of existing in this particular consciousness can someone please factory reset my brain
