I will love you if I never see you again, Just as I loved you when I saw you every moment.
I will love you when your face is muddled by memory,
And all I can recall is the sound of your laugh.
I will love you if we make new memories,
And I once again hear my favorite song
As listen to the thump thump of your heart.
I will love you if you marry someone else,
And support you always from afar.
I will love you if you one day marry me, and that tattoo on your hand can again
mean more than a scar.
I will love you wherever you go,
No matter how far.
Because you are as intimately a part of me
As the air that I breathe.
And if one day I am to see you And you've built a whole new life:
Kids of your own,
Books you've written, And a beautiful wife.
I will smile at you and nod,
Because I will know
That our love was the foundation
We both stand on
And no amount of time or space
Could possibly erase
The home I have carved out for you
In my heart.
And though "I love you,
Became, "I have to leave now,"
It was only because I knew
That we wouldn't become
Who we were meant to if we stayed together
But I promise, through it all I because i'll know that I will love you forever.
